Skye Maginon	Posted - 2008.04.27 17:54:00 - [1] When I start EVE up in the login screen, I get a message that says I don't have any Audio Drivers installed, and that sound will not play. Even though I have a Realtek HD Audio driver installed, no matter what I can seem to fiddle with it doesn't acknowledge it. I did notice that it cannot recognize that Realtek driver as the output driver, just "Direct Sound". Any suggestions/thoughts?

In fact, I was running one instance of Eve, and the sound was fine, then I went to load another for my alt and I get this problem. It happend straight out of the blue and everything was working fine yesterday and I haven't changed or updated anything. Now every time I've tried to go into the game I get this problem. I've tried re-installing my AC97 drivers to no avail, now I'm going to re-install Eve and see how that goes

It says "Audio Drivers Not Detected, Sound System Will Not Be Activated, Please Make Sure You Have Audio Drivers Installed" Sound works on every other game I've tried. I even uninstalled and reinstalled drivers and uninstalled and reinstalled EVE but keep getting the same message.

Myself personally, I have not had any windows updates installed recently. Nor have I made any changes from yesterday to today. Sound was working fine yesterday and today when I logged on, I get that same message that others are getting.

Verify DirectSound is working: WindowsKey + R to get the Run dialog and type "dxdiag" without quotes. Select the "sound1" tab and test DirectSound. If the problem only occurs with Eve then file a bug report. Strange that 3 of you have the same problem within days of each other. Maybe a background process on your computer was updated recently (firewall, anti-virus, system settings protector, etc.), that is conflicting with the detection of the drivers.

Sound is working perfectly in all other games. It just doesn't see the Realtek HD driver as the output driver, just the output device. Know anything about that?
Mr Saito	Posted - 2008.05.02 12:10:00 - [22] Blue Binary, thanks for your suggestions. I tried them all but it didn't fix the problem. Skye, I am having exactly the same problems as you are describing. Audio works fine on all other applications and on all other games. Just not working on EVE.

Make sure your RealTek HD is default output device. Are you using a USB/Bluetooth headset? Other threads with the same problem: Post #2 has a solution. Post #4 has a solution. Mr Saito	Posted - 2008.05.02 19:00:00 - [25] I checked and RealTek HD is default output device. I've never used nor do I have a headset to play EVE. I've always just used regular speakers for sound. I've been messing with this for days now and feel ready to give up. EVE or any other game for that matter, just isn't the same for me without sound. I've got the Age of Conan beta which I guess I'll go play for a while. Its got fantastic sound.
Skye Maginon	Posted - 2008.05.03 00:49:00 - [26] Holy crap! So I put in my USB headset. . .changed the settings to get music out of the headset. . .heard the music. Good. With the USB headset still plugged in, I changed the sound back to Realtek HD. Surprise! Sound comes out! Even when I removed the headset from the computer, sound still works! Genius! A little bit weird, but still genius! Thanks for the tip!

Because I haven't had to use the USB headset since, I would suggest finding a friend that you can borrow it from. Just plug it in before you run EVE, set the sound setting to come out of your headset, then unplug your headset and change the setting. . .should work just fine :-)
Mr Saito	Posted - 2008.05.07 12:09:00 - [29] I submitted a bug report to CCP and they requested a Logserver file which I sent them. We'll see what steps they take to remedy this. This is a problem with CCP, not yours, mine or anyones else's computer or hardware/software issue.
