Edited by: Novamute on 20/04/2004 16:16:54 Hi. Have you ever taken a second look at your character and wanted a slight makeover? My idea is to allow this on a controlled basis (i.e. with rules for it). Here are my ideas:
1. Allow for head-tilt, facial expression and overall camera position to change by 10% 2. Allow for lighting change 3. Allow for background change 4. Allow for clothing change
Proposed Rules: -> Allowed to change once per year -> There is a fee for this change -> Must go to a specific station(s) for this change
My key point is the face has to be the same, but it can be altered slightly. After all, IRL you're allowed to update your drivers licence every no and then, right?
Yes yes I know there may be issues with the fact that portraits are cached so there could be some complications with this. And yes there are *plenty* of bugs out there that need to be fixed at first...
But I'd like to make some *huge* assumtions: 1. One day the bugs will be worked out with this game 2. New patches will be released 3. The cache issue can somehow be worked out 4. Hell freezes over
Anyway humor me hehe, assuming all of that, what do you think of my idea? o_O Novamute |

How about letting folks change race once also. Few folks I know dearly want to change race to roleplay via their chosen corp now, but are stymied by having chosen the *wrong race* at startup when it meant nothing to them.

Hm, the same jewelry, dress and hairstyle for a year or so gets boring...
If you want to change race, it's better to start over I think. CCP could consider reincarnation (they have this in eg. BatMUD, about the only way to change your profession, and race). This would mean that if you trash your character, some of your existing skill points can be eventually reallocated on the new character.

Good idea Novamute, could be called Plastic Surgery seeing there would be a fee and you would have to go to a specific station with the facility.

Charge people to edit their character? No.. Only allow character editing once per year? No..
We should be able to edit our chars any time we feel like it.
Allow all editing except for the shape of the face. Let us change hair, facial hair.. But do not allow changes to tattooÆs or eye color. And maybe figure out a way of changing the facial expression w/o changing the face.
When I created my character, I had long hair. Now I have short hair. My character needs a hair cut too. My characters facial hair is just all wrong for the face shape. Didn't notice most of these discrepancies tell after I purchased a new monitor for this computer.
The problems with portrait caching are small..
1) Fix it to where, when you do a Show Info on another player. The portrait area is blank w/ an exclamation mark.. So it doesn't generate a players portrait PERIOD!
2) On the area where the portrait goes, add a rightclick popup option "UPDATE PORTRAIT".. Then any time someone selects to update portrait it REGENERATES their portrait. No matter if it's been generated once or not.
This fixes two problems.. It fixes the problem with doing a Show Info on a player and ALWAYS having to generate their portrait.. And it also allows the user to refresh a players portrait to see any changes they have made. And because it's not generating these image every time you Show Info on a new player. The net traffic would be the same as now, if not improved.
I still think this would be the next best thing since clones. I'm sure it will have it's protestors. But hell.. People protest insurance, battleships, highways, mining, pirateering, warp drive.. You name it..

Imo it would be nice if we could alter our chars ONCE.
Like once in a lifetime... Would be stupid beeing allowed to change race and gender and appearence all the time. Just would not feel right to me.
But beeing able to change your appearence (and just that) once would be nice. Just look at my char...

Price in ISK would be acceptable. Real money would not..
But the editting area would probably be pre login on the character selection screen. They just need to add the edit character button there.

Doctors to do the changes,,,it should cost and they shouldn't be many around ..waiting list then lying in the hospital for 2-3h or something...could bee nice.
By the way I think their are bigger issues to fix before this but it's a funny idea.

I agree, the changes should be done when you are cloned. It should ask you if you want to change stuff, and if so, have price ranges. This would be only available on high quality clones from high quality cloning facilities. The changes can only be done a little at a time, and should only allow changes in eye and hair color, positioning, lighting, and clothes/decorations but not tattoos or piercings..... wait, nevermind on the tattoos and piercings, since I read the cloning thing and everyone starts from basically a dummy blank and the clone guys put everything on. --------------------------------------------------

Why not remove tattos and piercings? Your clone wouldn't have any tattos and piercings anyway. And even now (in RL) it's possible to surgically remove tattos.
So yes.. add 'plastic surgery' options.. change sex (become a transvestite!), gender, face, hair.. everything. For lets say 1mil isk.. and you can only do that once a month, when your scars from last surgery heal.
Of course they could make further restrictions.. if you are Amarr and want to become caldari.. you'd have to go to caldari plastic surgery.. but you'd need 5.0+ standing towards caldari state to do that.

It looks like this idea is taking off, a bit. Very cool.
I disagree with the idea of only having this option availble when you get a new clone, tho. My main idea is that this is sort of like your driver's license. Every once in a while you are allowed to update it - at a cost - without having to die first, lol.
This idea sounds very fair to me. I realize that there are many new changes coming to the game but *if* this is considered fairly easy to implement, I think it would be VERY well received by all the players as long as it still looks like your basic character, but with slight changes (that's where I was getting the 10% movement, etc idea).
I don't know how to ask CCP to consider this idea, does anyone else?
