My starting attributes weren't quite ideal either. I've just stuck with it though. According to Eve-Mon I couldn't save myself more than a few days by training up learning skills further before I started my carrier training. Once the carrier training is finished though I think I'll dedicate the next month to getting level 5 in four of the basic learning skills (screw charisma atm) and level 4 in four of the advanced skills.
