Well I hope this is a good place to vent! I just spent the last 8 months training and doing missions so I could get into a Carrier only to find out that I need a Jump Drive as well. So to my surprise when I bought my Thanatos tadaaaa... no Jump Drives in system, I found one 5 jumps away and bought it. Now comes the fun part I can't get to the drive with the Carrier and I can't transport the jump drive (10,000 m3) either. So what possessed them to build Carriers in systems that don't offer Jump Drives in the system... I've spent time and over a Billion ISK on this only to have no way to use them. To say the least I'm not verry happy at this point.

EDIT:(Out of character: Jump Drive operation is a skill, the Jump Drive is used to build the ships that use them.)
EDIT2: Howcome you didn't know this? Bought your character much? And the ISK for the carrier?

Eh? Carriers, like all jump capable ships, have their jump drives built in. You dont need a separate module on YOUR ship to jump. You do need a friend with a cynosural field generator, obviously, but thats not 10 000m3. And you dont need to go get it, because you cant fit it on your carrier. _______________________________________________ Mercenary Forces |

You don't actually FIT a jump drive to your ship, you just need to buy the Jump Drive Operation skill and train it up.

Edited by: Sir Algorn on 14/05/2008 14:49:08 Well to start you have to have the Jump Drive Operation skill to get into the Carrier, but I couldn't find any info on how to use it. Another player told me I needed a Capital Jump Drive to jump. I have the fuel for it but I can't find any place to put it.
Now for the people that think I bought this character... you know where you can put that idea.... Just because I don't know how to use a ship I've never used before doesn't mean I bought the character or that I'm incompetent. Isn't this the place that we are supposed to come if we need help? Some people don't seem to think so and for them they can jump into space in the nude and freeze to death!!!!!

You need two characters to make a capital jump between systems. One that sits in the carrier and other that creates the jump beacon (cyno field). Then the carrier can jump to that cyno person (need to be in gang). You alone in a carrier = get familiar with your current system :)

Ok so not meant as flame,
When you are gonna fly such an expensive ship with all those skills involved it's good to do a LOT of read up before you actually are able to fly the ship.So many ways to fit it and use it.For example i'm training for a rorqual.I started about 1.5 month ago and have a good 2 months at least to go to be able to fly it decently.I've started searching a few weeks back for more info and still every day i search the forums for new info on how to fit/use the ship to it's best potential.Actually i came here again to these forums to check up on new rorqual topics.

Edited by: Riho on 14/05/2008 14:55:55 ok.. ill try and explain abit while i laugh my ass off :P sry.. but this is the best thing iv read all day.
so you are a carebear who wanted a carrier.... what you going to use it for?? missioning :P ?
ok... back on topic.. enough flames.
to jump a carrier you need 2 characters. they need to be in a gang.
first character is in the carrier, second one in any ship that can fit a cynosural(whatever its called) field generator.
the char whit the cyno generator goes to the system you want to go whit the carrier and makes a cyno field whit the generator... this character cant move now for 10 minutes (or 5 if hes in a recon ship)
then the carrier character right clicks the other character and chooses jump to... voila... you arrive at the cyno field.
but before you do any jumping... check this site out... you can see if you can make the distance whit your skills in one go or you need to make stops Jump planner site
to generate the cyno field... the character whit the generator needs Liquid Ozone you need fuel aswel in your cargo hold (cant remember what type the thanatos needed... i havent used that ship for god knows how long)
if you are a mission running carebear(sorry... but you seem like that).. sell the ship and buy something else. a carrier is a PvP ship that support your fleet. it has awesome remote logistics that are vital to the gang and ok damage from fighters.
now some advice:
if you want to get to places whit your carrier you NEED to train... yes NEED, these skills Jump drive Operation 5 Jump Fuel Conservation 4 Jump Drive Calibration 4 (thats minimum .. get it 5)
Originally by: Sir Algorn So there's no way to jump with this ship without help?
Carrier is not a SOLO ship... carrier is not a DUO ship... carrier is a fleet ship. because a solo carrer will be owned by a small gang really fast. ---------------------------------- Yes... this is my main. Extreme Troll Slayer...

I found this thread funny. However, I think that assuming the OP is not trolling, that CCP could put a bit more documentation in this game.

OK guys I'm looking for help... not for players that would like to blast my ship to hell. I not do PVP and I've learned about each ship I've used on my own so get of my back. There's a learning curve with every ship and even more of one when you do it your self...

if you DONT pvp... you DONT need a carrier... sell it.
Carrier is a pure PVP ship... or a crappy 0.0 hauler :P but nothing else.
sell it or fail :P
tbh sell it and train for a Kronos or something and buy that and mission some more :P ---------------------------------- Yes... this is my main. Extreme Troll Slayer...

Covering miners in a carrier is not the best way.Hell a few bs's would even give more support for that then what you are planning now. Better to go for a rorqual and 'rent' space in 0.0 if it's for minerals/mining.I can guarantee that if you use it for the purpose you stated , you'll be back on the forums in no time screaming bout how fast your carrier went down and that CCP nerfed the ship etc.
Like others said it's a fleet ship - a SUPPORT ship.
The only thing usable in the way you say for your carrier is to use it PURELY as a cheap jump freighter. That i could understand.
And most in here are giving you advice btw but you seem a bit stubborn imho.

Edited by: Sir Algorn on 14/05/2008 15:30:31 Well the problem is that we only have 4 members I'm the only fighter and the only one that covers them while mining and salvaging. We're not ready for 0.0 but have tried .4 and the Carrier should be OK in that respect I'm not sure but I do know my Megathron gets beat up in low sec. covering them... I've lost 2 so far.
The only reason I have it in the first place is the other members of the corp. talked me into it. You have to understand we don't play every day and it's hard to get all of us on at the same time... we have to plan it all ahead of time being in different time zones. I've only been playing off and on for 2 years so compared to you guys I'm a newbie.

Getting yourself a BIG ship won't take the risk away.It probably will even attrackt a higher amount of pirates/enemies and then you will loose a FAR more expensive ship then the megathron. Now the question is : are the 0.4 minerals worth it to take that risk? It's allways your own choise of risk vs reward but in my opinion if you are a 4 man corp and 3 out of the 4 are miners i'd say you better not take that risk because it's a HUGE gamble. Then it's maybe better to search for a dead end system with a station in it and get to have the locals set you to bleu standing. You could then cover the only gate to see new people pop in before they are viewable in local and at the same time jump to the belt where your friends are mining to get those darn rats destroyed every half hour when they pop up again.

Just a quick heads up, Carrier in low sec will act like a maganet and attract any pirate from 30 jumps away. Best to avoid capital ships till you are used to living in low sec and how to survive in low sec.
Also low sec ore is currently worse than high sec ore, so best not mining there either. --

lol....
In the nicest way possible, sell the carrier mate.
You have no idea what your doing and your going to lose an expensive ship.
Your corp is to small to support a ship like this and even if you had a support fleet, carriers are not used to cover a mine...
GL with the sale ;)

I'm just tired of lossing ships so they can mine and salvage what I blast... It all comes out of the corp funds but it's still a pain even more so becaust I've been poded both times so I have to get new implants.
