A simple question for all the noobs like me just approaching the world of Nano-Hacs/Recons: which hacs/recons are effective when nanoed and which ones of those requires Snakes to work properly ?
Amarr : Sac, Curse, Zealot... all nanoable from what I hear; snakes required ? Caldari: Cerb ? Gallente: Ishtar ? Minmatar : Vaga, Rapier, Huginn... anything else ? are snakes required for those ?
I think this will really help noobs to choose to stick to other kinds of ship or not... because really snakes are too expensive for a noob that want to pvp as soon as possible.
Also, it would really great if an expert pilot could write down a NANO-GUIDE which covers this and other concerns about nano-ships; someone says nanos are getting nerfed others say no... I don't see this happening, no devs spoke about that since ages...

Let's put it this way: You can effectively fly all the ships you mentioned in a nano-setup, however, Snakes will greatly improve it's performance, but also the risk.
A Cerb might be slow without snakes, but even with them, it can still be caught by an unsnaked Vagabond for instance, or neuted down with a Curse.
Much like Polycarbs, they are very effective but cost a lot more than Aux. Thrusters. Just like MWD IIs are better than MWD Is. You can keep downgrading until you can only fly 1km/s with the ships you mentioned. They can still be effective, but just much less so than the fully deadspace-fitted version with snakes.
I hope this helps somehow.

Ok, thx for the replies... so which ship you consider to be a good start off ? ( once the skills are set of course).
I was thinking to going the amar nano line since it seems to be the most offering at the moment, having 3 wonderful ships ( aye also minnmatar but let s be honest: the look doesn't even compare ).
I know about polys and that's exactly the reason of my asking: poly+hac+fitting is near 300 damn milions and if I'm not even safe from drones/missiles I would not fly it without snakes... and therefore not fly it at all.

snakes isnt needed for nano ships at all, and there is actually not that many ppl flying around with snakes plugged in.
but they do improve the speed a lot and are really nice if you can afford to loose them. just remember that all it takes is a huginn/rapier and a dictor to make you loose them

Do yourself a favour and try the snakes + ship on SiSi (test server) befor buying them here. At the very least you can try out the different ships without risk.

Er.... you do know a full set will set you back about 2.7bil.... not mentioning the hardwires that individually cost 150mil each, and no ones even mentioning shaq's cool 750mil (last looked.. seen that one at 1.2bil before)
I suggest you start small... fly inties to get used to the speed increase you get from the hardwires, with the 3% ones costing around 20mil a shot, and hyper nav for 5% increase only costing 15mil. Then when you understand the principles of orbiting, approach, and manual flying... keeping range to diving in for fast gank.... knowing the other guys standard fittings to make very quick calls.... an inty is cheap! plus with the simple hardwares you can get your going to be going 10k/s with your speed skills in progressive training.
Not to put you off from Nano Hacs.... but its a very expensive and real big smack in the face if you loose your snakes due to a lag spike and the feeling of invicibility!
BTW, i have been flying inties for the last 8 months training my skills in prep for nanohac wetdream land.... and have had one epic time... going to be sad leaving my ares of doom for a nanohac.
During the inties training days, you will be able to get your skills up enough to not have to worry about using snakes in nanohacs too! If i wanted to, i could get my 'new vaga up to 19k/s with snakes... but i am flying it without snakes for now, cause you need to get use to a ship before going all out.
My fav nanohac ship tbh is a rapier.... force recon nano'd!! you can cloak, and get great speed.... Ishtar's are evil too... get up to 8k/s iirc. As a trained inty pilot, i know unless the hac is going above 6k i can perma hold him untill a web is required. a hac up to 8k, its going to be fun. But i have had trouble holding vagahacs who go around 4k due to their piloting skills. AND THATS the point.... get your fly skills up with speed before moving on to hacs.
Go Low grade too..... if you can really afford a set of highgrades and your a noob still, then when you get podded in your lowgrade set, get a highgrade... cause you will at one time get podded!! its all part of that eve learning curve.

Thx for the reply, yea i can already pilot crows and raptors but I really don't like the low dps so I'm switching to a ranis or a crusader.
The fact I would like to clarify is: I have not the slightest intention of buying snakes! Not now, not tomorrow... n e v e r. The cause is that I'm a heavily casual player and it will be hard for me even to replace polycarbed t2 beatius and fitting.
Hence my question: which nano hac/recon are really good even without a damned snake set ?

Without snakes i would say rapier/vaga/curse. This is because rapier and curse will put off any nano hac, and be able to seriously hurt it. Rapier gets the added bonus of the cloak. Then vaga is probably the fastest nanohac without snakes and stuff.

The answer to your question is a very easy one.
If you've enough ISK to easily recover from the loss, then the 2.5 Billion won't hurt you.
If you've just managed to get those ISK together, then you're better off buying some more ships and stuff.
And I would'nt be surprised, if the nanoHAC era comes to an end very soon, as there's rumors of Overdrives, Nanofibers, iStabs, Polys and Aux Thrusters stacking with each other after the next patch. .
