the Oracle looks pretty good, it has that amarr look to it. from the dimensions it looks more like a frigate tho, or a small cruiser than something bigger.
I like the idea of getting the community involved in creating the looks for the expansions, but I think that you guys could help more by providing interesting concept art - getting a player-created model into the game is probably too much trouble (you need to import it, tweak it, fix it, skin it... and I¦m not even talking about the rights).
so come on, grab paper and pencil and show us what the ships of tomorrow can look like!

Atea, on second look at my ships, I still like them, but I am starting to think they do look more frigate sized than BS sized, as you said. It is easier for me to do my concept right in the modelling program, so I will be back at it again later today!
I really like working with the Amarr style, so I am going to try to make something that looks like it has a lot of mass to it, but still following the style.

the Meridium loks kikass with a gallante touch to it.
and the oracle and the other ship that guy made look nice as well ( i like the 1st one as a caldari ship)

Gmax is a free 'lite' version of 3d studio, tisnt bad if u cant get a copy of 3ds or another decent prog.

I¦m impressed, this thread is still living and i got more and more hits on my design page ;)
I even have a new ship ready  :
Here is it, the CALDARI dreadnought "STORMHAWK"
The page itself is still improving, pit per bit, so check it in the future too! 
I will now start to collect all images created by you and post it there, within the next days  !

Grats Chade I really love the StormHawk too !! very Caldarish with the missile launchers and the modern style hull...best one so far

In order for large ships to feel large, you need to add alot of little bright dots- aka windows (my limited English skill prevents me for finding a better word)- like Armaggedon/Apocalypse do. With that, people will be able to feel the dimensions of a ship.
Here an example: When you are moderatly zoomed out, which ship looks more Battleship-sized and less frigate-sized- a Typhoon, or an Armageddon?

Nice work. However, i feel compelled to point out that if by some slim chance you actually managed to get an Amarrian ship into the game called the "Oracle," we would regretfully be forced to pod you until the end of time...

The stormhawk is the first ship here that looks like a dreadnaught, but I can't see the protruding*****pit that's one of the highlights of caldari architecture

The Stormhawk is my absolute favorite design so far, in game or out of game.. although don't think it would pass as a Dreadnought really.. looks more like a frigate or cruiser, but either way, I would definately fly that ship.
I don't think CCP realized exactly how much ship design would mattter to the playerbase.. For instance, I have never seen anyone flying that monstrous creation known as Scythe.. and personally, while I would prefer a Moa as my high-end cruiser because of it's extra mid slot, I fly a Rupture because I absolutely hate the look of the Moa..
Some of the current in-game models are completly and totally un-flyable because of how ugly they are.. so why not maybe just replace them with some of these designs. :)
Although I'm sure we all would much rather have new ship choices to go with them :)

My vote for stormhawk as well...Looks awsome from every angle,tho judging by the size of what i assume is it's command section,it's looks more like a very large cruiser or a small battleship at most,so either make the command section smaller or the rest of the ship bigger relative to it.....Just my 0.2 cents on what is an awsome design tho..

Minmatar Destroyer "Hound"
As someone said about current cruisers that they have no speed to avoid fire nor armor to sustain damage. The ship you can see here is in between cruisers and frigates. It's small enough to be a problem for heavy turrets but have a power to mount two medium turrets. Hope that coming destroyer class would be close to this.
This ship uses dual 720mm howitzer which is actually two separate howitzers assembled into single turret. It takes two med-slots and have decreased tracking and fitting requirements but almost doubled rate of fire. And it looks cool I think.
