I wonder how many people complaining about lag took part in this test:
http://myeve.eve-online.com/news.asp?a=single&nid=1951&tid=1
Only the Un-employed since it was held on a weekday "Tuesday, 29 April"
Another grand move by the gods of we talk but no action there
It was evening in Europe.

WOW, absolute disgust for the first few poasters in this thread, the guy has a serious problem we have all delt with and is learning for the first time the hard way... why flame a guy with an honest gripe? game play sucks and the moar people complaining is the only hope we have for mechanics change / tech change...
of all the things people complain about, this shouldnt ever get flamed, get pwn'd, get old, or whatever... i always feel sorry for pilots who lose due to lag whether they are my enemies or not, any rtard out there gonna flame this guy is a POS IMHO, its just ridiculous
NO SH*T we have heard this before but STFU and let people be heard, we can all comiserate with the craptastic server response for anything over 50 in a sys during combat |

Lost two Hurricanes to lag this past weekend, one fully rigged.
Petitioned, but I realized there are too many user-side issues creating lag for CCP to give blanket reimbursements.
PC upgrades (videocard and RAM) on their way. Hope like h--- that will work. |

I'll agree about the lag causing frustration. I mean the whole point in eve is going with your corpmates into large fleet battles and having a blast dishing it out. However, if every time when I go on fleet ops battle and I get lagged out then what's the point in playing? What's left in eve if all you can do is mine, do missions, and go on small skirmishes. I'll admit that it doesn't happen all the time but when it does it's like getting hit in the jewels.
I like the game to because of the comradeship that's built around the corps that are formed, but it's the little annoyances are starting to snowball for me. So far I've been playing the game for about 1.5 years now so I do enjoy it. |

Yes, that's EXACTLY why. Because there could be no possible benefit to having as many people as possible, in as many different locations as possible for a stress test. Infact, I wonder why other companies don't ask for people to help durings stress tests....oh wait... |

Well i was there and we had plenty of people online. And what the hell is wrong with jumping on the test server every now and then? Everythings 100 isk so you can have a good ole time testing out ship fittings at the FFA areas. All we did was shooot each other and talk smack so I don't quite understand what you mean by 'testing others software for free' bit. Tbh is was the first time in my experience on the test server that we had 200 in MD-FLJ without any lag. So maybe the new network layer is a step forward yes? |

I'll hope that'll carry over into the game server.
I can understand if in a large fleet battle the fps drops to about 10-15 but totally lagging out is just annoying. |

Well actually for the majority of Eve there is no lag outside of Jita and the Motsu area. 0.0 residents and the resultant fleet fights and lag death effect about 20% of the playerbase so his post was to mock the ops statement about how Eve will die over something that effects such a small segment of the playerbase. Fleet fights are the last major lag monster to be killed because it is the hardest and most costly issue to fix. So go figure why CCP has fixed the game for the 80% and left the 20% to wait. Oh wait ill go ahead and tell you. Those 80% pay for the eventual upgrades for the 20%. |

Thank-goodness someone has posted another thread on the issue of Lag as Im sure that CCP are completely unaware of lag within the game as its just so unusual for MMOs to suffer from lag during peak periods.
Hopefully they'll take this brilliantly origional post and consider applying their massive Infinity project to dealing with it rather than using it for er...umm.. - oh wait.
Pointing out lag is like pointing out there's some weather outside. Get a grip.

TBH, CCP has already all they can to speed up individual nodes. Silicon has pretty much hit it's limit with regards to speed of a single CPU Core. Seriously, processor speeds were sky rocketing before 2000. Now processor speeds have been stuck at around 3GHz for several years. The only way we have been able to make computers go faster is to slap multiple CPU Cores together. However, in order to take advantage of that, you have to use parallel processing. CCP has stated that while they will use parallel processing to offload the market and in-station activities to another CPU, EVE's combat will still be confined to a single CPU.
Don't get me wrong, there will be significant improvements when CCP does this Infiniband super computer thing, but the improvements aren't what most of us players think it will be.

Lag should be addressed in the forums frequently until CCP responds with some honesty and petition changes. Admit lag is a fact of game play and end reimbursement petitions. The reimbursement process(read:ship lottery depending on GM's mood) wastes everyones time and causes hard feelings or in the worst case scenario; the famous "I quit" thread. |

This wasn't even in 0.0, was a low sec action. No, i wasn't there, but from what I've heard, frame rates dropped to 0 basically. Judging by the number of pods on the killboards, the lag must have been real bad. Many condolences FOE. I realize there is a point of diminishing returns as far as how many people and how much money you can throw at a problem, but I sometimes wonder if CCP is at that point with reducing the lag and bugs in this otherwise very fun game. Maybe they are, but as slowly as bugs get fixed, I sometimes doubt it. And, no I'm not quiting. |

It is the course of the game. Titans, Supercapitals, POS Sovereignity, they all take a huge blob to take down. It is a game were those with the largest number, with the most capital ships win. Smaller alliances can only exist for a time, to be exploited, betrayed and in the end killed by larger alliances.
Blob creates a Blob, to fight the larger Blob, that in return, assembles an even larger Blob. This will not change. If the servers could handle a 500 vs. 500 fight with capital ships, then 2000 vs. 2000 battles would be common and there would be even more complains about lag.
Two years ago, the Developers promised us epic battles. Now we have epic battles every week, with more and more material and my conclusion is, it sucks.
The whole endgame in eve is something for masochists without RL an endless grind with ops at odd hours, single players reduced to a meaningless entity within the blob. It sucks, it makes even endless grind for a 0,00005% chance of an epic item in WoW look like fun.
Instead of players who do their find their own goals and do what we like, in a violent way, we are forced to either fight on the side of people we do not like in ever increading blobs, or have our niche in the game taken away.
Buch of Bastards, Tripple *******, Smackancy, ***swarm, do whatever you want. I no longer care. |

Did you bother to login to Singularity on the 29th to test the new Network Layer? ... if no, then shut it.
They were testing the new Network Layer which obviously means they are working on on it.

Edited by: fishery on 02/05/2008 21:58:04 In my eye's the game is becoming a bit of a farce, CCP has introduced elements to the game such as fighters and drones that render the game often unplayable during fleet combat. But until people start leaving the game why should they do anything? they are in this to make money first and foremost.
To get rid of the lag issue would mean they have to make big changes to the game mechanics, such as remove drones/ fighters and this would risk losing many players and lots of money. Or they can spend huge amounts of money investing in server solutions that would probably not solve the situation.
I think CCP are stuck between a rock and a hard place. But if people do start leaving in big numbers maybe they may have to swallow the bitter pill and change the game dramatically. |
