But no. It's an old joke relating to game developers saying that things would be done soon, but in reality they wouldn't be done for a long, long time. CCP started adding a trademark symbol after the word (or possibly someone else did and CCP picked it up) to show when they meant this version of soon, and left it out when they actually meant things would be done soon.
I even have a t-shirt that says SOONÖ on it, though I think they stopped selling them aaages ago.

SoonÖ is traditional, you need to have been playing WAAAYYYY back to know where it originated from (and like all good jokes, trying to explain it doesnt work).
As for Empyrean Age, the actual answer is not SoonÖ, but When its ReadyÖ

This. The cool kids on the forums started to use it, and CCP picked it up. If I remember correctly this occured around 2004.

Started before then, but yes, was started by the players. Short bad explanation, it was started in response to the stated arrival time of titans in the game (something that was once promised for release)

Yeah, WAAAYYYY back as in back when Quake was still on the shelves. In fact, SoonÖ is nearly as old as When It's DoneÖ, which is at least as old as Duke Nukem Forever.
Don't take my namedropping DNF as a curse, though. If I wanted to do that I'd drop a Mark Rein- style Two WeeksÖ on you.

That was my reaction too, and the thought nearly killed me. CCP changing SoonÖ to When its ReadyÖ is veeery scary.
I think I'll report that post. Dev or not, giving your subscribers a heart attack can't be tolerated and should be considered a Bad MoveÖ.
