Okay couple of quick questions:
1) Will we still be able to declare war as an alliance against Corporations declared to Factions involved with Faction Warfare?
2) Will be be able to involve ourselves in the faction warfare areas even though we are, as an alliance, barred from joining Faction Warfare as a concept?
Thanks in advance Hammer.
I read a dev say no to the 2nd part. In the sense of the specific factional warfare mechanics.
For the 1st part I suspect yes, as same dev said something about within normal mechanics possible to get involved.
Don't have the link to hand unfortunately.

I'm curious about the 2v2 or 1v1 and 1v1 thing regarding the empire interactions. I think 2v2 is the better idea personally.
Also, what do people think about allowing members of a corp to join a faction (or 2 different allied factions) without involving the entire corp and without breaking it up. Ex: I'm Amarr, I sign with the Empire, some of my corp mates sign with the State and some remaning members stay neutral. I don't really see any negatives of this, unless I'm overlooking something.
I guess ultimatly speculation isn't very usefull but i thought I'd post this in the vain hope a dev sees something he didn't think of. *crosses fingers*

We've been discussing "Insurance MKII" but don't expect changes in Empyrean Age. Fly tech 1 frigs in a small group. It's a lot of fun.
REALLY? For God's sake don't do this. Handholding and taking the sting out of being stupid is the wrong thing to do. Watering down the concequences of losing ships by adding in even more insurance is just horrible. Make T2 and T1 equitable: remove ALL insurance. How else are you going to inflict damage upon the enemy?
Stuff like this is just absolute garbage. Combat is cheaper now than ever before with T2 prices in the dirt and players able to earn more ISK/hour than ever before. With loot prices at rock bottom, the winners of combat profit less, and with insurance and low prices the losers lose less per loss than ever before.
Taking the bite out of combat just to make some nacy ass carebears happier about losing their stuff is just lame. Bellum Eternus

I'm starting to have doubts about FW...
So a 10v10 mission gets set up, but what is stopping me from bringing the rest of my corp/alliance to the fight, even if they can't share the medals/rewards/standings? Its going to be so broken. Maarud.

Since we already have systems blobbed by enemy faction pirates (shooting at their own even not to mention us) and inside combat zones - FW complexes are overrun by corps (I'm sure pilot numbers will be massive for each corp) from the same faction pounding on each other to take over control points (to get 'benefits'), why should I even bother to go there with my small gang? This looks like a great mechanism to find blobs fast but not necessarily even fights.
We've really got 2 choices: A) create instanced "battlegrounds" where we only let even teams in or B) be true to the sandbox and allow the players to sort things out on their own.
I'm a bit of a sandbox purist and cringe when I read about some of the limiting game mechanics other PvP games implement. Things like the whole map resetting every other Friday or only 20 players can siege the castle or whatever. I would much rather give incentives than place arbitrary limits on people.

Nope.
What a nonsense comment. The whole point of factional warfare is PVP, so of course it won't attract people who don't want to PVP.
But it excludes the bulk of those who ALREADY pvp... The alliances.
Really about all this is going to do is provide more targets for the pirate gate camps. When the would be pvp'ers realize this, it will be unused.
I think there is potential here for this system, but I don't think it's been thought through well. I think alliances need to be involved.
I'm actually disappointed that we are getting this instead of ambulation. Ambulation would be something for everyone. This expansion basically isn't going to, in the long run, be for very many. Those who want to be safe in highsec and PVE won't participate once they figure out they are pirate fodder. Those in lowsec will use them as targets. Those in 0.0 are all in alliances and see NOTHING for them at ALL in this expansion.
^^ This. I rushed home from work to hear the DEV Blog and TBH I was dissapointed. The exclusion of the RP Alliances is a big no-no AFAIK, as it removes part of the player base that IMHO had most to contribute to FW and knowing how EVE works I can see Pirates and Greifers haveing a field day slaughtering all those T1 Friggies attempting to get into Low Sec to fight in those FW complexes; what does a -10 Pirate care about faction standings anyway?

not if your corp wants to join..
but really think of the logistics... have you ever flown in a muli allaince fleet before in space where there is another allaince at war with half your fleet? it sucks becuase half your fleet can't back up the other hlaf in a fight because they are set blue but your set red.

