I have a cool idea. We can quene skill training still but another cool way of makeing you charecter skill up is like if you use that skill. (example) You kill three rats in a 0.7 sec. You salvage them and you get a few skill points for useing that skill. I/e you get more people playing the game and you also get to learn more things more often from trying to lvl the skills up. Tell me your ideas. (Pros, Cons) And tell me if you like it.

It would lead to boring grinding and would only benefit players who have no life.

There are several threads in the ideas forum that are similar to this.
Basically this type of idea breaks the balance of offline skill training. The offline system is one of the unique things about EvE that makes it accessible to casual players since it represents a single axis where people who play 5 hours per week are not immediately outclasses by people who play 50.
While I can understand the idea of "I play more so I should advance faster", everything else in the game is already geared towards that (ISK, standing, etc). SP is the one major axis that isn't.

This was in the game.
People abused it by shooting asteroids with lasers while orbitting AFK for several hours (thus boosting the ship skill and energy turret skills).
Unsurprisingly CCP removed it.

You think you have a cool idea, but it's a HORRIBLE idea. People above explained why.

No offense, Akita, but your post is like the 5th wheel on an applecart.

A 5th wheel on an applecart could be very useful for towing your trailer with.

Yeah, i think that the current skill system eve has is the best of all MMO's
it works for all
- You DONT have to be 23/7 on eve to keep compete, so you CAN have a life
- You can enjoy the game more, and dont fall into the "Do same thing repetedly and bore yourself to death" just becouse you want to increase sertain skill
- Players that want to play but dont have time to play right now get to have more fun when they get back, as they can plan their skills without falling behind becouse of RL.
- CCP: gets $ from people not adding extra server load, $ they can (and do) invest into developing new things to keep eve cutting edge.
So win - win for all
(it all made sence to me, if it didnt for you then sorry, i should have hade some sleep instead of playing eve all night)

I have an even better one: let's have Eve monitor our online activities, so if i play a lot of FPS i'll have better tracking, if i talk a lot on MSN my social skills will go up, or if i'm good at teaching my nintendog to do new things it'll improve my leadership ingame, if i have good feedback on ebay i get a boost in trade skills and so on!!! :D
Do not try and find the signature... that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth... There is no signature. |

Brilliant! Please let us hook up our treadmills to Eve so all that "grinding for RL fitness" can give us better ship speeds!

I have stopped playing every other online game I've tried (including WoW) because grinding is everything. I'm over 30, have a job, a social life, a girlfriend, and an ex-wife... I can't spend 30 hours a week playing. If I join a guild in WoW, everyone else reaches some ubar level much more quickly than me and starts doing raids and things I can't access, so I never end up staying in any guild for any time. It becomes anti-social, in effect.
Eve is one of the few where that is not the case. This means I can keep pace with other people in the game instead of feeling like I'm penalised for having a real life.
I think the training in Eve, and the lack of grind, is a major reason a lot of people like me (older, have jobs etc) play Eve.
So that's why I, and other players like me, would not like a change in this direction.
