Was just given this news link ingame.
Seems legit, it's off the myeve website. Though I had trouble finding the news article in the proper news channels myself.
Seems CCP are going to change the timecode system as an excuse to increase the prices.
Now I don't know if you looked but.
It's currently $38.85 from Shattered crystal to buy a 90 day timecard.
They are apparently proposing a 60 day timecard for $34.99.
In otherwords, you are paying about a 50% increase if you rely on game time cards like me, and will be paying the equivalent of 3 accounts to sustain 2 accounts.
I don't you about you, but I feel my dependance on GTC is really getting taken advantage of here. My budget is tight and will feel the squeeze with this one, I can still afford to play, but if they had increased GTC prices by 100% instead of 50% I'd have to be quitting I think.
What are your guys opinions?

I don't know if you've noticed, but the dollar isn't worth jack or **** these days, and this is mostly just compensating for that.

nice timing, up the price just as some other mmo's are coming on the market.
Gives a nice boost for ISK sellers too, bet they're rubbing their hands together right now.

Don't troll my thread by trying to focus on a bit I said near the end and making it out as a wah wah post, it was hypothetical, you might be able to afford double the price if it happened, good for you smart ass. Just saying we're all feeling the purse strings tighten a bit these days.

Edited by: Lord WarATron on 22/05/2008 14:50:23 The doller droped value around 40-50% in the last few years I think, perhaps thats the reason why.
Also unifying all timecards to be 60 days insted of 30/90/50/100 days is more of a smart business move tbh. --

Reducing the number of types of GTCs to one makes sense. Things easier to manage, CCP gets to devote more effort to other things, all is well. AS it stands, most other MMOs that sell time codes only sell in one or two incremenets already, so that is fairly standard.
I'm not thrilled by the price increase obviously but it was bound to happen eventually. -------------------- "I am hard pressed on my right; my centre is giving way; situation excellent; I am attacking." - Ferdinand Foch at the Battle of the Marne |

I for one am very unhappy about this. First, I like paying and playing MONTHLY, and I resent having that option taken away. Secondly, I simply don't feel the game is worth paying an increased price for. That might sound offensive, but the inability to handle fleet fights after all these years, and the continuing problems certainly don't inspire me to play more.
In fact, once it changes I'll just find I'm unwilling to drop $35 in one month to play, and then I'll run out of time and stop.

I'm really disappointed at the way CCP try to disguise a massive increase in price as a "change to common GTC lengths".

These will replace the 30- and 90-day cards that were previously available
90 days are the most cost effective (cheapest) GTC's that are (were) currently available for long term players like myself, so that is the benchmark to compare to, as that and the 30 day are going. If you bought 90 days, and are now stuck only with 60 days, you are paying about 50% more.
Sorry I'm such a nub, but if I am, I don't know what it makes you exactly.
(Is it really surprising from the recent csm vote it can be calculated only around 10% of the community read the forums? I don't think it's surprising, I'm used to the forums and It still surprises me how stubbornly obnoxious and conceited half the posters can be)
Yeah, I see it's reasonable really, considering as people have mentioned, I totally agree the falling dollar value is to blame and CCP are recouping their losses from this.
But if I were you, I may go do some panic buying of the existing GTC's while they are still around, this thread was meant more of a warning to people who arent in the know, more then anything.

You don't need to, plenty of suppliers use the dollar. ShatteredCrystal's price on a 90d code is currently $38.85. The new 60d code is apparantly going to cost $34.99. We're paying $3.86 less for 30 days less of game time. Prices are being increased by $9.09 per 60 days.
The previous price was $0.43167 per day, the new one is $0.583167 per day. That's a percentage increase of 35% if I'm doing my maths right.

That's a scalar constant, and shouldn't affect a relative comparison of prices over the last few years.
EDT: And VAT isn't almost 50% anywhere in Europe!

I actually agree with the move by CCP.
Hopefully it will help cull the leeches such as yourself from the game and provide more resources to those of us who actually pay for it.

At the first moment I wasn't happy either (who wants to pay more for the same?), but then think!
It is really a great offer from CCP to have these GTC and ETC available and support officially the ISK-ETC conversion.
And a 20% increase in which time? It could be far worse. And after all, it is their business. And if the weak dollar is hurting them then they need to come up with something. An increase in GTC price isn't that bad. Could be far worse.
No big fuss.

Sorry for any sense of humour failure or making this thread look any more whiney or damaging to CCP then necessary, I can see why they'd need to make the changes they are doing as people have mentioned.
But yeah, oi yanks, can we have a new US president plz?

Edited by: Jack Gilligan on 22/05/2008 15:33:38 This is total bull****. You are getting essentially only 60 days of play time for not much less than you can currently get 90 for. That is almost a 30% increase in price.
First an expansion with content that they are denying to many, if not most players, now a HUGE price increase for those who use GTC's.
"Make things simpler" my butt. Why not at least be honest and say this is so you can make more money? A 60 day GTC should not cost more than twice the 30 day sub fee.

Can someone in tell me what the different credit card subscription rates are? The US ones and the EU ones, specifically. I can't check because it doesn't let you if you have over 30 days left on your account. I want to see if it's more expensive to buy gtcs now than to pay by credit/debit card. If that were the case, it would be profiteering, in my opinion. If it's about the same, then CCP are clearly just recovering US prices from the dollar being weak.

US monthly fee is $14.95/month, which is what you can buy a 30 day GTC for currently as well.

and the 3 months or 90 day rate is 38.85 3$ more then the 60 day timecard seems kind dumb.
