Apologies if this isn't the right board to post on, but I think it best fits the nature of my question.
These days I'm having some fun on the test servers during downtimes and I was just wondering if there is no way to get skills faster than by training them. I mean, it's a test server, but I find it tedious to wait 8 days for a skill to complete that would allow me to try something out. Considering the test server is what it is -- a test server with no influence whatsoever on the Tranquility, would it not be a good idea to simply be able to train any skill instantly, and even "untrain" skills to compare stuff between one level and another?
Just a thought. --- I bring you joy, I bring you pain, I bring you some sunshine And some rain. |

I've been writing about this in different forms a few times and I still think it's needed.

They should allow the ability to players to toggle the skill levels on chaos, sure you would get the players that put every skill at 5, but you would also get players that test things out at different levels to see if its worth training a skill to the next level, things like that, etc.
Either that, or give us uber implants that increase your attributes to like 100. (for chaos only of course).

I think the idea is so that people who already have the skill or are willing to train the skill would have a better idea of how to use it.
And it wouldn't do much for testing purposes. Right now people are using "real" characters for a more accurate representation of how they will act on TQ. If pretty much anyone was able to speed up their skills to insane rates on Chaos, then everyone would have all level 5 skills and be using the best equipment, it would accomplish nothing as it isn't an accurate representation of how it would happen on TQ.
However, I believe the GMs on some occasions will boost skills of a select few players so they can help test a new or altered item. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

First, a short statement about the both test servers: The test server, also called Entropy, is used for reproducing bugs and testing release candidates. Everything on this server should be like on the live server Tranquility. You should test your normal playing. Do everything like you would do on TQ. There is no FCC and no skill support at all on this server. The development server, also called Chaos, is has the last recent build. It reboots frequently. You can test whatever you want there. We have setup the Fight Club Station (FCC) in PF-346. You can be transfered to this system on request (ask in eve-chaos channel). In this station you get everything that is available at TQ. We are not giving out tech II equipment that is not on TQ or very rare.
As you see, modifying skills is only allowed on Chaos. Additionally, changing skills can only be done using the webinterface. This means, each time you want to change a skill a dev has to change it for you. That's why it is only rarely done. There might be a change later, but for now it is impossible to set or remove skills on a char for everyone. If anything changes, i will post it here.

It's called Entropy and there is FCC on it, hence having skill support there as well would make more sense, I guess :)

Speaking of which, Chaos is running on b1423, while the Tranquility runs b1424, which doesn't make much sense, I guess. But I understand the devs may have been busy with other things. Still, I'm just wondering: any idea when Chaos will be updated to 1425 or whatever? --- I bring you joy, I bring you pain, I bring you some sunshine And some rain. |

Yeah, you are right the name is Entropy now. We had a vote for the name and Eternity was one suggestion.
In fact 1423 is newer then 1424. Chaos and TQ run different branches. Anyway, there will be a new Chaos build very soon(tm).

Good idea, but id be happy if they just updated the skills to represent something close to your character on TQ, i mean for crying out loud, i have close to 3x the skillpoint on TQ as i do on chaos.
Although adding the ability to change your skills could also be silly and damaging. If someone can get all the skills to lvl5, and use anything in the game, why carry on playing it for another god knows how long?
I mean, is it just me, or do games kinda get boring after you have "cheated" and seen everything the game has to offer? 2004.08.22 21:03:00 combat Your Anode Light Neutron Particle Cannon I perfectly strikes callonious [BSC], wrecking for 236.9 damage. |

Why not port it so the average joe can use it? (On chaos only of course). ------- Your 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes Guardian Enforcer, wrecking for 827.3 damage. |

I'd just be happy if they'd raise everyone's attributes to 20 on Chaos.
Or put "special" implants in the FCC hangar with a +10 attribute boost.
Or even put something other than basic implants in the hangar on Chaos. ;)

I for one would welcome having the ability to set skills to specific levels. As voogru stated, it would be nice for those of us that wish to compare the difference in say level 3, vs level 4, or 5. Sure, I can run the math and get theoretical estimations of how a level change will add to my abilities, but until you put the theory to use in a real environment you are just kidding yourself. And in the past there have been bugs in Skill levels not adding their bonus, and if you can test a module at each and every level, you can better spot those issues too.
To those that believe that Chaos would be full of people just playing there because they donÆt have to work for anything, well, sure there are people like that. Although I for one enjoy testing and looking for bugs, there are others that would rather just play with the uber kit and toys and shoot each other in duels. You need both kinds to really test the mechanics of a combat system. I donÆt think playing with the Uber stuff on chaos is all that fun, since when you go back to TQ youÆre Superman sans super. I do like to test TQ legal fittings and compare skills against that. Although I cant do that very well without the ability to adjust my skills up or down and watch them in real combat.

I'd settle for them just taking a snapshot of the skillset of my characters on Tranquility more often....not just once in a blue moon.

What a necro!
But yeah, instant skill training/untraining would be just awesome.
I can remember that once (a long long time ago) they had accelerated skill training on the test server. High ranked skills still would take a while, but it was rather hours than weeks.
No idea why that got canned again *shrug*
Ciao, Aronis!
