Which of these would make the better upgrade to my standard Raven for highsec level 4 missioning? Both ships are available at roughly the same price on contract (500 mill) and have broadly similar stats. Sadly a Golem, skills wise, is too far away for me to consider right now.
The Rattlesnake seems to edge it for me on the basis that I can make good use out of the extra low slot, better shields and possibility of fitting two heavy hybrids.
Would you agree or does the extra launcher and sensor strength of the CNR swing it (most of my offensive skills are in missiles)?

If you have any gunnery sills, use the rattler, will give more dps. For missiles only, a CNR. Rattlesnake can fit an extra BCU or PDU so in practice the differences are small.
Rattlesnake is much sexier, btw. |

Neither, buy a LG crystal set(or save for a HG set).
That will help you far more than getting either of those ships. |

I say do both and fit a targetpainter to maximise your dps ;) |

I would reccomend CNR for hi sec missions if you do them for isk. If you just want to pass some time in relaxed manner while also getting some isk then Rattle (as it is a lot better looking ship and not that far behind isk/h wise). |

Not very many people fit rails to a rattlesnake.
most set it up as a raven with more hitpoints and an extra low slot.
you can fit 2 lg rails and 6 cruise launchers but with no dmg/tracking mods the guns dont help much.
so imo the rattlesnake should have its rail dmg bouns changed to a more usefull bouns.
i do own a rattlesnake btw

While i do agree it needs a more useful bonus (shield hp? resist? mwd cap use ) the rails will do a good job at killing BS'es at range. Will have to hceck EFT but i'd say they add 50 - 75dps or so?
Yes i know i spelled COAD wrong. Stop mailing me about it

Not really seeing the point.
You can get a CNR for 450-500, the lowest I saw a rattlesnake was 780.
A rattlesnake's tank is a little better, but level 4's aren't that hard to tank in a CNR anyway.
A CNR can still fit 3 BCU's without hurting it's tank, and playing around with EFT quick, I couldn't fit more than 3 BCU's on a rattlesnake with an XL booster without using faction mods (along with not being able to fit anything in the two spare highs).
So a CNR ends up doing better damage, and is cheaper, at the cost of a slightly worse tank. Just not seeing how the Rattlesnake can be considered better.
You do get points for style tho picking the rattlesnake over the CNR, but beyond that... ><

just cuz tri has a crystal implant cartel going, market s
i say (from my experiences) a t2 tank is good enough, start on the cnr damage tank, and once you get back up to 500milish then get a crystal set so you can drop more tank to fit stuff like pwnage painters or more bcus

A CNR can already fit 3 BCU's in low, and could probably add a 4th if really needed. I don't see it being worth it though, by the 4th mod the stacking penalty is so bad it'll hardly do anything.
The only way I could see a crystal set improving on dps is if you can drop the XL booster for a L booster so you can fit T2 launchers. Not sure if the bonus from a HG crystal is enough to use a L booster though.

I don't know much about these big missiile boats and even less about shield tanking. But the Rattlesnake has that torp speed bonus. Doesn't that make it a better mission runner? |

a large booster II with t1 boost amp and 4x named hardeners is enough. (lows 3x pds 2x bcu)
with a crystal set it goes from managing aggro quite carefully to i will shoot the spawn trigger now just so the other stuff gets closer faster. aka flys like a perma boost raven

raven has the same bonus (although the ravens only equals the rattlesnake at bs5)
both get 6 launchers, although the rattlesnake also gets a 5% to hybrids from the gallente bs skill.
