Wow. While I knew the end might be near, I didn't it was today.
Triumvirate has a relatively short but brilliant space-holding history to be proud of. It was manned by a core of some of the very best pilots and FCs in EVE. I watched what Triumvirate did in building itself. It seemed to be onto something. Could they succeed where so many have failed in finding the right mix in creating, dare I say it--- a BoB-like entity? When I say that, I'm talking about a rare mix of military power, logistical prowess and will.
Speaking as a neighbor and frequent observer of TRI in action, I'd say it broke under the weight of its own successes. While TRI was a good group, the TRIWagon is what did it in. The people who flocked to TRI as it built its name through various successes were, in the end, not the type of people upon whom a space-holding alliance can be built. Fickle seekers and partakers of the Flavor of the Month.
Taking space is one thing and I'd say TRI did it pretty well. Holding space and all the things that go along with it are not what TRI was or wanted to be about. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that it was something that they gave a shot and found not to be to their liking. There is certainly much to not like.
An organization's goals and the asipirations/mindset of its people need to be aligned. It needs to be staffed by the type of people it takes to execute long term plans meet those goals. I think in Triumvirate's case, that was once true. However, when it became a space-holding alliance, I believe these two thing became increasingly divergent--- to the point that everly little thing that occurred became huge drama.
I don't know everything about how TRI worked internally. I don't know DORM very well. I can see from afar that they did the kind of work the rest of TRI probably had no interest in and got given a ration of crap for it. Granted...perhaps the ISK they were making made it worth the abuse they took from their alliance mates. I just know what it kind of effort it takes to maintain sovereignty over a a small, crappy region like Tribute. TRI held sway over more. People you can trust who do that kind of work are worth their weight in gold, if you want to be a space-holding alliance.
When I heard that recording a few weeks back that had that one guy...Dreamora or somesuch...berating a polite and level-headed DORM guy, I was thinking to myself, "If those beliefs and that kind of behavior are pervasive in TRI, its going to end soon and it won't be pretty."
Still, I felt that even if it ended, it wouldn't end until someone wrested Deklein from TRI's cold, dead hands. The end seems to have come much quicker than that. The aftermath of this announcement should prove interesting.

Sorry to see Tri close down, but much respect to all the folks who made it happen. It was watching Tri roaming gangs rip people apart that got me interested in nano. And I thought Dark put it very well in an Eve interview when he said "surround yourself with enemies" as the way to grow an alliance of effective pvpers. You could always count on Tri to bring it.
Its been a pleasure flying with you and against you Tri.

Tri was a good alliance and no doubt some of the most fun I have ever had in eve, the game has lost its spark completely with me now hence why touchvill (<3) is forwarding this.
Dark you've been a great leader, and brought the fights.
Tri will be remembered for the right reasons for sure

Tri were the last red group in the north worth there weight. They had always been there to fight with, hide from ect ect. What the hell are we going to do now?? Its like waking up and the pain you have for the past year in your leg has goneà its good its not hurting anymore but well IÆll be damned I miss it :(

I'm truely proud and honoured to have been there at the beginning of this alliance and I'm here at it's end.
We achieved more than we could possibly have hoped for in the 2 years we were out there pew-pewing, but to be honest there were *****s beginning in the alliance even as long back as last year when we were fighting YouWhat, slowly but surely they grew with no real way to fix them without risking tearing the alliance apart.
When Dark called a meeting tonight with Doom members, there was sadness that it'd come to this but also a reluctant acceptance that it was the right choice, to carry on any longer would hurt Doom (and no doubt other corps would have the same problem) and 2 months later Tri would still have fallen and taken some corps with it, at least this way all the member corps will walk away intact.
I feel sorry though for the PVP'ers of the North, I can see the North slipping back into it's old way before we came along, everyone nap'd with each other, no big battles, no conflict, in other words stagnancy.
Good luck to every Tri member, pleasure flying with you.
