The problem with multi-monitors is:

The standard ATI drivers only have 3d hardware support for the first monitor. There is no 3d hardware support on the second monitor so it is really slow but still works.

There are the FireGL drivers that enable full 3d hardware support for both monitors but I was not able to get them working on my computer. You have to patch them so that they install with standard ATI cards. (usually they need the ATI FireGL card which is basically not very different from the standards, just a bit faster and a different version code which is checked by the software)
