This is EVE, how does that not seem right?
It's not right because real stealing is not right. That isk I used as collateral was isk I paid for using the legal time-code selling market that CCP sponsers and supports. So either Baronsold stole real money from me or CCP did. Either way, if you have any morals, you would see it's not right. Flawed game mechanics cost me real money.
At this point it doesn't matter what any of you think though. I've taken this to a higher level than just a forum alert. I've already filed a formal complaint with IC3 and NW3C. As well as reporting it to my commanding officer in my chain of command. (i'm in the military).
Either way, I am not letting anyone steal real money from me. No different than if a thief breaks into my house and steals something.
Listen, douche bag. I'm in the military too. US Marines as a matter of fact. I'm a Corporal. If one of my junior Marines came to me with the **** you are saying, I would laugh in his dumbass face. And I'm just an NCO. I wish you WOULD bring it up to your ****in' CO. You're gonna get your ass in a sling doing that.
You got scammed in a game. Period. In a GAME.
"I'm in the military" doesn't impress anyone in the least bit.

Originally by: Kyuzo Takeda Since CCP supports, sponsors, and condones the selling of gtc's for isk, to in affect, gain them more revenue, it is infact their responsibility (even more so) that they ensure players are not scammed or stolen from.
unfortunately for you, CCP also supports, sponsors and condones scamming, racketeering, murder, assassination, and theft. In fact, they advertise that you can do those things. Therefore, you paid for a service, which you got (in this case, you paid money for a GTC, which you then traded for isk, after which you were killed by an unrelated 3rd party.) I'd say you got what you paid for. I would have imagined a character belonging to a corporation that brands itself as "Black Dragon Crime Syndicate" would understand this, but apparently, you are not only clueless in-game, but clueless enough in RL to waste my money (since, as a tax payer, i pay your salary, the salary of your chain of command, and of your legal office). -- this is my sig. |

I have to say that the only thing that made this thread good was when he said he was taking it up the chain of command in the military. Though I really have to think he is just trolling, it was funny reading that post anyway.

The amazing thing is that if you set the collateral to something reasonable and pay a decent amount for delivery, people actually snap these up. It's astonishing to me, but my stuff always gets delivered at very reasonable rates.
So, people are using these for their intended purpose, and people are (they must be!) accepting these contracts and carrying them out.
I am in the same position I do a lot of regionwide buy orders and use courier contracts to get the goods in, I set collaterals based on just a shade above market value of the good being couriered and set the reward as a percentage of the value of the goods adjusted by the number of jumps and general security risk of the route. if im asking someone to go through lowsec it seems only fair that i pay a bit more than the person hauling 2 jumps in 0.9 space.
99% of the couriers I have contracted out have been completed sucessfully.

Yeah, I think that's fairly safe if you do it in a blockade runner.
It's also a slightly different group of couriers, the people taking those missions expect hostilities and are comfortable with the risks of pvp, those on a courier through empire expect a leisurely cruise.

This is where you are wrong. if you paid more than 200M collateral, then expect that you will be carrying items at least 200M in worth. Therefore, you use the same precautions as if you were carrying 200M+ worth. Never mind that you can just double click on the container and see the contents, or that a cargo scan will reveal the contents of a courier package.
It would stand to think, then, that if someone just paid a 1 Billion isk collateral, that you would be using the best tanked ship you could for the ammount of cargo that the courier package took up.

Eve operates on very simple rules as regards scams - as long as it takes place entirely through in-game means, it's legit. If you fall for it, sucks to be you. The fact that you were willing to put RL money into the game in large quantities is irrelevant - that's like saying that casinos are thieves because you can lose money at poker. You should have known what you were putting your money into - if you did, you should have seen this coming, and if you didn't then it's just proof of the old maxim that a fool and his money are soon parted.

Well, I've seen stupid before. Like this one time when I was working at a gas-station to put myself through college, there was this guy who wanted to wash his car. He bought the wash-token and went out. This is a drive-through car wash, mind you. Five minutes later he comes running into the store again, soaking wet, and started yelling at me because the wash was broken. The nut had opened his car door and attempted to watch the washing from the outside. Both he and the interior of his car where soaked.
But I'm not sure if the guy above is more or less stupid than the OP.

the ONLY reason i can think of for accepting a courier contract is if you're headed down that pipeline anyway and aren't looking to make anything more than some pocket change.
you know what? scratch that. courier contracts suck. i just use them when i need **** moved around and don't feel like doing it myself. if they make it, cool. if not, collateral FTW.
though i'd love to make a courier with a huge collateral from airaken to bwf just to see if anyone's that dumb (btw, anyone know the most consistently camped empire<->0.0 gate?)
