Been doing some lvl 3 agent missions and all of a sudden i had to kill a loane moa and transport ship.. easy i thought but then was spammed by a limitless suppliy of cruise missiles at quick sucession from the moa's limitless missile banks and befor i new it i was floating around in a shiny new pod.. my cruise missiles did hardly any damage to the said moa wheras my shields were down after 3 hits, with shield hardners on.. i was just wondering is it actually possible to kill those things in a cruiser or do i need a fully armed battleship?

I have killed one, and been killed by one flying a vexor with dual mwd's and a medium cap extender, 4xdual 150 mm rails with AM and a combo of heavy and hammerhead drones. No shield booster, but a medium armor rep in low.
I simple used bursts of the mwd's to move me from 60-70 km to up close at 10 km when he had fired his string of 8 cruise. As long as they are flying he won't fire anymore. So be prepared to move when they start popping from age.
Carry some cheap small drones and deploy them close to him, and he will start engaging them instead.
Now when i get two of them and the transport i usually just pop them with the megathron, as it's way faster than a drawn out fight.
Since you don't say which cruiser you fly, but a Caracal with cruise/torps or a Moa with rails+launchers should be able to take them out. If you can, i'd suggest fitting two thermal hardeners, and all capacitor power relays in low or a cap battery and a ****load of charges.
A thorax with 3 neutrons and 2 micro smartbombs should be able to hump his leg fairly well also. mwd, shield booster and hardener + 5 cap power relays in low

A moa with 2 standard launchers and defenders will let you close with little damage. And he does stop firing cruise when you get close.
Then let the 4 railgun with thorium or AM love, plus your drones love begin. Blasters may also be an idea.
I tend to change my loadout depending on the mission. 6 gurista and a named pirate? Blasters. Get in close and hammer em.....not so far to go to pick up the pods. 4 35k pirates plus the thief. Railguns and heavy missiles, hit em at long range and change ammo when you get closer.
There isnt a perfect setup for all missions (or if there is could someone PLEASE tell me what it is) half the fun is finding this out.
Thank god for inferno's and navy vexors. Certainly woke me up.
Roids are a Menece I tell you, hunt then down I say, hunt them down!!

Wait till you get the mission with 2 of these infernos and a transport - now that is a test. Basically they are firing torpedoes at you, the trick is to warp to 60k and off load a couple of volleyes of cruise at one of them and then warp to Sun - repeat as desired.
I use a Moa with 2*heavy launchers and 4*250, with a few other bits and bobs that give me 4200 hp.
It isn't the easiest mission, but quite doable

Edited by: Zoneh on 29/04/2004 08:19:08 I'm getting my first lvl3 agent for Caldari NAvy soon. So is this good conf for my caracal:
5x Arbalest or Malkuth Heavy Launchers ( i will see if i will get 25mil for the Arbalest launchers.. :P) with cruise missles Paradie and Cataclysm med: 1x CL5 Med Shild Booster 1x Shield Amp 2x Thermal Shield Hardner low: 2x Cap Relay
Should I change CL5 Med SB for a TL2 Med SB and replace AMP with Cap Battery?

Ahhh, Infernos, a favorite of mine. The key to this mission is using Thermal Hardeners, 2 of em, with that, you ought to be fine.
With that Caracal setting I'd reccomind trying a 100mn AB instead of that shield amp, about the same speed as a 10mn MWD, but without the penalties, and a Caracal with all launchers fitted should have more than enough powergrid to fit one. If you've got cruise missiles, use em, if you've got defenders, use em. It seems to me that torpedos are horrible against these guys.

I used a Moa with 4x 250mm rails (AM ammo), 2 smartbombs, a thermal hardener, and a med. shield booster.
Came in at "optimal" range, unloaded with all 4 railguns, and used the smartbombs to knock down "most" of the cruise missiles, and the hardener / booster to keep shields up until it was dead, dead, DEAD.
BTW - From what I've seen, cruise missiles are *all* the Inferno has. Granted, it spams them out at an ungodly rate, though.

Oh come now...
The first time I fought an Inferno in my Moa (I'd used a Blasterthron before) I didn't even notice he was firing cruise until I looked at my log after I'd killed him.
If you have one thermal hardener the Cataclysms do about 180 damage, right? You should have about 1000 shields on that Moa, you'll have plenty of time to kill him even if you don't shield boost.
Besides, you only need one standard launcher with Defenders to stop the missile spam, he fires them one at a time, unlike the truly evil Raven rats.

I have torp skill already but not yet cruise (8 days for Missile Launcher Op.), so I'm holding off on Lvl3 simply because of these horror stories about Guristas Infernos.
If I have a Caracal and a Moa (Moa has more shield tanking than Caracal), which would do the trick? I have about 1700 shields on my Moa, but only 1500 on the Caracal. On the other hand, when I get cruise I will have 5 launchers on the Caracal vs. the two on my Moa.
And will a single thermal hardener not pull it off?

I had this nice mission 2 weeks ago, not knowing what a Guristas Inferno is, because I haven't done much missions for Caldari Navy before. So I got there with my Thorax and left the place in a Pod. Came back with the Megathron to finish the mission and (much more important for me) to rescue what was left from the Thorax (4 compressed coil rails, each worth about 4 millions). But I made a bad mistake approaching to the can while fighting the Inferno's. One of their cm's must have destroyed the can

An easier way to get up close to them without having to use mwd at all is to jump to the 60km from them approach and approach 1. Fire 1 shot at from like 55k and turn around. It starts chasing me and i wait till its about 30km or until im at half shield then u can jump out. Next u jump in at 15k and u will basically be right untop of it.

Yeah the single inferno is a fun mission. Haven't had the dual yet so can't say anything about that. I did the mission in an Omen with 2 smartbombs on autorepeat. That killed most of the cruises, and I could boost enough to not worry about armor to much. I just used heavy beams to take him out, of course this will be harder once they nerf the cap relays. I'd use one thermal hardener and one shield boost amp instead of two hardeners. Combined with a named or tech II booster you will be able to take more dmg over time with this setup than with two hardeners.
Then there is also armor tanking, perhaps with a 1600mm if you can squeeze it on with the rest of the stuff.

basically the inferno is one bad azz moa set up with dual launchers and they only use cruise missles.
the inferno is not your normal run of the mill cruiser kill mission.
they stack up them cruise missles and they get to you fast not to mention so does the ship if you sit and fight.
if you go in with a MWD your just asking to be podded
if your doing this mission in cruiser........you may not get podded but you will definitely loose shields minimal, more likely it will be how much hull damage will i sustain.
the inferno mission alos comes in dual infernos and transp0ort ship.
if you get a dual.......don't even bother in a cruiser......definite podding.
best defense on them missles is to use nothing but defenders
ultimately........use a battleship or team up witha corp mate.

Im sure if you go in with 2 thermal hardners you could do a 2 inferno mission in a lvl 3 cruiser. Youll need a shield booster and MWD both, so it rules out thorax though. -------

Use mines... i'm doing the dual inferno in a caracal with mwd, med shield booster, 1 thermal but 2 mine launchers and the other launchers with thunder and later havoc. shield never went down below 40% since 80% of the cruise didn't even hit me.
so that's my recommendation to those without cruise missle skill yet and fly in a cruiser.

I did the 2 Infernos + Transport with my Moa. Used 4 250mm , heavy ammo, shield boost amp, med SB II, 2x Therm, 3 cap pwr relays, 2 standard launcher. The Infernos are the only ones that force me to change my fitting.
