I started a trial char years ago with an awsome name, despite wanting to I can't even delete him (lost password and account details, don't even know what Email addres I signed up with). Would it be so bad to auto-delete TRIAL characters that were never activated and have not logged in for over 1 year? Heck 90 days is probably reasonable. ~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless. Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application.

This is the reason I agree something like this should happen.

Many of us who have been in the game a long time know someone, either in RL who played or we only knew in game, who has died. I count myself in that number. Whatever the "fairness" of all the good names being taken is to new players Imagine seeing the "ghost" of your friends character flying around. My firend is safely ensconsed in a station in the Corp he helped found. I pleased his name will never be handed over to someone else. Also I absolutely refute your idea that the good names have all gone I have created and recycled loads of alts for various reasons in my 4 years in Eve and have never had to resort to the unimaginative "D34thKillz0r978123" type names. I will however admit that I currently have a very unimaginative "Muttz Alt" but that is by choice not out of need. .

I found a 7-letter one-word name less than two months ago. And you can pronounce it. :o
