And the courts should easily identify that the charges against her hold no weight.
I think you misunderstood.
Yeah, I was pretty tired, I think I just read conspiracy. But I doubt that conspiracy to break a EULA or T&Cs exists.
Still not getting it.

Edited by: Slade Trillgon on 20/05/2008 18:59:40 I will say that the only thing that they could really get her on is breaking the EULA and/or hacking her daughters account.
There is no case to be had on holding the mother responsible for the daughters death, criminally. About the only crimal charge they could possible get the mother on is Cyber Assult (if there is such a thing) if any threats of violence were made.
This is a prime example of why, at least in the US, we have Civil Courts. In the Civil Court they definately have a case for punitive damages for sure.

As sick and disgusting as what that woman did was, I can't think of a single real law that she actually broke in doing this

Edited by: Hooch Flux on 21/05/2008 13:11:45 Megan was a 13 year old girl with a weight problem and depression (was medicated)! Lori Drew knew this as her daughter and Megan had been friends for years, they had a falling out and Lori (allegedly) decided to create this Myspace account (Josh) to find out if Megan was talking smack about her daughter online (what kind of responsible mother does something like this to begin with, it's a children's argument?).
The tone of the exchange started to change over time as Megan started to take the whole BF thing more seriously (Unsurprisingly this is pretty normal for an insecure teenager). Lori decided to break it off because it was getting too serious (Fair Enough), then the messages started getting vindictive with confusion on Megan's side (Why had this boy that she thought she was having a relationship with shunning her all of the sudden (Now I don't know about the rest of you but it is easy to look at this and say "Get over it", and any rational adult would, but do you remember when you were a teenager and how everything that happened was "Super Serious"?)
Lori could never have predicted that outcome so I would have to say that it was totally accidental, but Lori should also have been responsible enough of an adult that she should have just stayed out of it!
Did she commit a "legal" crime, doubtful!
Was she irresponsible, yes!
As for people who suggest that bullying happens to everyone and they don't commit suicide "yadda, yadda, yadda", sure, that's true. But not everyone is tough like that, there are vulnerable people out there!
It's tragic that this happened, and to most of us it looks like a total overreaction, but to an insecure 13 year old girl it was the end of the world!
To me Lori did nothing legally wrong, but she demonstrated very bad parenting skill by getting involved in a childish spat!
Apparently from what I have gathered, the DrawÆs have had to close their business and have pretty much been run out of town!
It's also interesting to note that Lori Drew came out with some very nasty things to say in her defence when she should have probably kept her mouth shut! (Those things are probably what got the Drew's run out of town!)
I say prep for dustoff, nuke the site from orbit...
Only way to be sure! |

I'm not sure what is more scary. The fact that cyber bullying is currently illegal in 10 of 50 states, or the fact that there was a federal case of "you didn't put your real information on myspace".
