Hi,
Just saw a vagabond going for a whopping 14km/s.. Now, I'm wondering how I could kill such a ship. Obviously it's pimped and could drop some nice lootz.
What gang setup would be required / wanted to catch such a ship?
Best regards, Arra'ji

Edited by: Asteryos on 16/05/2008 22:55:25 Dear Arra'ji,
I shall write you a small guide to what it takes to take down these particulair Vagabonds.
Requirements: * A good ammount of isk! * A Asteroid belt! * This has to take place in 0.0 (im assuming this, since most of the Vagabond pilots reside in 0.0).
Step 1: Get this Rapier and this Arazu, put them around 40 km's from a Caracal. The bait ship must be a Caracal, since i personally could never withstand a Caracal kill (i don't think anyone can). Don't forget to put the Caracal in one of the asteroid belts, asteroids can help you (don't you just hate bumping into asteroid belts as a nanopilot)!
Step 2: As soon as the nanopilot engages, the Arazu and the Rapier wil decloak and hold the Vagabond in his place. THEY DO NOT ENGAGE THE VAGABOND, since it can easaly 1 shot them. Now what you do is warp in 5 (preferably 10) cyno capable ships. Preferably recon ships.
Step 3: As soon as the cyno's are in place you warp in 5 titans. DO NOT TRIGER THE DOOMSDAY DEVICES YET.
Step 4: Warp in 300 stealth bombers (these can be any race, as long as their fitted for maximum damage output).
Step 5: As soon as the 300 stealth bombers shoot their first volley, tell your titan pilots to get ready!
Step 6: When the first few cruise missiles are about to hit, you tell your titan pilots to trigger their doomsday devices!
Should look something like this KABOOM!!! The ending of yet another Vagabond!
And thats basicly everything to it. I tried this in reallity and it worked, seems to be the only solution so far against Vagabonds. I hope this helped you out!
Best regards, Asteryos

i wouldn't even consider trying to kill that ship.
you could throw hundreds if not thousands of ships at that thing and they are either going to die a completely humiliating death or simply never catch him.
best thing to do would be to move to a different part of eve. vagabonds are completely unstoppable and a gamebreaking ship, the devs need to nerf any ship that can go over 3500m/s tbh imho

A rapier, hugin, curse, or one brave BRAVE (and suicidal) inty pilot is all you need m8.
Oh an the vaga pilot being stupid doesn't hurt either.

If its one lone pilot bugging you, the most cost effective way i could see it to jam him with ecm and hope he gets bored.
Even with proj ambit extentions (which i doubt hes using since hes going so fast) his engagement range will still be under 30km with barrage.
Jam him, shoot his drones, and have a BS with a few heavy neuts and he should leave you alone

You realistically need a nano gang of your own. It needs to have the right ship types to engage other nano gangs as the most dangerous thing to a nano is more and faster nanos.

I'd go with a few ceptors and a nano scimitar. Maybe something for damage. Once a ceptor gets a web on, the vaga is boned. With the scimitar in the mix there isn't much risk for the ceptors.
The vagas only real chance is to either run away or engage far enough away from the scimitar. Vagas are often not that threatened by ceptors so they'll stay and play versus warping off.
Or if you can catch a vaga sleeping, then a rapier/huginn/curse is the simple answer.

At that speed the short answer is you probably CAN'T kill him.
The good news is at that speed he probably can't kill you either.
The solution? If speed is keeping him alive it stands to reason stopping him would probably be the key to defeating the ship. The pilot probably isn't dumb enough to ever dip inside web range and will probably run the moment a Hugghin shows up on scanner.
Most of the usual anti-nano suggests won't work - no missile, no matter how pimped the ship the skills or the pilot will so much as scratch the rust on such a vaga. Warrior II's even with maxed skills would never catch the vaga (Though I'm not sure if a domi could jam on enough drone navigation CPU's to catch the vaga - anyone know?) That leaves just a few options.
One could always reduce trasnversal - though given the speed of the vaga one would have to be in a fast ship loaded to the gills with tracking computers to even hope to start landing blows. The only other option is to hope for pilot error. Engage the vaga in a belt and find the busisest cluster of roids you can. Then wedge yoru ship in there, start orbiting a rock and hope to god the Vaga bounces off of a few. If you get lucky you'll snag enough shots to make the vaga run away. If you get really lucky you'll get enough shots to kill him.

Fit a Temp for short range and fast tracking. Sit in a typical snipe spot. Name your ship "Super Sniper". Fit one slot with Arty and take a few shots to lure your prey. Cloak a Huginn nearby and it's done of you get the right pilot. |

He may not necessarily drop great loot. It could all be in implants, polycarbon rigs and him happening to overload the mwd (or having gang bonuses) when you saw him, while the speed mods are only tech 2.

If the pilot is intelegent, its not easy to kill him. Until CCP release web scripts killing people in > 10k/sec ships is not exactly easy if the pilot has a clue.
It can be done with nanoships but without nanoships, this video will show how. --

Edited by: Khorian on 17/05/2008 11:13:19 No no no. You take a Megathron, call it Super Sniper and park it 150km from a gate. You fit it with Blasters and overloaded Domi Webs. Actually you should just fit one 425mm Rail to make the illusion perfect. When the Vaga appears you pretend to try to get away and shoot it with your Railgun only. The Vaga pilot will be so happy he found you and speed up to you hoping you don't warp off. He won't believe his luck that you werent aligned.
Then you pray that he is bold enough to get into the range of your overloaded Domi webs, scramble him and destroy him. ---

A T2 Huginn could do it. Either get it to aggress any 'bait' ship or jump in while it's close to gate (which it will be if its intention is to do something other than zoom around stroking his ego). If you're on the ball or have a sensor booster, chances are it will not get outside overloaded web distance before you have it neetly slowed down to 14 * 0.1 * 0.1 = 140 m/s and are mwding toward it to keep up with the initial momentum.
Of course, depends on how paranoid he is and under what circumstances it happens. If he doesn't know what you're in and wants to hunt you (ie. waits for you to uncloak to tackle you) then you should have no problem whatsoever. If it's 0.0 and he's tackling someone else, he might disengage upon every jump. If it's empire and you're at war with him, he might not even see you in local and you'll get a surprise initiative.
But you could also just get a Raven with dual web. Do you know how easy it is to tank a vagabond? If you've ever fought half-decently tanked Ravens in a vagabond, you'll know that you need to maximise your damage which means doing flyby's close or simply going up close to your optimal since most of them don't have a web, and even if they do, a single web is relatively easy to get away from in a fast vaga. Someone going 14km/s probably knows this well, and the chances of a raven having dual web fitted are very very small.
So act like you're running from him, reapproach the gate while tanking him. The ****ty thing about fast vagas for one is that you drift out of tackle range all too easy, so most likely he won't be using the mwd before he wants to run. Either he'll come in for a bump or come close just because he needs the damage. If you act as if you're going back to the gate and are not shooting him, chances are he'll be more willing to come up close. And when he does, you nail him. ----------------------
