Edited by: Xue XinMao on 14/04/2008 13:08:31 This is hardly a sense of emergency or anything, Its been discusssed before I am sure; though the thread i found about it was locked due to trolling, so i am making a new one.
Will it be possible for CCP to make an Automated Delete of charahters that have never been in a corp and never sued for such amount of time (1-2years).
There are some really good names out there taken but not used. Rambo for isntance
Maybe set it to delete any charachter less than 1mil sp only, since you get nearly as much if you created a new charachter now.

Not sure why ur so sad with you replies. I think the op is right in a way, if the name doesnt get used for so long, so what.
Its a suggestion obviously not aimed at you, since lets face it, you ahve no say, nor do i.

What if, eris forbid, you get cancer and have to take a year out of game. How would you like to come back and be known as GallenteCitizen35193581398? Or you just take a vacation?
What constitutes a "good name"? Something which someone else has thought of, apparently. How hard is it for someone to come up with their own unique name? So yeah, I think it's a stupid idea to work in some mechanic to clean out old players' names when they could possibly come back and suddenly be without their identity.
And I have a say as much as the OP, and you.

I don't agree... I haven't played for a couple of years myself, but do intend to take it up again (need a new pc first) I would've been very unhappy to find my character and all items deleted because "they needed the name" ... leave it as it is I say... (I started about a month after the official release of the game and already had issues getting the name I actually wanted so I also believe it won't solve anything either) |

What makes you unique in New Eden is the FACT that your name is yours - unlike RL. Personally I rather see taken names as taken until the owner him-/herself reprocesses the character.

Take a look at Burrito's post to this thread. Sure people can add characters to the name, but didn't you just invalidate this entire 'issue' then?

Unfortunetly you need to reactivate account for that, and what idiot will pay 1 month sub to delete a char , I am sure you have seen idiots in your time, but aths just pushing your luck.

So perhaps there should be an option to DELETE the account... perhaps you get a premium for it... dunno... last months subscription refunded... if you take it, your characters will be deleted and items removed, if you don't take it they will remain on the account for guys like myself who start playing again... |

I've used a few trial accounts getting to know the game before actually subscribing (using another trial account). One has a character who's name I might want later; if and when I do, I will activate the account for one month, delete character and use it on my alt account... |

Personally, I'd much rather play with/against people called Xue XinMao than people called Rambo.
We've got a great sandbox, a vast, sprawling galaxy to inhabit. Great backstory, a huge variety of ships and weapons. But people still come into the game and think
Quote: Hur, I'll call myself Drizzt Do'Urden!
They then sit there trying "Drizt" and "Drizzzt" and "Drizzzzt" for the next hour.
I know this makes me sound like a self-obsessed roleplayer, but I'm not. I just get slightly sad when I see names that break my immersion in the game. |

If they deleted the characters who were inactive, thier names will prbably be taken by someone else before you get the name and you'd miss the boat yet again because the nature of the universe is to crap in your lap at every opportunity. |

Tisk tisk WInterblink, someone pee in your corn flakes this morning?
FOr the OP: Yes, it is COMMON for players to come back after 1-2 years of not playing. Watch the forums, you will see one every other week.
It isn't difficult to find a "unique" name, it is only difficult if you are looking at something that is popular in RL or a variation of that. Basically; don't copy something you have seen on TV or in a comic and its yours Or add a middle initial or something. |

This reminds me of the domain name registration fights.. I can see a new bussiness for this :) Make an alt to reserve the character name... put the name for sale.. if someone wants to pay isk for it, reprocess your char :P
Or is that against the eula too ?

The OP already admitted to seeing a prior thread on the subject. Pretty much anything that could be said on this issue has been said in there ad nauseum. I could have posted something long winded but the OP already knows why it's a bad idea because he's read that entire thread already, right?
Also, I'm not angry or anything. Just because I don't lace my post with smiley faces shouldn't infer negativity, and I'm not going to do so just to pander to the average EVE forum goer's propensity for reading into everything.

There is no such thing as a good name unless it's your name. If a name happens to be taken you re-invent yourself going a different direction or change the first name or surname, how hard can it be?

I came back to the game after two years and was happy to find my account still active.
If the name you want is taken, try being creative. honestly if I had it my way names like 'Rambo' would be blocked out with a little popup recommending they go play WoW.

I had a trial alt that I decided not to subscribe with, then recently decided that I wanted to reactivate that account because of the name of a character on the account that I really really wanted. But I forget pretty much all of the contact information I used to sign up with that account and couldn't access it.
I made that account years ago and to this day the character on that account are still around, pretty sad huh? An unsubscribed trial account blocking names from being used ever again. LOL But, yeah. These forums seriously need some indicator that the post has ended and the sig has started.

Quite a few people I knew from Beta came back just last year or this year. And being able to come back to "who" they were then allowed them to reconnect up with friends they had made as well. Unlike other MMO's identity is a very strong tenet in Eve. |
