I tried my hand at her and I know I'm not ready for her it will take me an other 8 months or so to get the skills I'll need and until then she'll stay were she is... now for the capital jump drive that will be gone tonight and I'll go back to high sec with my Megathron. I'll learn about the Carrier on the test server so when my skills are up to par I'll go get her... hopefully by then the corp will be biger and we'll have some allies to help us out.

As for people locating me for an easy kill... I'm not in the station that the Carrier is in so at best they'll get to kill me in a shuttle with +3 implants. I've been poded so many time I have 4 sets of implants at my home station. Splat me on your ship no big deal... I use shuttles to run around in and get stuff for ships and to pick up ships so.... have fun.

Just a quick heads up, Carrier in low sec will act like a maganet and attract any pirate from 30 jumps away. Best to avoid capital ships till you are used to living in low sec and how to survive in low sec.
Also low sec ore is currently worse than high sec ore, so best not mining there either.
So true. Infact I am sending one of my alts to Sir Algorn's location to keep any eye on you. Dunno why, when we hear "carrier" and "low sec belt" in one, we get very exited. Very very very exited.
Get a battleship or a falcon. If pirates engage you, atleast you can save the miners. ______________________________________________________________

Train up for falcon with cov ops cloak. Use range rigs as well so you can ECM 200-250km+ away. Scout your miners in since you can warp around while cloaked if you use a cov ops cloak. Fit a pile of Jammers and mwd 200-250km+ away from your miners and cloak. If your miners get attacked, align while ECMing the attackers so your miners can get out.
Means you can sell your carrier and do a better job defending your miners while they warp out.
That is the only sensible solution to protecting your miners and a much cheaper investment --

I have a Megathron in high sec and that's were she'll stay, I lost one in high sec when I was new to the ship. A tech 2 frigate with tech 2 fittings suckered my into a fight, I lost the ship then he poded me. I don't fall for that any more cytomatrix so...
Lord WarATron sounds like a good idea. For now I'll stay in high sec and the Carrier will stay were she is until a later date.

Edited by: Sir Algorn on 14/05/2008 18:06:04 Ok what the f*** does that mean? I pay for the game I'm not paying money for a ship that's just dumb. Why do you think we mine... it boring to the max but it gives us the ISK to try new ships. So we (I) made a mistake with the Carrier it's still in our inventory and I'll learn how to use it.

Falcon helps you break the tacklers lock and let your buddies escape. Arazu/lachesis affect locking range. But it wont work if the pirates are really close to your miner buddies(or people who you are trying to save). Thats why falcon is better. Falcon can jam multiple targets. Arazu cant damp more than 2 ships effectively.
Edit: Also its a good idea to get an alt capable of fly falcon and using ew, when flying your carrier. I know you said you are not flying carrier for a while. But keep this in mind, in future when you start flying your carrier, get a falcon alt. Damps are not that effective atm. And if you get tackled by 1 or two tacklers, you can jam them and your carrier and get away.
And you cant jump right after undocking. You need to wait 20seconds before you can jump. Just like you cant dock soon after jumping into a system. You have to 20seconds before docking. Cheers. ______________________________________________________________

I don't want to pay for two accounts so when I do start using the Carrier I'll have to have a corp member in a Falcon... Oh well...

In addition to what is said by the guy above, think safety.
You are 200km away from your buddies(and any other objects) and your buddies are mining and you are cloaked. Pirates come in and manage to scramble them. You uncloak and align to a safe spot. As you start jamming the hostiles, their locks break and they cannot relock for 20 seconds. Your miners all warp out, you, being 200-250km way, can also instawarp out and cloak once coast is clear.
Thats why falcon and not gallente recons. You said you are not a pvp pilot so rather than focus on "Soldier" style stuff, you can focus on EW to protect your corpmates. You wont kill but thats ok, your objective is to protect the miners. --

What about a cloaked fully loaded Ishtar with heavy drones?

That would be able to kill one or two attackers, but it won't help your buddies in mining ships get away, especially if you get attacked by a gang. The whole idea behind the EWar ship as mining support is to break the attacker's target lock on your miners so they can warp off. This is why the Falcon was suggested as it is the best at doing this, bar none. You won't actually kill anyone who attacks you, but you should be able to get away fairly safely.
And compared to the length of time to train for a carrier, a Falcon is a fairly short train, even for a largely Gallente character. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

Mining ships dont last very long under fire, especially its a tech2 cruiser or something bigger. Imo using an ishtar for protecting miners in low sec is not that easy/practicable. Relies on too many variables. If the pirate is in a tech2 bc or a bs, you might not able to kill him before he kills the miner. But with a falcon, all you have to do is jam that ship. Falcon works very well against all sorts of ships. Cloaked ishtar will take more time just to lock the pirate. So thats 30 seconds less time you have to save your miner. I would go with a falcon.
edit: damn you beat me to it. ______________________________________________________________

Edited by: Sir Algorn on 14/05/2008 18:56:28 I was just asking because it will take me 4 to 8 months to train up the skills for a falcon because I only have Caldari Frigate leval 1, it would only take a month or so for the Gallente ships.

You dont need frigate lvl5. just lvl4 and caldari cruiser lvl5. And some electronic skills. ______________________________________________________________

Just in case you do not know, on top of what others have said, Falcon has range bonus to ECM. So if you were thinking ECM Ishtar, you just wont have the ECM power or range to stop people attacking your miners.... or you! --

Thanks... I just don't do the PVP stuff. I was in a corp that did and I was fine running lvl 3 and 4 missions with them then they moved to 0 space and started a war with another corp. I lost the tech 2 Megathron I got through the corp got poded, so I left the corp.

Alliance 0.0 is much safer than lowsec. You are ready for it - just negotiate a rental deal with a major alliance. You'll have intel channels to warn you of incoming hostiles, and a lot of space will be very quiet anyway.
Lowsec is nasty, atm the only real reason to be is for PVP, so if people see a carrier sitting in a belt, you're going to attract attention.

Look into a Eos. Gal Command ship. Takes like there is no tomorrow, put on gang warfare to boost your miners, as well as put blaster on the girl. You have have very high DPS and very high tank ability. Put in some extra drones to mess with their tracking or speed if they are the normal close range damage specialists.
This helps miners mine, good protection for them and yourself, to boot you can also take them down and out with good chance to just make them scared to attack you again.

0.0 is mostly patrolled by the Alliance occupuying that specific part of 0.0.
Low-sec 0.4-0.1 is mostly occupied by pirates and not well organised and/or small alliances.
That's why you will find more safety in 0.0 with a well organised alliance because you are surrounded by friends appart from the occasional wartarget or ganking squad.
