For the longest while I only flew Gallente ships, with some Minmatar T2 frigates on the side. Then I switched from a Megathron to a Tempest and was just like "you gotta be kidding me, this thing handles like a ship half its size, why didn't I try this sooner?" Since then I've flown Minmatar cruisers (including T2) and battlecruisers with much greater frequency. The falloff and high rate of fire from projectile turrets is also good stuff tbh.
Then I got into a Drake, my first Caldari ship bigger than a Destroyer. Caldari ships handle like things twice their size. Reliance on shields and long range attacks means crappy engine performance I suppose. Yuck.

I fly min ships for hauling (manmoth) and salvage (Hurricane), basicly all my janitorial duties.
I fly Gal for mission isk, Amarr for sunday best dress up occasions, and Cal for EWar fleet ops.

Rifter for life, for a frig it can really own. I stopped all caldari training on my alt just to train min frig to 5 along with guns to 5 just so i could swoop in on enemies machine guns blazing.
I love the sound so much i tend to start firing before i actually get into range. the sounds that 3 autocannons make is just awesome

It's the Gallente ships that are ugly (with a few exceptions). Most Minmatar ships are sexy in the extreme!!!

Heh, I was just about to post that Minmatar ships are like Mad Max cars. Take a standard car, strip it all out of anything that adds mass, pump up the engine, add some Nitrous Oxide injection. That's the Minmatar ship ethos.

What really happened is that one day back when the four races were getting back on their feet with space travel and what not a group of Minmatar scouts came across an ancient recording device with lots of prerecorded media.
The videos while primative seemed to show people laughing and smiling while working hard to build machines out of piles of scrap while some crazy man in strange clothes ran around screaming about how much time was left.
All of Minmatar society found it very enjoyable to watch so in honour of this ancient Terran ritual started building their own ships in the same way.
This also lead to the Amarr getting annoyed and enslaving the Minmatar since all they found were reruns of Eastenders which was enought to make everyone on Amarr Prime depressed and rather bitter about the whole thing as well as telling people to "go on gettar out my pub" at random intervals.

Generally speaking, the statistics convey that Minmatar pilots are more dedicated and loyal to their race than any other race in EVE. I don't mean that from a roleplay perspective, naturally, I am referring to the phenomena "Pride in Rust".
There's just something about flying the embodiment of a flying scrapheap, I guess.

I cross trained minmatar for the PVP aspect, and the fact that I reckon the Rifter hull ships are some of the best lookin' frigates in the game, and the Hurricane takes the prize for most awesome Battlecruiser.
They may look rusty, but they're tough as hell, and a Hurricane with a full compliment of Projectile turrets firing in chain sounds awesome.

Me thinks it was not the OP's intent to comment on the purty-ness of the Mini race, but how our ships have a unique feeling to them. Our speed and agility give our ships this unique quality.
Stuff a couple extra i-stabs, engine mods and nanos on them and it's all engagement range control FTW.
The 'real' Minmatar rocks emotion inducing time comes more so when you fly a Tyhoon with Phat skills in the three T2 weapon types of Drones, guns and missles. Skill heavy? Yes, but Oooooh BABY! when you finally get there.

It's in proportion to the ship performance itself. And you probably didn't try it because you weren't high as a kite.

Good? High rof combined with the puny cargo holds combined with 3 different ammo means you have far less amount of cap boosters and that you'll go through ammo like crazy.
Falloff bonus? Nerfed thanks to heat in a major way. Nastily affected by that TD change.

All the other races have very predictable looks to them, Shiney and manufactured looking. While our race looks more artsy as if we crafted it with music instead of machines

When I had to decided which race I wanted to play for Eve I was looking at all possible ships ( especially http://dl.eve-files.com/media/0606/EVE_ships_Titan.jpg ) as well a lot of other pictures and I just fell in love with the cyclone and the other hull variants. It was just love on first sight :) ... |

Well coz no-one is sticking up for caldari (no mean feat) i may as well stick my hand for it.
At firts i thought cal ships looked the best, was the only reason i chose them, then i saw ships like the caracal and raven and said omg i want to be a reformed ammarian. But as you start to fly and train ships like the onyx and scorp, u get this strange love for them.
when i first saw the onyx i was like hell no but now i really love the way it looks, its engine thing on the side looks like a pod racer, and its head like a preying mantis, basically dont mees with this it says, passive shiled tanks ROCK which is why i love the nighthawk so much, who cares bout dps when u can tank any mofo who is stupid enough to aggro

I fly minnies because I love shooting real guns, not pew pew guns. I do like the Reaveresque aesthetics of the ships even if a few of them look like they might fall apart if they go too fast.

General rule of thumb for most ships, with exception to a few Caldari ships. The uglier the ship, the better it tends to perform - the prettier the ship, the crappier it is.
Ruppy: ugly as HELL, but a good ship.
Omen: sleek looking thing, but what's the point when you can use a Maller (which also happens to be semi-hideous)