We are a little multiethnic corp, situated in amarrian Low Sec. For over a year we built this against many odds. I don't want to bore, so I leave it at that. But we are very close-knit.
For role playing reasons, TFT as a whole a wouldn't join single faction. But those who wanted to join, for role-playing or fun reasons, a faction militia had to leave their corps? And there sure are a lot more corps like us out there. Multiethnic, some rp, close-knit non utilitarian corps.
So, basicly, Empyrean Age is the punishment for all the roleplayers?
I'd like clarification, before I go all Charlton Heston on CCP. Thanks
The standings issue is valid ofc. I could be at war with my corp mates. On the other hand: There a are some arguments about matari and amarr technology in my corp that would be so much more interesting tbh

I don't think losing a t2 ship constitutes stupidity - its happened to me before where I have been ganged up on and subsequently destroyed. There was nothing I could have done to save my ass in that situation. We lose ships, it happens to the best of us. Unforutunately for me, I don't have access to vast isk hordes - I only get to play sporadically and certainly cannot bankroll using T2 ships that will be lost regularly in FW.
It can be very disheartening to lose a ship you've spent a good amount of time building up isk for. I know for a fact that I won't be bringing my t2 stuff to FW, which is a shame really. In saying that, I know I can still have fun with the t1 stuff and plan to do so! :D

Two questions to the DEVs,
Will faction warfare be 'the only show in town' for rp events?
Will exisiting rp'ers who are part of alliances, or who's rp factions don't fit with the choices offered (pirate faction rp'er e.t.c.) have any future rp event options?
My original sig was 'Enjoy lag free play in a dynamic space MMORPG'. It was removed for lack of EVE content! ;) CCP say 'Shut up about bugs and eat your eye candy!' |

Nope.
That's a bit short sighted.
I believe there are many people in this game that at one time or another were in largish corps/alliances and quite enjoy PVP but who now don't have the time required to commit to that type of play.
I myself and firmly in this boat and I'm really looking forward to FW's promises (let's hope it all works out!)

Yep you're probably right, I'm sure teams of storyline designers and developers just cobbled this together over a bar-b-que last weekend, of course they haven't spent years thinking through the design and game play issues that this release will create.
As for involving the alliances, unfortunately its the huge alliances that are stifling any move into 0.0 at the moment. There is currently no way even a small alliance, let alone corp, can get a foothold out there unless they sign up to alliance politics. If FW was open to the alliances they would just move in on-mass and control all these war zones with the vast amounts of defense they have available.
So another no go zone for pilots neutral to the alliance would be created, just an extension of 0.0
This is tough on the small and RP alliances, but there probably isn't another way of stopping this Who's trip-trapping on my bridge? |

IV. Where will this all be happening?
Originally by: Greyscale
It's mainly taking place in existing low sec space; Black Rise is just there because Caldari low sec space is not optimal currently. The Caldari will start off defending Black Rise and a few constellations in The Citadel, the Gallente get a large amount of Placid and the belt of lowsec along the top of Essence and so on (around Old Man Star and westward), the Amarr kick off holding The Bleak Lands and the upper parts of Devoid and the Minmatar's initial positions are in the Amamake area of Heimatar and the large expanse of lowsec Metropolis behind it. From here the Amarr can push into the Minmatar areas and vice versa, and the Gallente into the Caldari areas and vice versa.
Again, Black Rise was added just because there wasn't enough existing Caldari lowsec in the right area to make for a decent battlefield. It doesn't comprise the entire Caldari/Gallente theatre or even the entire Caldari starting position.

Ok, some bulletpoint things about capture points and control bunkers:
* Capture points are found in combat zones. * The combat zones (areas of conflict between factions, at the borders of enemy regions) are low security systems in Devoid, The Bleak Lands, Black Rise, The Citadel, Essence, Verge Vendor, Placid, Heimatar and Metropolis. * Capture points are scannable in the Cosmic Anomaly class, using the on-board scanner. They are usually located near planets. * There are three sizes of capture points, you can tell them apart by their names ([Faction] Minor Something, [Faction] Something, [Faction] Major Something). * The mechanics are not really "capture the flag", more like "King of the Hill". You need to be in the prosimity of the control point to make the timer tick. * When you "win" a capture point, either as an attacker or as a defender, you win points. * When you have enough points, the bunker in the system becomes vulnerable. * Defenders will take away points from the attacker's score every time they "win" a control points (the defenders). * A downtime is not necessary for the bunker to become vulnerable. * Once the bunker's HP has been brought under a certain level, the system will become occupied by the attacking faction after the next downtime.

I hope there are at least some devs that realize how excessive the current ship insurance is.
The fact it makes true cost of t1 battleships under 15 mil, all other t1 ships just a couple mil, is something I find completely unacceptable in a game that is supposed to be "hardcore". The 40% basic payout for caps, motherships, and titans also seems completely unecessary.
Insurance SHOULD be there to help the newer players. It shouldn't help older players, definitely not people who fly motherships, titans, and any t2 ship.
And the economy would be better off without all that extra isk being injected. NPC bounties make enough already.
I can sort of understand people who want to keep current insurance system rather than nerf it to hell like it deserves. But to think some people actually want to have more insurance? I just don't get it. That's something WoW people would do.

Removing insurance means people will be even less likely to fight, even more eager to dock up and station camp. Even as things are now, it's hard to get good pew pew. Keep the insurance the way it is!
