This ship uses dual 720mm howitzer which is actually two separate howitzers assembled into single turret. It takes two med-slots and have decreased tracking and fitting requirements but almost doubled rate of fire. And it looks cool I think.
Aren't destroyers supposed to be a new class of ships between cruisers and Battleships?...
Having said that,i think the above idea would work great for the bomber class of frigates tho...

Yeah, I would LOVE to see a new class between frigate and cruiser. Just imagine how happy all the newbies would be not having to claw their way from a frigate to a cruiser. Also I love how the girders on this design are much more detailed then the other Minmatar vessels as that has been what repulsed me the most about Minmatar ships.

Well, I sketched this ship up some time ago, and I tried to model it, but my modelling skills are hardly up to the task. And I'm a little too busy working on coding tasks, so I figure I'll just post the sketch and people can do whatever with it. Was meant to be the thorax's bigger brother, a battle cruiser perhaps.

I assure you, that wasn't intentional... Actually, I was gonna do a side view as well, but RL called. The side view would have differentiated it quite a bit. There's supposed to be a set of engines on fins under the wing-like protrusions and a command mast is suspended below the engine section.

Time to go brush up on my 3D modeling skills in AutoCAD. I want to see if I can emulate the vertical orientation of the Celestis and Tristan on a larger scale.

would be nice if the dev's gave us a rough poly limit for ships in eve, most of the models ive seen here are way above what i would expect from inspecting the current ships.

easy to learn, hard to master
most people start learning with a program like 3ds Max, its relatively user friendly with absolutely loads of tutorials. The only problem with it is that there is no learning edition.
There are lots of cheaper but almost as powerful apps as well. Cinema 4D is excellent for its price point, as is Lightwave. I wouldn't bother with apps like truespace etc. as their layout is unlike all the larger apps.
Maya and Softimage are heavyweights within the 3D industry, and both have free learning editions - though output is restricted and watermarked. Both have pretty steep learning curves, but there are loads of tutorials.
For a good source of info regarding 3D apps etc. try 3D World, it has a load of links etc. to get you started.

Like with any medium of art, years of work are required to become good. Decade or more is required for true mastery.

Edited by: Aronis Contar on 29/05/2004 03:57:12 Hey, myk also entering this one (we know each other from else where )
Well, here's a WIP of mine. Neither destroyer nor dreadnought, this is supposed to be a Gallente carrier, named "Argo" after the ship from Greek mythology. Mostly lacking in the aft part, and I'm not happy about the silvery pieces (idea stolen shamelessly from the Dominix). But it's a start. Textures are, ahem, a lot of work to paint, so this takes a while to do. Mesh itself is not really high poly count, something like 4800 triangles.
Enjoy!

I think the front cow-scooper thing could use a change, but the textures and style is perfect, nice! _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

I really like these...it seems to me that a heavy combat ship should maximize volume with armor/shield coverage...perfect being a sphere, but that would look dumb. The armor tanking ships of the Amarrians seem to follow this heavy hull look. =======Abaddon=======
