That is a great post, its shows how there is no lag in EVE.
Well actually for the majority of Eve there is no lag outside of Jita and the Motsu area. 0.0 residents and the resultant fleet fights and lag death effect about 20% of the playerbase so his post was to mock the ops statement about how Eve will die over something that effects such a small segment of the playerbase. Fleet fights are the last major lag monster to be killed because it is the hardest and most costly issue to fix. So go figure why CCP has fixed the game for the 80% and left the 20% to wait. Oh wait ill go ahead and tell you. Those 80% pay for the eventual upgrades for the 20%.
But sir, fleet combat in an 'endgame' for many players. We've all worked to get skills and isk to finally hang with the big boys and enjoy some combat. Many of the 80% you're refering to are working towards reaching a goal that will let them down. Are you saying we should all just mine or pirate until CCP fixes their game? Once again, I didn't put Titans and POS's into the game, CCP did. |

Trust, I understand your pain. Eve sucked big fat donkey balls lagwise when I first started playing waaay back in 2004 but over time CCP has pretty much made the game quite playable for the majority. Unfortunatly cold hard economics determine who gets the lions share of the profits to keep the game up and running. Remember that Eve is a work in progress though I really really wish it was otherwise as I've been playing for years waiting for the eventual 0.0 buff that is soooo close to happening. Alas fleet fights still suck and will continue to suck until the supercomputer and infiniband hits. Patience will be rewarded in due time. |

The infiniband thread is very interesting. I can't wait to see some of that technology implemented. For the record, I have my accounts paid in advance for several months. If I were to quit now my accounts would still be active for a collective 16 months. I feel like I've made an investment in time and money playing EVE and I just want to see a return at some point. Starting threads seems to be the only way to make a voice heard.
Our alliance knew about this battle well ahead of time. Would it be possible for CCP to allow us to request that a certain solar system be placed on a faster server for a short period of time? Just a thought. |

Yea, CCP dont listen to us. The fact that they are working on infiband and a new super computer to sort out this exact problem cant possibly mean that they do infact listen and are willing to invest millions in new hardwear...

Good points, New server.. Dev blogs only Infiband.... Oh look dev blogs only....
Words mean ****. CCP have used words to state they are working on a lot of things.. and a lot of them are still "on the drawing board" how about they stop using words and start producing results.
maybe i'm being selfish or whatever but i don't care, i used to support CCP against the rabble of forum trolls.. and it's takin almost 3 years but there right.. CCP use words to show they are infact working on large projects but hardly ever come up with the goods.
But as long as Eve is the only space based combat directed MMO out there despite it's drawbacks (and thats a long list) i'll be here. |

you do know that they tested infiband no too long ago and that building one of the most powerful computers in the world takes a very long time right?
They are working on it, topics like these wont magicly make it happen any faster. |

As I said... lets see what they do. Anyway all that trouble for example with the overview bug and CCP not even caring about it despite the numerous topics posts and reports on it, makes me really curious. They didn't fix it in one month and i'm not expecting it to be fixed soon, although it is quite an annoying bug that should have been top of the list by most of the people i know and read on forums. Sure all you hear about nowadays is that new supergigamegauber computer and ambulation. Nice, but until we have female corpses announced like they did in the trinity video... they really should spend a bit less on words and more on actions. You know, I don't like it when a company just laughs on those dumb customers cause they will buy anything they give anyway.

Wrong. I didn't Alpha or Beta test any release of any game I wasn't paid to Alpha or Beta test, nor in fact any software anywhere in the whole wide world.
If you think that means I am not allowed an opinion on software, then you're a little bit silly.
I'm not allowed to complain that any recording slot on my VCR numbered 10 or greater only records static, and not the channel required, while all the others work fine. I'm not allowed an opinion, An Anarchyt says so. Even though I wasn't actually invited to Beta test my VCR's firmware.
I'm not allowed to be concerned that my mobile phone locks up if I press the back button repeatedly. An Anarchyt says so. Not allowed. I wasn't invited to Beta test it. And I wouldn't even if I had.
It's not my job to make sure planes don't crash. So it's fine if I die in a plane crash?
I rarely hear such absolute toilet spewing from people, they generally have to be small minded fanboiz first, then it's all bets void.
Besides I never complained about the lag, not that you ever cared to read AND comprehend. The things I complained about, I tried to stop. Didn't work out too great for me. So I don't feel obliged to get involved with CCP because the best thing I have ever seen come from it, is pile of **** flung in my direction from people with minds so small you can't realistically test for them.
So thank you for you diatribe and judgement on what makes successful software deployments, but I'm filing it under B. |

