Hiya i have just read this news post and i am interested in what the eve players are going to do. This new expansion might mean total faction warfare. (Cant wait)

What side are you going to choose. Caldari, Amarr, Minmatar or Gallente. I will be sticking with my race. |

Im not 100% sure as my corp is pretty diverse and we're not likely to break up just for factional warfare. Theres also been little information that ive found about how the alliances between the empires (Matari / Gallente, Caldari / Amarr) is going to be worked and how it will effect whom you can fight. I don't know if its going to be an all out brawl with those trade agreements and alliances forgotten or if they'll last.
That said Id prefer to fight for Caldari and possably Amarr, but given the merc background Civire get its easy for me to pick any one and still come through rp wise. |

Yeah i dont know how this is going to work. If we are forced into it then it will suck. and would suck if its going to make empire space 0.0 sec. This would suck for casual players who just want to mine and mission. I think it would be voluntery, if you read the article you would have to sign up to a faction (perhaps while in a corporation). So i think if you sign up you will only be able to attack the other participants (Identifiable by some sort of tag i guess) |

Besides, it's "Caldari+Amarr" vs "Gallente+Minmatar"... that's how it's always been. Caldari dominate the mid-short and very long range, Amarr dominate the mid-long range, Gallente doninate the short range while Minmatar are supposedly best at hit-and-run skirmishing. Still, since every player can fly any racial ship, it's no big deal.
The only problem is that the Caldari side is HUGELY over-represented when it comes to standings, and since I guess good standings are a major part of the factional warfare thingamajig, I can tell you already anything they do will be darned tricky to pull off if it involves PvP instead of just group PvE.

Yeah good point.
Animal is Caldari/Criminal in affiliation. If Serpentis are involved in FW then we would go that way. If not then Caldari. |

P.S. Our corp has been built around the premise that we WILL be joining factional warfare, that was one of the few "cornerstones" of our corporation. If you can read the name of our corp, you know what side we'll be picking... heh.
A lot of people only run caldari missions for isk (CNRs, CN invuls, cruise and BCS from the LP store), rather than for roleplayish things, so that should balalance it out as they will have little/no interest in faction warfare. Plus of course, same thing with all the isk farmers running caldari missions.
Personally, I am not going to bother with faction warfare, and as has been posted before in this thread, if its something you have to do then I quit (doubt CCP would screw themselves out of a lot of players by doing something like that though) Seriously, we need some kind of separation between the post and signature. |

Gallente, ofc.
On the subject, I'm dubious as to whether CCP are going to rigidly stick to the Amarr+Caldari and Gallente+Minmatar thing. I mean it's pretty obvious that Amarr will be at war with Minmatar and Caldari will be at war with Gallente, but I doubt it'll be a four-way mash up. I'm going to predict that Gallente+Amarr and Caldari+Minmatar are going to remain neutral, political and role-play posturing aside. ------

Edited by: Lord Rue on 22/04/2008 19:23:03 I will be flying for the Federation Navy against the Caldari rebel scum without question, assuming this is implemented well enough that we don't have to mess up our current corp/alliances to be involved.
At the risk of being flamed into a cinder for mentioning the WoW-Word, I sense a Horde-Alliance situation where the Caldari have by far the most players, but the worst PVP-capable ones where the Gallente have better motivated and PVP-oriented players out of an overall much smaller population.
Some Caldari vets will likely take exception to this, but any other comments on this thought?

My corporation will remain neutral, as manufactured wars only benefit the privileged few.
The blood will be blood of patriots and fools, not the warmongers sitting in their stations counting their Isk while supplying the front lines.
We Amarr are embroiled in a search for a new Emperor, so who will unite the Amarr so that we strike with one mighty fist?
This talk of war is for schoolboys and old men blinded by the scent of glory that will surely be obliterated by the stench of burnt flesh and death.

I'm Gallente and I'm going to fight for the Gallente if necessary to defend the Federation.
I'm assuming we'll be allied with the Minmatar and the Caldari will be allied with the Amarr(?). The Gallente and Minmatar have always been allies and while I don't know if the Caldari and Amarr exactly like each other, I'm sure they'd be willing to ally to fight against their mutual enemies.
I'm looking forward to races actually meaning something besides your portrait and what type of ships you start off being able to fly.

Aristotle Enterprises will, assuming we have no other commitments at the time, fight for the Free Minmatar-Gallente Hedonism. The Fascist Amarr-Caldari Alliance will tremble at the sound of our blasters and the *SKREEEE* of our drones.
Since we also have an industrial core, we will also run military hardware to Amarr and Caldari pirate factions to assist in the destabilisation of their societies. "The enemy of my enemy is an opportunity for business" - ARIS Rule of Acquisition #2

As already posted, I am 99% sure most caldari mission runners are in it for isk and couldn't care less about this. Sure, probably the same for other races as well, but to a lesser degree. |

Nationalist beware, I predict the factions will split and the established norms will go out of the window. There will be an outright war, as most expect, and a clandestine, subversive 'civil war'. For example you'll be able to align with a gallentian faction to fight Amarrian sepratists with the tacit approval of the orthodox Amarrian Empire.
Interesting times.
