ive herd alot of ppl say that there is a new nano nerf comming soon, and i was wandering if it will hit minmitar hard or as a few ppl say " all it will do is stop nano bs"
i recently wanted to crosstrain to minmitar, but am thinking about staying gallente because if the nano nerf come in and hits minmitar hard i can garantee (knowing my luck) it will come in like 5 days before i get vaga/rapier (which are the main ships in minmitar that i want to fly)
ive alos herd that minmitar arnt the best race for tank and/or gang, they are all about the versitilty (hence the high sp needed) and i know that minmitar ships are naturally faster than the other race counterparts.
so how do ppl think the new nano nerf will affect minmitar - adn what do ppl think - should i stay gellente (so im not really affected by nano nerf) or train minmitar as planeed and bite the bullet if it hits hard...

What upcoming nano nerf?
Sure, CCP has said that they're thinking about stack-nerfing the various speed enhancing modules against each other as a group. But:
- This is not confirmed to happen yet - If it'll happen, there's no date yet - It would only really hurt ships that need 4+ speed mods to achieve any kind of velocity
And to be honest, I don't think it's a good solution at all. it feels heavy-handed and doesn't mesh well with the rest of the game mechanics.

true but it wont be as good as it once was.... at the end of the day i think im going to stay gellente, and train for the ishtar and arazu, both good allthough id prefer rapier over arazu just because every 1 is nano atm, but you cant have everything... not that im worried i constantly see NERF this and NERf that threads ppl complain about every1 nano'd, y dont the be smart adn fit bs' neuts to there bs and get a rapier/huguinn/curse in gang :)
on the note of staying gellente, what do people think of the Taranis and ares, yes i know 1 is for tackling and 1 is for anti inty but who actually used ares over taranis?

yes it hasnt been confirmed yet, but i guarnatee it will come, personally i agree with you, i dont think another nano nerf is a good idea, nano in itself is like every other "tank" whether it be armor , sheild, ECM " some ppl consider ecm to be a buffer like tank"
no 1 likes a nerf, ecm pilots hate ewar nerfs, same with ppl who fly nano, i mean when has ccp nerfed armo or shield tanking? - i dont think they have (i only bin playin eve for a year thos - so i might be wrong) so y nerf nano?
imo nano has had its nerf, it dont need another 1, all it needs is ppl 2 be smart, fit bs neuts adn geta rapier/curse/huggin in gang

There was some talking about more stacking-penalties for Overdrives, Nanofibers, Polycarbon Rigs and Aux Thruster Rigs.
Stacking penalty is only a bad thing if you're using more then 3 Mods with the current stacking-formula. 1. Mod gives 100%, 2. Mod gives 87%, 3. Mod gives 57%.
A Vagabond with 2x Overdrive and 1x Nanofiber reaches 5km/sec with those 3 Mods atm, after we apply the stacking it maybe down to 4km/sec.
So the Vagabond will be still very fast for a cruiser but all other HACs, which need to fit way more then those 3 Mods to speed-tank wont be able any more to do so, because they'll have some kind of limit to the max-speed due to the stacking-penalties.
Not that bad tbh, but not beeing able to counter the blobs will result in less pewpew. .

Edited by: Ambien Torca on 14/04/2008 09:53:21 If they introduce stacking penalty for all speed mods (no matter which types) vagabond will still go 5k+ and can actually fit couple damage mods too. If anything people are fitting too much speed these days so it might actually make these ships more dangerous. Not against this myself, though there should be other ways to go about this to encourage other type of gangs too. Everything seems to be nano with few RR gangs thrown in for good measure. Nothing else seems too viable unfortunately (then again with EVEs mechanics how many different types of gangs could work anyway?].
Speaking of skirmish warfare, in real world it means you strike where your enemy is not ready and concentrated. Not that you have so fast units that you can go fight such group face to face and completely annihilate them. For some reason people seem to have misconception about it. You are not meant to be able to fight the blob but pick off people who donŠt happen to be in the blob instead.

