I have now finished my IRL stuff that prevented me from completing this project. All sections are done, apart from section 3.6 Pod Systems.
Please let me know what you think and I'll also start considering suggestions for a follow up manuals. Bear in mind that I mainly fly Caldari and some Amarr. Gallente /Minmatar ships would require me to consult you guys a lot more during the production of the manual.

Ok, here it is! the completed version! Please let me know if you spot any mistakes or can think of anything to add.
I had loads of fun making this guide and I hope that at least some of it is useful to you. I'm now open to suggestions on what ship you guys think I should tackle next. Preferably a T1 ship!

I tried thinking of a Trek reference too but they were all far too obvious and well, crap.

I'm thinking of doing another of these, does anyone have any special requests? preferably Tech 1 ships only. Although a guide to a faction ship would be cool

Scorpion. Excellent in it's role, cheap and versatile. You can solo in this ship, and it's Caldari...astonishing I know. |

Quote: it is highly advisable NOT to fly through explosions during combat. It looks very cool when pilots do it on holo-reels, but scrubbing frozen corpse goo out of missile bay 3 is not how you want to spend your Saturday afternoon.

Fantastic manual! I have one floating in the pod liquids at this very moment.
Only thing I'm missing is a proper cover sheet, could someone with photomanipulation skills bring the ancient Haynes series feel to it?

You should add 2 pages of legal text from the builder of the ship. 1 page of safety measures. Dont forget to add that the ship isnt designed to be used in a nuclear power plant ( /emote points to the Windows lisences ) |

that would only work if this was the official manual.

I am so torn, part of me is going..."Oh god, must be a tech writer." But the nerd in me is going "This is the most awesome thing you will ever read!" LOL! It made me laugh and for that I thank you. |

i'm glad you liked it. I've never written a tech manual in my life, I do love reading the cut-away sci-fi books though. I kind of wish i had the talent to do that.

Go a Drake or Raven manual.
Also you were the very first person who was nice to me when i was a newbie, so thank you for that. I am nearly 4.3mill SP now.

Haha, not bad.
Some of the terminology seems like advertising over an actual user manual however. Most users of a light frigate probably wouldnt need to know that the kestrel can travel over 2000 times the speed of light. Thats generally irrelevant information.
Alongside the stated uses of the kestrel, it seems more like marketing.
What I'd like to see is some more elaboration on the inner functions and working of the ship. How to connect your pod, weapon calibration, sensor cluster maintenance... including diagrams and things. You're on the right track but I wanna see more nitty gritty things. Stuff that isnt generally mentioned ingame, but obviously would exist in one way or another.
Not entirely sure who originally developed the kestrel. You can get creative though, instead of just a kestrel... maybe a "Propel Dynamics K1-A "Kestrel" Light Missile Frigate" .
Just throwing that out there. |

That's completely not the point. These aren't IMO serious manuals that you should be reading to know how to fly a ship - just imaginations of what they might be like if you actually owned your own spaceship.
Anybody remember Frontier? The instructions manual for that game was a Flight Manual for the Eagle Long-Range Fighter. 90% of the info was wrong, outdated or plain irrelevent but it didn't matter since it was great to read |

Well yeah but you know... Gotta get real creative to make it interesting! Serve up some real fantasy in the realms of the inner workings of the ship. There are some neat bits in there, but it needs moar. |

Its actually very hard to come up with credible material for the actual ship's inner workings. You are more than welcome to try. Most of this was written at 5am.
I intended this guide to be a cross between a buyers guide and an existing users guide. The first half of the guide is actual useful stuff, section 3, about the ship systems etc is something I added late in the creation for a bit of padding. I'm not sure many people want to read 28 pages of how I think the warp drive works.
I think I will do all the tech 1 Caldari frigates including the Ibis and the Caldari Shuttle. I'll see from there what to do next.
I'm trying to steer clear of tech 2 ships because I feel that they have a rigidly defined role with in the game.
