Originally by: Leowen OK please forgive me for this, this is not an epeen flashing moment, I really don't care about eve ISK right now as I'm really quite bored of it all. But this thread needs to be fleshed out with an example I think. I'm sure I'll get some flameage but meh.
I've played EVE for 5 years, have about 100b in cash, 200b in easily liquidatable (word? it's late and i cba to think) assets, and a further 200-250b in T2 prints. There are MANY in EVE significantly richer than me, the vast majority of whom don't look at this forum afaik, and even more (many of whom do walk this forum) that have comparable wealth. All I do and have ever done in EVE is play the commercial side of the game. I say commercial rather than industrial because I don't care whether I'm building or mining or trading or what, I do what I do to make money faster than the next guy. I am very competitive and wealth is my goal. I guess I'm the money-motivated equivalent of Genghis Khan or sommat.
Anyway the point is I have an obscene amount of ISK, there are LOADS of people like me, and we have nothing to spend/gamble/fritter away/invest the money on. Because CCP have not added any high-end industrial/commercial goals of any consequence in YEARS. That's the issue here, there is no 'out' for the isk that is pooling in the hands of the dedicated commercialist. The more money the likes of me have, the more I can accumulate, the bigger the issue becomes.
Maybe CCP don't care, maybe they think that people like me will leave EVE at which point the ISK disappears, I really don't know. I don't really have a valuable contribution in terms of suggestion tbh I'm happy to admit. I've spent too much time making this point and I'm a bit bored of it. I just wanted to add a little reality to this conversation as I get the impression that most reading this thread don't realise how deep this issue is.

Quite frankly, your goals suck. Wealth accumulation for its own sake is boring as hell. I can see the couple richest people on the server keeping it up since being #1 has cachet, but hanging onto 'overall eve wealth position #84' does not.
I got bored with wealth accumulation three years ago, give or take. I bought myself a couple PVP characters (even if I still seldom use them), started backing certain fledgling corporations making new attempts to get a toehold in 0.0 space... The first one or two blew apart in funny interpersonal drama, and then we found a winner with the GoonFleet idea. I bought a few hundred frigates for each race, plus fittings, freightered them off to Scolluzer since Remedial had a personal hate-on for 3FA and we decided the school there made a great staging point for Syndicate. We ran our first newbie drive with the involvement of most goons who already played eve and it went like gangbusters and then drew in nearly all the rest of the goons who played eve (although many came & went a few times), and I've been a not insignificant part of our military-industrial complex ever since then.
I likely could have many times as much personal isk had I played to get richer & not quit, but what would the bloody point be, indeed? Instead I'm proud of GoonFleet - it's my baby, albeit a mildly ******** baby at times, but look at what we've accomplished.
(In other "sense of accomplishment" news, I do take personal credit for Jita 4-4-CNAP becoming the biggest trade hub in eve after the NWO jumpgate changes, since I had absolutely already made it the busiest station for Jita by being the biggest battleship producer there by a mile, with massive high-price ore, ice, and mineral buy orders (before GoonFleet, many months of goon newbies were in fact my highly compensated mining slaves), and then started playing multiregion T2 Component / Moon Product games to spur its victory since my moon mining was all pretty close to Jita and I didn't want to have to haul it 20 jumps to another station.)
But in short, it's up to YOU.