It's annoying that the ares reqires a sensor booster with range script to make the most out of it, but my ares can warp disrupt at 42km... which can be more useful than you think.
Rubbish ramage though - the ares is a pure tackler, you can't really solo in it like you can a taranis or a crow. -- Ralara / Ralarina

yea, imo crow is for noob inty pilots (puts flame suit on) the reason i say this is because ppl just want 2 press the "i win" button adn the crow somes it up imo, perma run mwd, shoot and scram, done! (im not whining! - read below :) ) imo oppinion pl that fly ranis's and claws and malidictions, there the real uber inty pilots :p
but saying that it does it well and i might go gets me a crow with 28km scram

I am really not very fond of the nano, but inties are not what needs to be nerfed. Inties are what is supposed to speedtank. What needs a wrecking hit with the nerfbat is cruiser sized ships. Including the Vaga. The best solution I can come up with off the top of my head is nerfing 10mn MWDs by giving them an agility penalty on top of the weight penalty. So those Brutixes could still burn towards someone and webblaster them to bits, but a Vagabond would have a very hard time flying anything but a straight line at those ridiculous speeds, and accel just might suffer enough to prevent them from burning back to the gate every time.

Lasts 23 minutes solid, with everything (sans guns) running. Get a claymore with skirmish links in your gang and it just gets really fun. After you've flown this thing once, you'll never go back to using non-faction gear.
Replace Lows with Republic fleet and MWD with A-Type for mega-fun. This thing is a lot of fun to fly, you'll almost never lose it, but when/if you do it won't cause you to smash your face through your monitor like a A-Type/RFOD fit will.

A vaga only needs 2 speed rigs and 1 speed mod anyway, so stacking (if they introduce it) shouldn't matter.

Well if they nano nerf which is Minmatar main advandage the speed will indeed hit them hard. Minmatar are already very skill intensive and one of the hardest races to play.
Everyone slow down excuse is not right, what matters is if you are slow down enouph not to be able to tank with speed then Minmatars are going to have real issues. |

The live dev-blog talked a whole lot about changing local then anything else. Nerfing nano talk was relegated to one question towards the end. People nano b/c incursions result in fleets w/ capitals being dropped on their head. i.e. - the blob. Nano ships are a symptom of another problem. I'd expect the devs to "fix" local and give some variety to the choice in tactics available before they take a nerf bat to another game mechanic. Just my $.02

Indeed. I've been living in low sec for almost 2 months now and I've not lost a ship to a gatecamp, and I'm flying a 1600mm thorax. I've always been able to burn back to the gate.

Well, provided you use all the lows for speed mods, you can get a Vagabond to near 6 km/s (5.8, I think) without rigs or faction gear or implants or anything other than just a plain tech 2 speed fit, as it is. I doubt it will ever be impossible to get a Vagabond to 6 km/s when you consider all the other stuff you can add on for speed.
And it's not like 6 km/s is particualrly fast in the first place. |

One of the reasons nano-cruisers are so annoying is that only a few of them sacrifice their tank to reach those speeds. Because they have a 8k shield buffer tank to stop the few things that can still do them some damage.
I say replace the sig radius penalty on shield extenders by a speed penalty, and suddenly vaggabonds are a lot more manageable... |

Vagabonds aren't even a problem though. I've never been killed by one by itself. If anything, they just have a better chance of running away. And that's all Vagas ever do... run away.

As others have stated before, the vagabond is MEANT to go fast, as it does nothing else, but runs. Nano ships with no tracking issues (drone and missile boats mainly) need nerf, but the vagabond is essentially an overgrown tackler, nothing else.
It can't solo a battleship like a curse can, and yet I don't see ppl complaining about how overpowered the curse is (it is, and so is the pilgrim).
So what if vagas run fast? Nothing. |
