I think I made about 60 jumps during my 2:nd day in EVE (hadn't played beta). I just went around, exploring ang getting myself familiar with the game.
To wait with going into unsecure space until you have a battleship and a head filled with expensive implants is THE WORST THING YOU CAN DO IN THE GAME. While that will make you earn money faster in the beginning, you'll loose huge ammounts of experience by doing so, and in the long run that will cost you hundreds of million isk.
Best advice to give new players is to get outside of safeplace as fast as possible and gain as much experience as possible, while you still fly a cheap frigate and it doesn't cost you millions to die.
ALRIGHT ALRIGHT ROFL!!
I already said i wasn't thinking when i made that post....
When i was a nub explorig this game, i didnt go into 0.0 untill i had a cruiser i think... But back then EVE was different and lower security empire space was REALLY dangerous. Heck 0.4 and below systems didnt even HAVE sentries..
So back then low sec empire space was alot like 0.0 and low sec was mostly where i was floating around. I didn't actually feel the need to travle to 0.0 untill a had a cruiser because then i could hunt predators and merauders in the great wildlands ^^
I guess its totally different now for a nub though. I suppose the gap between empire space and 0.0 must be HUGE.
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

I'm going to build up a force as large as the Empire in Star Wars, and then we'll build a death star in 0.0 and be all like...um...yeah, wanna mess with this?
Ha! Those pirates won't be laughing when they see the death star coming down on their aft! Oh and 500 BS's.

Tiny advice to your journey, NEVER ignore an invite to convo, and never be quiet if somebody asks for you in local.

Hehe, yea. It was more unsafe than that... My first real PvP was when we attacked another corp, which we were NOT in official war with, in 0.7 space (without losses) Concord and sentries has changed a little since then

Meowcat, getting into 0.0 is easy (too easy actually).
A tristan is an excellent travel frigate at that,
Fit this if you can: 2x MWD 1x small cap bettery
2x cap relay 1x micro auxiliary powercore.
Two MWD's get you past any blockade.

I went into PF-34whatever the other day, and only a few days I found out that maybe that was not a good place to go ...
Got to see some ebil NPC pirates in cruisers (eek!) and since I was playing in the middle of the night I almost fainted when I heard their commspeak doing "Look at"! They're much louder than frigs...
Got to see what Dark Ochre looks like in-space - they were tiny chunks but neat. Totally not what I expected, not 'roidy at all, more like crystals. Jaspet, I think, too. Of course I could mine uh, like 5 chunks of it due to its huge size
So I'll be doing it again soon, since I want to see MORE STUFF. I also far prefer Frigs - easy come, easy go - well, especially since I seem to be permanently floating around 100k since I keep trying out new ships and configs :D Not really interested in saving up
Have at it, insure, refresh the ol' clone, have fun. I know I did :) Oh yeah, ~450k skill points here too, mostly in all 4 Frigs and Navigation, of course...

I tried going to 0.0 space a couple nights ago. I went in a Tristan with a setup like what was suggested here, 2 mwds and some power modules. I lasted about 3 seconds.
As soon as I uncloaked in pf-346, I was locked and destroyed before my ship even lined up for warp. Then my pod was destroyed while I was typing in chat to see if I needed to pay a fee for a pass or a toll.
I don't plan on going back anytime soon if there's no way to even enter the region without immediately dying.

"Now way to even enter..." - Well, you were to slow when you entered. And pf-346 isn't the best place to start

How was I too slow? My ship was on Auto-pilot to go to FD-MLJ so I could dock at the station there, so what way of travelling out of a jumpgate is faster than the 3 seconds it took for my ship to be destroyed after coming out of cloak?
And where's a better place to enter besides pf-346? It's the only place I can find nearby and I don't play 15 hours at a time, so I don't really want to spend the 3 or 4 hours I have to play warping across the universe just to die the second I enter a "better" 0.0 entry system.
I'm starting to not even really see a point to all of this. There's no way for new players like me to catch up to the people with 15 million skillpoints who do nothing all day but sit at gates making sure nobody can enter 0.0 space.

It's impossible for me to answer what you did wrong since I can't know HOW you were killed. But as you were on autopilot, it's unlikely that you know either But since you got killed, you obviously did SOMETHING wrong.

This actually sounds kinda fun. Maybe tomorrow i'll take a Rifter with some MWDs and warp core stabs and see how far I can make it into Stain or CFS space.
Or maybe just an alt in a shuttle.

