You probably can't unless the vaga pilot is stupid.
Since you won't have enough spare cap to effectively neut the vaga, I'd say your best bet is to active your OWN mwd and attempt to limit the vaga's transverse velocity. Carry a flight of warrior or better yet warrior II drones with you into battle as they will occasionally get in a hit or two. The nano vaga doesn't have much in the way of a bite and I generally view them as super heavy tacklers versus actual damage ships. A few solid hits will generally drive the vaga away. Of course, if they get inside web range then the fight decisively is in the favor of the Cyclone, but in my experience a vaga pilot will do everything in his power to keep that from happening.
The real thing to worry about is nano's rarely travel alone because they have terrible DPS. Often the vaga is just a vanguard of a larger nano-blob.

Short answer: Don't use a Cyclone.
Long answer: With the right combination of sensor boosters and webs on a Cyclone it might be possible to dual web a Vagabond if he happens to pass within web range. But you're asking too much, I think. First that if/when he passes within web range that you actually have him locked and second that you can kill him before he kills you.
Even if the Vagabond wasn't fast, HACs outclass Tier1 BCs in most cases. You're asking too much if you think a 20mil ISK ship should be able to rat all day and catch and kill HACs. |

You are pretty much screwed.
One of the features of nano ships (and who doesn't nano a vaga?), is that they can disengage at any time. You're not going to kill one unless the pilot makes a mistake....and with a ratting set-up, you're only going to kill an AFK vaga.
As for staying alive.... What did you expect ratting with hostiles/neutrals in system with you? I'd look at HOW you rat rather than the types of ships that attack you.
Good luck.

Aside from the lame ass "change ship' suggestion, one option with nano and inty ships is to fly into the roids. Its much harder to do with a BC than something smaller, but aim for a gap in a the asteroids and fly into it.
What your aiming to do is cause the pilot to bounce off the roids and lose momentum. It doesn't always work, but when it does, its a beauty.
From there you have two options...attempt to kill it, or more likely (and especially if he's changing course trying not to get caught up) break its 20 / 24 / 30 KM warp disrupter range, and warp off. If you are attempting to warp off, dont fire on it lest sentry guns decide you look tasty too or the station wont let you dock.

At work so cant answer this.. but could you fit some ecm drones instead of damage dealers...align to warp to a safe spot near a planet (Have one at each planet if your in a belt say 500 km off the planet )
...release drones and start spamming warp hoping for the best?

Sentry guns won't attack him for shooting unless he shot first. But it would keep him from being able to use gates or dock for 30(?) seconds something. |

I actually used the roid trick fairly recently. I was ratting when a raptor jumped into my system. I was being warp jammed by a rat and by the time I popped it, the raptor was on me. Knowing a raptor is almost always a precursor to something nasty, I burned for the nearest rocks and just HOPED he'd bounce off one. He did, I snagged him with 7 heavy missiles which put him in armor and then he left me alone. Then I ran like a cheese eating surrender monkey as his nano buddies tore through the system for a bit.
I've also managed to get this to work by hiding INSIDE the gates, but thats only when I want to stand and fight.
Actually, I had pretty good luck overall this weeked with nano gangs - Probably a dozen groups, 3 engagements and only one defeat. Course, all I really did was pop a LOT of drones and force a disengagement but anyone you walk away from is a win in 0.0. |

Using 3xmed 2xlight ecm drones you'd have ~39% chance to jam per cycle, so it's not the most reliable bet, but it could work.

You have a valid point sir. I didn't consider this as my tendency, when i see any ship barreling down on me, is to preemptively retaliate in the hope that if I cant kill it I can throw it off to escape.

Don't forget if hes flashy red (-5 sec status) you need not worry about taking gate gun fire or station aggro. Could even try and pin him at a high/low sec gate, but vagas are fast so it prolly wont happen. |

Good suggestion, also if you are ratting be aware of local and if they pirates or not (neg standing). Check your scanner and hide/cloak if you are ratting. Against a vaga, there isn't much you can do except scare him off with missiles and drones, web and point aren't going to do much against him since he will just coast out of range unless he gets caught on a roid, like the above poster suggested.

As others have stated rapier. For the record do not engage a vagabond solo in a rapier, it doesn't turn out as expected unless you get a lot of people on the vagabond fast.

If you've got a tracking disrupter (optimal / falloff reduction) they are a piece of cake solo. Just slap that on with dual webs, get out to about 22km and taste his delicious tears.

High: 5x180mm Tech II, 2 Med NOS, 1 Med Smart Bomb (For his ECM drones) Med: Med Shield Rep II, 2 Stasis Web II, 2 Sensor Damp (Damp range, force him into web range or disengage) Low: 2 Gyro, 2 Power diagnostics Rigs: 2 EM, 1 Thr shield
Drone: Hammerhead IIx4 (Do not launch them until you killed his ecm drones and have him webbed)

Disruptors are good, as are dampeners. I imagine that a speed tanked Rapier with a faction scram, especially combined with damps or disruptors, would be able to orbit at range and use drones and arty for damage. |

You might be able to get one by overheating a faction web,if you had one,but it's risky at best,as vagas usually have friends.
