Person A is told by Person B that Person B would like to help Person A with some level 4's
Person A accepts
The mission is finished, the isk reward is split, and Person A goes to salvage the mission.
What is the rule of thumb regarding salvaging? I ask because back in WoW (flame ******ent suit is on btw) if you ran a mission with someone who could mine, you didnt ask for half of the ore. So when you salvage a mission, is it proper to give half the salvage to the man who helped out?

Only if they did more of the mission than you did, if not and there not salvageing... More for you.

You salvage what you salvage.
In other words, if Person B wants some loots and salvage, they'd better go back with a salvage ship to pick some up.
Also in my rules, anyone who's salvaging while I'm helping them run missions will not have my help for long - I want more DPS so we're done more quickly. Mind you, it's almost exclusively me being asked to help rather than me offering to help.
That's 'default values' and I do vary - when flying with newer corpmates, I'll let them salvage the prev mission while I work the next, and then we'll work out a loot/salvage split as needed. Still don't like having someone salvage while I'm managing lvl 4 aggro tho. I'm hiding from my main. |

Generally, while I tank the spawns and work on killing them, my fiance comes in once I have aggro and handles the looting in a smaller ship. Usually by the time I finish killing the rats, she's got the rest of the area looted.

Person A and person B work out to run a mission together. While they are busy with the rats, person J probes them down, warps in with a salvage ship, and scoops up all the salvage, which, as we know, belongs to nobody.
Person A and/or person B shoot at person J and are quickly Concorded.
Is it all right for person J to loot their wrecks, or only to salvage them?

You're able to do either, although looting the wrecks will flag you to A/B.

i dont think there is a general rule for this. sometimes the mission owner gets all the loot and salvage. some times both pilots loot and salvage, keeping what they can grab. other times the loot and salvage gets pooled, sold off and profits split (my fav). other times the youngling gets all the salvage (especially if the vet isnt saving for a big shiny toy).
i've seen all sorts of different ways, find the one you feel most comfortable with and talk to the people you fly with to see if they like your way.
salvaging is a very common mini profession though, almost every mission runner will be able to salvage (if they have the gear to hand). which i guess is a big difference between this situation in eve and wow. Because sometimes you just have to go back to your roots: [2005.02.20 01:08:03] (combat) Your Civilian Light Electron Blaster perfectly strikes Serpentis Smuggler, wrecking for 20.3 damage |

When I let some of my alliance mates salvage my missions so they can make some isk, then I just tell them I want z% of x or y salvage as pay for making that salvage available for them. If they are actually running and looting with me, then we just do a 50/50 split. _______________ Pwett CEO, Founder, & Executor <Q> QUANT Hegemony

I know about the aggression mechanic, but this thread is about etiquette.

If I let friends loot or salvage a mission for me, they get whatever they pick up. If I don't want to take the time to loot or salvage a mission, then I didn't earn the loot or salvage. ------------

w/e we agree upon really. I used to offer salvage/loot to other ppl while I run the mission for 10% of the proseeds (or however you spell that).
More often than not I'm doing it all on my own though, I don't really like ppl "helping" me by salvaging my mission because they get half the bounty for doing nothing lol.

LOL @ Etiquette
This is Eve, do what you want, only sheep do what all the other sheep are doing.
Seriously, just talk to who ever your missioning with, just dont expect them to go by their word.
This is Eve, your going to get screwed eventually, its just a matter of when, and how much.
Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

I say, if you don't like them salvaging, tell them "It's OK, you can loot too," and then kill them.

Generally for me, I am going to be salvaging every single BS wreck my paladin can get its hands on. Which means... If you want to salvage, sure... :) Just dont expect much.

If your in a group your either.
a) part of a corp so you dump salvage and loot in corp hanger for the good of the corp.
or
b) asking to be ganked ;)