Edited by: Shananigan on 03/05/2008 12:35:14 It's interesting how all these people are having problems when a large number of ships are in view, yet I keep my comp up to date with hardware and drivers and have never ever once lagged as bad as people are saying in the 2 years I have been playing eve, and I have watched plenty of epic battles while cloaked and hiding so not be caught in the crossfire
Oh my point... update your system mayhaps? or perhaps get a better IP. |

Tested infiband... Really after so many CCP and players have stated that testing on SISI is in no way close to deploying on TQ due to the player count and mass useage. they might as well test it on a beer mat in that case.
Building the new server... erm.. just words mate at this time and we have heard zip in what 6-12 months ? what they building it out of matchsticks ? at what point does there new server become outofdate before it even hits the power points. IT moves so fast that they either build it, drop it or just settle for something that could help and own up.
Despire my *****in I want CCP to improve the game, I want them to become much larger then they are but not at the cost of running eve into the groud on pipedreams and whispers of things to come.
and no topics like this won't make it come faster, but it might make CCP think that not all the playerbase believes in there transparent words until actions are taking and results are visable in game, no dev blogs, no words, in game results, thats what matter. but i'll drop it and every dev blog that appears with words just ask yourself how many of these words you have heard and what results you get ingame.
After all the dev blogs on Need for speed have worked right? |

Unless you have a spare supercomputer with the ability to host 50,000 players logged in with little to no lag you are going to have to wait untill IBM builds one.

Lag is reduced by lowering ship hp.
There was whining, back in the day, that fights were too short and useless players felt they needed more time to suck. Hp's were boosted, capital ships introduced and fights are now longer and horrible lagfests.
If everyone dies faster they will spend less time in system and will send less data to the server.
Bring back the 2003 tempest.

Originally by: Taedrin TBH, CCP has already all they can to speed up individual nodes. Silicon has pretty much hit it's limit with regards to speed of a single CPU Core. Seriously, processor speeds were sky rocketing before 2000. Now processor speeds have been stuck at around 3GHz for several years. The only way we have been able to make computers go faster is to slap multiple CPU Cores together. However, in order to take advantage of that, you have to use parallel processing. CCP has stated that while they will use parallel processing to offload the market and in-station activities to another CPU, EVE's combat will still be confined to a single CPU.
Don't get me wrong, there will be significant improvements when CCP does this Infiniband super computer thing, but the improvements aren't what most of us players think it will be.
what the hell? did we just get a comp sci lecture? listen, there are always limitations but the game mechanics choices dictate the concentration of players into given systems, if they made it easier for less people to do moar things wouldnt be the ulitmate chaos they are now |

Edited by: Darin Ralten on 03/05/2008 17:52:56 Edited by: Darin Ralten on 03/05/2008 17:51:03 I'm one of Uncle Mo's alliance mates ...
This recent battle (and our last war) has all but killed my desire to play the game - its simply not fun anymore. POS comes out of reinforced - we have 40-50 ships and they have 20 and when the lag hit, 20 more entered system. It was so badly lagged out that it took two minutes to activate a module.
Its getting to the point that if you fight in our corner of essence that all you have to do is unload all ur drones at the same time and GG you win, your opponent just got lagged out for 15 minutes (no, I'm not exaggerating) while your drones kill them one by one.
We had pilots in voice going "hey they posted your killmail, you died ... oh they got your pod too" "but I'm still in my ship ...". The lag in that fight was so bad that they were able to alt-tab and post the mail and one of our guys saw it before it even registered he was dead.
How can planetside handle 100v100v100 fps on one shard with not so much as a hiccup, and eve cant handle 60 ships + drones in a fight? Its bull ...
Not to mention that this "haha you u got pwned" EVE-O community certainly doesn't help make me want to stay either.
Whats the damn point in even showing up to fight? May as well self-destruct your ship and give them the kill mail for all the good it will do. |
