While I can see some usefulness in this feature, it'd need to be presented so that all but the dumbest would understand that it's not a guarantee that you can sell your ravens at 500 mil each. Calling it "expected earnings" is going to increase the hate on MD.

Step One: Export Orders Step Two: Open Export with Excel/Open Office Step Three: Insert formula to do some maths Step Four: Read the total, gain knowledge. Alternately
Learn to do 3rd grade math and up the numbers your damn self. Requires effort and intelligence though so you may want to check to see if you have any in stock.

Sadly judging by how some cry for tools ingame to do all the work for them, I suspect that such math as you describe Shar may require some to have to remove their shoes and socks to do the math.

Not worth it. After tomorrow I might not be back in Eve ever again so I've already dished out iskies all over, friends and investments, and all my "stuff" is loaned out to people who can, and will, put it to good use while leaving me the option of getting it all back if I am able to come back. Besides, my own person wallet has never been more than 4 billion at any given time. Almost everything I've ever done in game has been towards my corp or to "sister" corps. (I.e. MBB or Lancers) I embrace enlightened self interest and hate when charity/kindness is expected. However when I can indulge myself, at my own decision, I tend to be charitable and/or kind. Just never in public.

All he's asking for is a little total on his wallet for sell orders, just like the total on the buy orders. I'm all for CCP implementing improvments that allow you to see your personal data in interesting ways. Mostly because that's what I'm paying them for!
Posting a 4 step solution that requires domain knowledge of scripting in excel/open office makes you look like an ignorant *****.

Better to be an ignorant in attitude then ignorant of knowledge. Point in fact: There is no scripting involved. The market interface supports an export feature to txt file. If this person has the competency to be a market trader then presuming that the simple function like (Sum) is woefully within reach. I'm all for improvements to the game mind you. I just prefer that community focus is not on the inane, redundant, or the just plain lazy. It's a preference thing, yes of course. But, in the final tally, I'd rather appear an ass when contributing instead of appearing like an idiot doing nothing more than yapping at his betters to hear himself bark. And a good day to you madam.

I think this is going a bit far. I am very good at doing math in my head, especially if I round. While I def could add the numbers of my sell orders up in my head it would take a long time and probably some jotting down of numbers.
220+ sell orders of items worth anywhere between 3isk and over a billion sometimes with varying quantities of items from 1 into the hundreds of millions at times.
Yes, I can do the math in my head, but that is really pushing it and I take pride in my ability to do that sort of thing. I just don't even bother keeping track of th value of my sell orders, not worth the effort. I don't even think it's worth the effort of exporting the data and importing it to excel, etc. The number just is not important enough for me, for a beginning trader it may be more useful.
In any case, I think telling someone they are stupid if they can't do some incredibly long math in their head (200+ additions of products) is pushing things.

Export Sell Orders to CSV and open in excel Reduce to columns (Items Remanining, Price) Write in C (=A1*B1) Drag down to the bottom of the list. below that, write (=SUM(C1:Cx) (x being whatever number the last figure is).
Voila!

hmmm i'm all for constructive criticism but calling someone me stupid was a bit more than i asked for... thanks for the excel tip though.
and ya i was just asking for a simple total, kinda like the escrow one for buy orders, i mean they have it for buy orders why not have a similar one for sell orders. |

Wow. What a douchebag.
Have you ever considered that excel itself only exists because some people said 'hang on, all this manual crunching of numbers sucks, surely there is some way to get these new computer things to do this for us?'
In shar tegral's world, the wheel would have been shouted down as an unnecessary luxury for stupid and lazy people.

Guys, if it's so easy to do in excel (and it is) then there's no excuse for this information not to be present in the EVE UI from the start.
The EVE UI has a lot of things like that...useful stuff that wouldn't be hard to add in, which for some reason is inexplicably absent. |

.....but it is carebear improvements, something that CCP has demonstrated time and time again, is beneath their ability to care and implement. If it aint directly related to pew pew of sorts, CCP really seems to hardly care to do anything in way of improvements. |

When I was first starting out with trade (not that long ago) I placed buy orders I could work with. Say just shy of 5m isk. Using trit as an example:
Buy order: Price 3.5 p/u Volume 1,300,000 ---------------- Sub Total 4,641,000 After tax/fee 4,687,410
Break Even: 4734284.1
So I know as long as I can sell that lot or any lot for 5m isk. It's a profit. |

Don't misunderstand me: I would like to see this information available in the in-game UI as well; I just wanted to make it even easier for people to do on their own in the meantime.
As for why it's not in the UI already, perhaps it's simple prioritisation: even in my own (notional) feature wish-list as someone who would use it, this would be a low priority. And even though it's simple, it would still need a programmer or two (the second to review the work of the first) and testing and so on, and I'd hope that such work time is already lined up toward other features. Maybe someday!

Wow, I never knew about sumproduct AND I already use OpenOffice. Though this leads to my housemates crying lots when they write up a document and can't take it to uni because they forgot to change it from .odt file format. |

Can I have your stuff, if there is stuff to be haved? And this "getting it all back" thing sounds complicated. Maybe you should give your stuff to me instead of me just having it.
I was thinking we could call the original quantity of the thread something like "total nominal pricing of sell orders", though I imagine it'd work better with less syllables.

On the one hand, it would be nice to have the total gross on the sales orders. But there are so many numbers that it would be 'nice' to have in the UI, but are 'not essential' to game play. I can see why it was not included.
Me, I have only a handful of orders to deal with, so I just plug away with a hand calculator. For the real traders, aren't there 3rd party utilities that do this kind of thing, and more?
Anyway, I hope they don't implement an easy total. The game should't be easy.

i WOULD complain about this feature not being in game, but by being forced to use the aforementioned "export->import to excel" exercise, i have some very pretty, educational graphs to work with.
through the exports, i can get a breakdown of the asset spread between different trading alts across systems, the amount i have total in buy orders, and how much is left to be covered (margin trading). Adding to that my cash total, i have a nice round figure for my NAV, which is put into a graph to show the progression of my NAV.
I don't understand why any trader, experienced or not, would want to forgo having such information. If my assets are falling in value by more than theyre gaining overall, i'd like to know about it. And with well over 200 orders it's quite difficult to tell without the spreadsheet. It's also nice to know how much you can leave uncovered by estimating how much is going to sell, or how much faster things are selling in one hub compared to another (can be eyeballed, but again with a hundred items on sell...hard to tell). |

I think this is a great idea, especially for people that deal with a high number of orders. |

Sure, you can export and use programs/excel, but that's overkill if all you want is a projected total. A lot of the time I'm just curious about how much is up in sell orders. I don't want to spend 10 minutes exporting, and I don't really care if I get pretty graphs and pictures for my effort. I just want the number.
I definitely would like to see this feature in game. It'd take all of about 2 seconds to implement too. |

Totally agree.
Whilst I could add up 57 sell orders in my head whilst squinting at tiny text, I would rather not have to. A simple total displayed on market would be great. |

Edited by: Roguehalo on 03/05/2008 13:33:51 Our buy orders already get added up for us............be a really nice additional feature if our sell orders were added up too.
Having said that I can skim down my sell orders and come up with a rough and ready figure quite quickly so it's a non-problem really

I was pondering the same idea some time ago and frankly I don't see why this feature shouldn't be implemented since it's computed client side. Knowing your projected income is quite an incentive for allocating more time and effort to trading.
