personally i think they should just leave it as it is. For a game of such high standard any adaptation will be sub standard. It was an awesome game, with an awesome twist in the story. They can only ruin it

With John Logan writing the screenplay, I think this one might have a chance.
At least, I'd rather have Verbinski and Logan doing this than Uwe Boll.

the Resident Evil movies are some of the best game based movies I have ever seen (with possible exeption of the third movie).
and Bioshock movie? it got a lot of potential, could become a great movie

well movies made after games are usually pretty fail. Still might be good though. Maybe... :)

Well, the film makers do have a fairly solid base to work with. Bioshock may be a game, but while playing it, I always thought how great this would be made into a movie.
However, the most powerful part of the game for me was
SPOILER!!
. . . . . . when you got to Ryan's office and suddenly you lost all control over what your character was doing. Damned startling. I know the game is linear, so any feeling of freedom you have is merely an illusion - but having it taken away like that was the most startled I've been playing a game for a long time.
. . . .
SPOILER!!!
I very much doubt they can convey that over a film, where the viewer has no control over the protagonist anyway.
Also, I very much hope they remove some of the more annoying parts of the game. I'm thinking of the endless search for that last bottle of enzyme... --------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope it is made well. The only videogame movie I've liked was Silent Hill.

Yes, yes and more yes. You sir, are a good person. The game rocked, and to try to make it into a movie, will just kill the games awesomeness, in my opinion.
Also, if you were to play System Shock 2, you'd have seen the twist coming. :x ------------------ Hey look, a link!

I don't really care if they make a crap movie out of it. Bioshock sucked. It was short and the gameplay was unintuitive. The whole 'I need to go this way..oh look, a large piece of rubble has falledn down and is now blocking the path. Now I msut take the extra long way' routine was quite tedious. Also, it was way too easy to be scary.
The only good thing it has going for it is the atmosphere.

I couldn't stand the gameplay of Bioshock, but I liked the story. Mebbe the film will be good?...
I mean, not all videogame-film conversions fail. Resident Evil was quite good imo, if nothing like the games whatsoever ...
though i'd rather see a STALKER film... but I really really doubt they could get the atmosphere even close to what it was like in the game for that ... ...

Oh cmon! What I'm saying isn't so unreasonable! Would you pay for a cinema ticket to see a film that was half utter *******s and half good? This isn't unreasonable. I play games that are fun ALL THE WAY THROUGH!
...Totally unrelated but yes, I do get bored easily, and it is hell.

Well, slow-paced shooters which rely on ambience and story isn't for everyone.
Personally I loved the game, but I loved it because of the story and the atmosphere. If you're looking for action then Half-life, Max Payne and F.E.A.R. had way better shoot outs thanks to AI and a different goal when it came to level design. Bioshocks levels on the other hand felt very real. Like you were walking in an actual functional city (well, functional at some point before it became run down and overrun with deranged psychos high on body-altering plasmids) and not a shoot-out arena. ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. I don't like movies based on games because the gamers expect the movie to be like a game in presentation instead of a movie. The end result is a bomb of a movie with half the audience having not played the game and thus not getting it and the other half being the ones that did play the game and hate the movie because it's not like the game at all. Knowing the trend in the game -> movie industry (if you can call it that) is the route of a survival-horror route with a bit of action and maybe a bit of boobies with a bland or simplified story with 2-dimensional characters. In other words, a horrible movie.
See: Doom, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Max Payne, Final Fantasy (pick one, AC or TSW)and dare I forget House of the Dead. But seriously, more people should have some type of spacer in their sigs to show it's not part of the post. |

Hey, I liked the Silent Hill movie, but yeah the others where crap. I never saw Max Payne so I can't comment on that. --- My cat Putter approves of this post. Be a Ninja! You know you want too: http://www.animecubed.com/billy/?Kravick |

Well. If someone is eventually going to break the "Game->Movie=smelly cheese" (sometimes likable smelly cheese, such as Mortal Kombat, but still smelly cheese) formula it's going to be Gore Verbinski and John Logan. I mean, Oscar nominated screenplay writer and the man that brought us Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl (a movie that was nominated for 5 oscars and is based on a freaking theme park ride!?)? ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it.
