Ive played almost all of them. Among my faves:
Heroes of MM Space Empires Homeworld CoD 4 (way too short) Transport Tycoon Max Payne Starcraft
When I say Ive played almost all games, I mean it. The problem is I cant find a game that keeps my attention for more than a few hours. Graphics are not a huge issue here, I prefer higher game mechanics without having too much micro-management. Civilization games were fun but required too much attention. Getting too old and dumb to compete in twitch games (FPS). Heroes was a fantastic game but they sacrificed gameplay for graphics starting at about #3.
Im open for suggestions! Please keep in mind that I am trying to find a single player game to get into.
I may jusy have to stick with homeworld forever...

Played them all. Assassin's Creed was OK. Reminded me of hitman kinda. Maybe I should be more clear and say I am looking for a game that is NOT main-stream as I've given about 95% of those a fair run.
DefCon - everyone dies is fantastic. Games like that. Not a lot of popularity but well-written.

Warcraft III and it's expansion Frozen Throne.
Damn why do you have to ask the hard questions?
Dawn of War Oblivion (pretty mainstream) Freespace
I rather liked Star Wars: Jedi Academy and if you happen to have a gamecube or PS2 lying around Star Wars: Bounty Hunter was a great game.
Universe at War I heard was pretty good. Hitman series. Beyond Good + Evil

I see you mentioned Heroes, but... Master of Orion 2 ? The first one was halfway decent, the third one was horrible, but the second one is still a game that's almost always installed on any machine I own.

If you haven't done it yet. Download Gametap. Without a subscription you don't get access to most of their stuff, but games like Blood Omen 2, Hitman 1&2, Tomb Raider: Legend, Mr.Robot, Psychonauts, Rogue Trooper, Second Sight and Thief:Deadly Shadows should keep you busy for at least a few weeks. ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. Universe at War is the best RTS I've played in years, it blows Generals, Act of War, and C&C3 out of the water, I like it better then Sup Com, the factions are really diverse and interesting, while retaining balance, I'd put it on the level of the original Starcraft in terms of gameplay. _________

I could recommend oblivion. I bought game of the year edition for pcp, and got over 130 game hours out of it. It does not require too much mircomanagement or reflexes, and is quite fun. And it looks nice.
PS: buy it on PC so you can dowload mods. ~~~~~~ *mods, if you think i'm ugly please say "eeek!"* ~~~~~~ eeeeeekk - Deckard eeeeee...K -Darth Patches gawwwd damn!!1 -zhuge you soo pretty I think you're stunningly handsome and let me just say that you're wearing that dead parrot on your shoulder in a particularly dashing way today. -Hango Your using up all the space hango! - Timmeh |

Edited by: Kyrall on 17/05/2008 09:32:59 Edited by: Kyrall on 17/05/2008 09:29:09 Civilization 4 is pretty damn good, and at around 50 hours per game, it makes a decent time sink! It's now on Steam for a fairly reasonable price, the add-ons are possibly worth it if you like it a lot, though maybe leave them till you get bored of it and then come back a couple of months later...
Edit: Oops I missed that you said about Civ. Oh well, I still recommend them as they are pure awesome!
2nd edit: Civ has too much micro-management, but you consider Transport Tycoon to be a favourite?!?! Don't tell me you played that game but didn't fine tune every little stretch of railway track to be at the absolute peak of efficiency! Ahh the many happy hours eaten up by that game... - Originally by: Kyrall Pfft antivirus? Real men use a hard drive tank.

* Dark Messiah of Might and Magic (FPS/Twitch but single player, lots of fun/atmosphere, but not much replayability)
* Sacred
Other than that, I can't think of anything that'd be fun enough for me to play atm (I also have a long gaming career ;-)). I'd fancy a game or 2 of Master of Orion 2 though (if I could find it).
EVE Online: a cold, cruel world where (RL-)rich people replace their losses with GTCs sold to poor students who need to farm ISK to afford their play time ...

Sacred was good for a while. Darwinia is very fun! (I think those are the same guys who made Everyone Dies)
Come to think of it, I may have lost my gaming capacity altogether
There has not been a game that could hold my interests for longer than a short while. Maybe a day or two at most. The problem is I see so many faults and ability to min/max them right off the bat that makes them no fun for me. Right now I am spending some time playing Space Invasion (kinda like the ikariam thing) which has kept me somewhat attentive for 3 days now.
Thanks for the pointers folks, but I might be reaching the twilight where these things cant keep my attention anymore.
And to the guy who said transport tycoon was not micro-managey: i loved that game so much, but i got to a point where i could setup an entire rail system without screwing up. No tweaking necessary. Over 48 trains servicing the same station with no stalls, full 4 leaf clover systems and roll-on/roll-off systems. That is a GREAT game.

There was an old game I played which I could have sworn went by the name 'Syndicate' but every search I have done came up with a completely different game.
This game had research, a stock market, a mail system with missions, and a RTS all rolled up into one. You could research mechs, weapons, tanks, troops, and all sorts of junk then choose your battles. Then you could customize your units how you saw fit and send them into battle. this was possibly 92-96, anyone have any ideas?

This is Syndicate > http://www.bestoldgames.net/eng/old-games/syndicate.php Absolute classic.
And then they did the sequel Syndicate Wars which was also brilliant and a little more brutal :)
