Again... never had a problem with steam offline.... was on the train back to uni about a month ago (Virgin trains with power slots ftw), loaded up Audiosurf and Defcon in offline mode with no problem what so ever, and no i didnt "switch to offline mode" when i was connected to the net earlier.....
the only way I get my games to work is if I load up the game while I'm online and then just don't power down the laptop. Then I can play it anywhere, I just need that initial boot up. My little bro taught me that trick since he has to do the same thing.

Offline steam has NEVER worked correctly for me The only way that i've ever had offline work is to go ONLINE and change it to offline mode WHILE IT IS CONNECTED, starting steam without an active connection has always just told me to **** off.

I remember using Steam back in the days of the original HL, CS, and all those original mods. Sucked so very very bad I've never used it since. I'm sure its far better now, but my experience is already well and truly tainted... ------

I do like it though for the fact that I've got it on 2 machines and it makes it easy to load the same game to both.
Although highly unlikely I wonder what would happen if Steam ever went out of business? would it's customers all lose out?

If steam went out of business it would mean Valve went out of business, which would mean you'd be bootlegging and modifying software to run all your multiplayer games anyway. But seriously, more people should have some type of spacer in their sigs to show it's not part of the post. |

Originally by: LaVista Vista Ah, I remember when steam launched with Counterstrike 1.7.
It was hilarious watching all the geeks cry "BRING CS 1.6 BACK, STEAM SUX0R"
i thought that was the 1.5 -> 1.6 move when steam came out and replaced won

Oh and also the DLing while playing this is awesome, was over at a mate ages ago trying to reinstall Dark Messiah off the disc. The Disc had gotten scratched somehow so was failing at some point but because he had registered his code with steam he could DL it.
Because of the way the source engine/steam is setup we were able to start playing DM within about 15-20mins of starting the download! great Stuff