This is a funny post 0.0 ant nothing m8 just keep your head about you and use the map. When I say use the map, I mean use it look for pod/ship kills, look for ships in space and plot your path through it all. It will be the best fun for you and you will learn a lot. If you need a guild just give me a call and I'll show you some very wierd stuff in low sec. and 0.0s One more thing use your scaner it is truely usefull and the best way to see the odd items in space. (My corp is also open to new members)

Edited by: voogru on 01/05/2004 08:21:27 Auctually Dalman I stayed in empire from the time I started EVE till just a few weeks ago, only went twice for some npc hunting.
However, I made sure I knew how to run like hell should I come accross bad guys.
In my opinion, The best config to use IMO for 0.0 travel is:
Ship: Vigil
Highs: Nothing. Med: 2x MWD's, 1x Small Cap Battery II Low: 2x Relays, 1x Micro Aux Power Core
If you jump in to see a gate camp, enable both MWD's and fly away, with my skills I'm able to hold 2x MWD's long enough to go around 1200km. If they kill you, then they tried really hard or you were too slow.

***UPDATE***
well, that was a nerve-wrecking but highly enjoyable experience!
I actually took my Incursus instead, fitted with a MWD, 2 cap thingies (the ones that screw your shield recharge rate but up your cap recharge), a shield booster and an energy bomb... didnt bother with guns
I made it as far as an intaki station in FD-MLJ, after being locked several times and MWD / warping away... it's only about 8 jumps or so from empire, but running the blockades was fun
After docking i was advised that i'd entered 'secure' space by someone who had locked me just as i was approaching the station... sorry i forgot his name, but he was very polite in a vaguely threatening sort of way
After some grovelling on my part I was actually allowed to leave unharmed and was followed back into empire by varios people
If someone wants to buy the 1000 rounds of large hybrid ammo I left on sale there, that would be nice (unlikely that i will be allowed to return to collect them)
I am now planning my second jaunt into another different patch of 0.0 on the other side of the map
I would like to dock at a player owned station, which I have selected from the map... can someone tell me what the deal is with this? Do i need to get permission first or can i just dock like normal? Do you have to be in their corp?
I have a cargo hold full of cruise missiles to sell this time

PF-346 and FD-MLJ are 2 of the biggest spots for pirate campers in the game. After you get through FD-MLJ most of syndicate is empty, although for a reason - most of syndicate has nothing of value.
As for player owned stations, some allow anyone to dock for a fee, others only allow allied corps to dock. Chances are if youre heading into a warzone you will be unable to dock at a station, but it is completely dependant on the station owner - they can do as they wish. -------------------------------------------- CONCORD: Kneecapping Pilots for Misdemeanors Since 2003 |

Well played, you probably picked the most dangerous way into 0.0 and survied.
A couple of bits of adivice for anyone travelling in 0.0.
1) Never have your autopilot on when you enter a system, even if your using it make sure to turn it off before you actualy change systems, this way you get a minuite to either check local, work out how to minimise the time it take to align for warp, or beg for your life. Most of my death in 0.0 have been due to having autopilot on.
2) have enough cash to pay a reasonable toll, it's probably worth deciding in advance how much is reasonbale, it can be annoying to pay a toll, then reaslise it was way more than your losses would have been.
3) Pick a less traveled route from empire to 0.0, there are a few ways out than are much less camped than others, Myself I'd rather fly an extra 20 jumps than die in PF-346.

look for warning signs...
and be aware alliance space is usually guarded, if you make it in, and find yourself trapped, log off for a few minutes and try to exit again. When you go through a gate, if you have time, make a quickjump bookmark for your way back, it'll come in handier than you think!

************************************** UPDATE #2 **************************************
Well, I did it again, but this time i did it with style, and gusto!
80 meandering jumps through 7 regions, all in 0.0, and all in a fast (1700 m/s) incursus with no armaments.
Was locked on numerous occasions, chased, poked, prodded and watched... docked at a couple of player owned stations (27000 isk fee only to discover there wasn't even a market... WTF!?)
Eventually ended up in an alliance station and was escorted back to empire by 2 nice alliance fellows (thanks to bobhope and denathor for not blowing me up :-) ... hehe, but could they have caught me i wonder....
Back in empire I have now purchased my first cruiser although my trusty "0.0 tour bus" isn't going to get rusty in a hurry
Get out there and run the gauntlet

The first time I jumped into 0.0 there were several ship and like a dozen ogres at the gate. It seemed that it was anti-pirates chasing pirates, but I didn't stop to ask what they were doing^^.
These trips are fun, everyone should do it at least once. Before you get implants and expensive clone that is.

Meowcat- Also to remember to use your map, and the pilots in space feature. This will kinda give you an idea of hotspots and danger zones. If you see lots of pilots in the sector your passing through, more then likely they are gate camping! Be prepared if you see lots of pilots in space in the sector your entering. They will probably try to give you a free trip to a cloning station right quick!
Happy Exploring!!
