Could this not totally destroy MC's reputation as a feared fighting force?
H74 was invaded by BoB and friends Thursday at around 1800 EVE. Their towers came out of reinforced Saturday night/Sunday morning between 0030 and 0230(ish). There was absolutely no defence from MC on one of their major systems? Major enough they build up the sov so they can drop a Cyno Jammer. Odyssey committed horrendous insurance fraud undocking from the station in quite a few BS, some without fittings, and have been reported to the relevant authorities  .
But no defence from MC though they had from Thursday evening to arrange it. Oh there was a Goon fleet of around 75 not too far away but they bailed and heaed back to 319 an hour or so before the first tower came out. There were reports that RA were going to show as MC had set them, and Goons, to blue in an attempt to defend H74 but of course they knew they couldn't massively out number the BoB and friends cap fleet with theior cap fleet so they didn't bother showing.
So after an uneventful tower bashing few hours we went to 1-N. Now MC were told in H74 local that from at least Friday onwards that BoB and friends were headed to 1-N on Thursday this coming week. This wasn't bull****, but an attempt to actually get a fight. Of course it failed miserably. After the yawn fest last night in H74, Molle took us all to 1-N and the BS took down the Cyno Jammer, a very nicely defended PoS and I did think I was going to lose my BS at one point  (I wouldn't have minded too much as I was knackered and wanted to goto bed) but the damn heroic Logistic pilots saved the day once again.
After the Jammer went down the caps jumped in, a silly amount for the time of Euro morning tbh, and got to work on the towers. Now the thing that got me was when it was said there were only 6 towers in 1-N. OK I'm no expert, no really I'm not, but with the advanced notice I was expecting a few more towers than that.
Back to my original question. Could this not totally destroy MC's reputation as a feared fighting force? Well if they are not bothered about defending their home systems and let an invading force do what they want, then why would anyone employ them again as Merc's?
Thier reputation took a huge dip after backstabbing BoB, yes I know they were Merc's but even Merc's need friends tbh, and now they don't even fight to defend their home(s).
Damn shame tbh. MC were my heroes early on in my EVE life

Imo, I wouldn't hire a Merc Corp who can't even defend its own space. I mean, how can you expect it to defend your assets if it canÆt defend its own?
What Bob have done here is simple, they have stood outside MC's front door, set up a camp on their front lawn and shouted 'come and have a go if you think youÆre hard enough'. Clearly MC is not. ItÆs an awful blow to their reputation and shows a total lack of forward planning on the part of the leadership in that there appears to be no strategy at all to deal with this obviously inevitable event.
I liked MC a lot, but recent choices have been misguided and short sighted to say the least.

Simple. They know when not to fight. MC fights are all about being opportunistic bastids which works fine in Empire or when you outblob your opponent. And in this case they're outnumbered 3:1.

On the whole it evens out since GBC (or what's left of it) gained more enemies.
Besides its a huge blow for morale when you RL friend starts screwing you over because of some silly game.
The only reputation thats at stake here is Bobs' where they are practically begging for ' good fights'. And it seems they are only getting more POS grinding.

As far as MCs reputation as an elite fighting force, I think they are still just that. Unfortunately, being a small force, they cannot really compete in the large scale inter-alliance blob warefare that goes on these days.
Which is why I think they should give up Period Basis, and go back to being 100% mercenary.

I totally agree and feel sorry for MC as well. One could wish an alliance with history of such integrity had a space-holding partner they could rely on protection from titans and capital fleets. All they'd need to do is work out some kind of an agreement and adhere to a common-sense-based code.
But since the framework of principles they've been basing their actions on has always been consistent and their past remains unblemished, I'm sure they'll be able to find a stronger friend they could rely on in no time.
