Imagine, that fights are logged on your HD automatically (on similarity of server logs) and you can replay all fight, that happens some time ago - to look at fight from a diffirent angles, to capture good looking fraps, to look at own (and another's) mistakes, or simply to cut out a piece of log to share it on forum, so that everyone could start this file himself and look on your favourite nanosacre from any angle. :)
How i imagine this for myself: Any object on battlefield has record of coordinates/current command/current xp(%)/vector of movement for each ship (for static objects - only coordinates, time of creation and time of destruction - if any). Its recorded, for example – every 1 seconds. Launched drones and fighters counted as new ships. Cloaked ships are not recorded up to decloaking and after cloacking. Enemy fit is not recorded (and there is no data on it anyway - only visual model of guns, rof, visual effects of ammo), your own fit/chat/modules etc. are recorded, but there is an opportunity to clean them from final replay (if you want share piece of log for public) After fight it is possible to play this piece of log directly inside of any eve client - like the simulation of fight with free camera moving and rewind, (like wracraft replays). Part of log can be kept in a file (for the future viewings). Log stores some quantity of time of flights and(or) some mb on a disk (at will) – when it become outdated or too big – its deleted.
p.s. Sry for bad english, i hope that general idea is still understandable.

It's been discussed before. But non the less it's a very nice idea. A ability to merge logs (with other logs) would also be nice.
This could have some great advantages for CCP since the number of awesome eve movies would swell tenfold (wich could lead to more players). It would also be a nice tool for analysing fleetfights and share them with the public (maybe even an in-game option for tactical analasys in ambulation).
There's only one sig that matters... and that's Radius. |

This is very usefull tool. For skilled pilots. But for this tool need a little eve-server :) What happens if all got a server-side code?

This feature is already available on some games such as Halo 3, and the number of awesome videos produced is huge. It would not add ANY lag to the game, except maybe on really crappy computers with slow hard drives, and in fact it would speed up the game for those wishing to record stuff compared to using fraps. Add in the ability to share videos, and play them with a separate program, and this could be great. The only downside, is that it would take a LOT of work to program in. ========== This is a signature, a cunning ploy used by forum warriors! |

Dont realy think that its difficult to add. All programmers just layzy (i know):) There is dicqussed many ideas, that will chandge game balance, system reqs, etc. But this one has no downsides at all (even server code or traffic is not needed - only client modification). If only someone in charge notice it... So... bump )

I like this idea too. What would be truly slick is something like done in Halo3 (yea yea yea I know, a console game, yuck) but it made epic matches that much more epic when you could watch em afterwards and select different POV from both sides of the match. That is basically for me what separated that game from others of its genre.
To do the same to Eve-Online would make this already awesome game that much more awesomer. (yea, I just made that up)

The educational aspect alone would be game changing you could look back at all your fights and say.. "ahh, HERE is where we messed up "that's what we can do better.
I can't imagine any single feature that would make this much difference.

It would be nice to watch battles again. Tho for this to be rly good it would be nice if they added some extra features (all of which you would be able to turn on/off )such as
1) The ability to see every ships armour/hull/struct 2) See which ships have how many ppl locking them 3) A red line between ships so you can see who has locked who 4) A counter next to ships so you can see how much DPS they are putting out/taking 5) Ability to slow/pause time 6) As battles can take place in multiple parts of a system at the same time it would be nice if a player could select which systems he wants to count as a single battle and then move between every thing in those systems easily while keeping at the same play speed (not just resuming action at 1x speed if you had it paused before you moved to see a new area).

Now imagine how cool it would be if we could have weekly videos made by this tool on the upcoming faction warfare events. Heads will roll.

I would consider this a great tool, something I can see in the ambulation expansion where your corp/alliance gets together for post-op debriefing and replays the fight and everyone comments on the white board. |

OK first if this where to ever be implemented I would probably c*#$ myself from excitement at such a feature...
now as it appears almost all posts in this thread are supporting I am in the mood to post some problems with this idea (constructive critisysm). Feel free to respond in kind
This would take MASSIVE amount of coding to implement... I'm only in 2nd year studying game design so my current programs are basic (block bash) but seeing all the things this needs makes me think in the time of months for a large team of programers to implement. reasons: going back through and changing code to log all data (no one knows what ccp logs but I'd bet it's not enough to make a replay video from) designing a program that can allow you to view, record, edit these battle logs. If you want this to be successful this would have to be a decent program otherwise it's not much use. Make it possible for this program to read and combine massive databases of battle logs that vary slightly (due to lag)without having 50 phantoms of every object from the different battle logs.

This post has some of the best things that could be done with this feature but also some of the problems.
1,2,3,4 This imformation is generally kept a secret unless it specifically effects you. You wouldn't want enemies to be able to see information like who you are locking, your health, shield and armour (yes i know you get this when you lock someone... misuse eg. cov ops record all that data without uncloaking). 5 ppl would want more than just slow down speed up, they'd want <insert many camera/recording functions here>... if you have a program for viewing these in place these shouldn't be hard and ccp could make a fair few good ones. 6 it's sorta 1-4 and 5 combined.
Most likely you will find a few players saying stuff like this... come up with some rebutles: - ccp should spend more time fixing bugs/adding or improving game rather than adding out of game features - This is gonna encourage people to spend more time out of game and less time actually in game - something like this is only gonna be used by big alliances rather than the small average solo/small group people
Thank you for reading to bottom Typhado
