Ok mrs demanding: I love this game to bits! I like the way you can put different gadgets on your ship to make it suitable to different scenarios, you are not just stuck with the ship as its given to you. Also, you can be right clever with it - there are lots of unexpected results from skills and bonuses. This is a game with real technical depth and variety. I'm constanly trying to take the next step. Once you have achieved something, theres always something else.Boredom? Doesn't happen. And: Those ships I keep seeing whizzing about are actually people, you can talk to them and stuff. Wow ! Seriously brilliant game, and I should know, I remember when they invented the Home Computer (I stll use my A1200) and I've owned all the significant game consoles and played hundreds of games.

What i like about EVE is that u actually need a bit more intelligence to play it. It`s just not a game where the player with the bigger guns always wins. Another hing i like is that no matter what kind of fitting your enemy uses, if u think for a minute you will always find a way to counter it. "WE'RE SORRY, SOMETHING HAPPENED" |

I love how it gives more freedom an any other MMO (that I know of). I love the industrial side of the game, but blowing stuff up is also fun :). I would rather be flying around in a ship then riding on the back of some stupid purple lizard. ----------------

Eve > Elite = Win
Elite is still the greatest, Elite > EVE.
Elite required manual docking, and was a twitch based flying game.
It included piracy, trade, military missions, bounty hunting and the mining of asteroids. The money generated by these enterprises allows players to upgrade their ships with such enhancements as better weapons, shields, increased cargo capacity, an automated docking system, and more. Wait, sound familiar at all? Of course, EVE doesn't need the automated docking system, apart from the Nyx.
How is a point and click greater than that, and that is a game that is over 20 years old?!

Constructive, or Positive?
People can say plenty of constructive things about EVE that aren't positive. For example, the petition system is too slow, there are ship imbalances that need to be addressed, and some game mechanics are deeply flawed. None of these are positive, but bringing legitimate issues to light will help get them fixed as long as you aren't mired in whining and flaming.
But for some purely positive thoughts, there is no other game like EVE and honestly, I don't think there ever will be. Until EVE 2. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.81 (Updated 4/8) |

The decision making process required when playing EVE is intricate, demanding, and always a challenge.
It requires a continual commitment to a planning process that enables a player to uniquely craft a set of moves toward self-set goals and directions.
It has a rich environment of options to intrigue any player who thrives on problem-solving content and the unknown.
It satisfies a need for the hunt, for accomplishment, for measurable success.
It can be frustrating, but all in all, it is great fun...

that's what I was thinking. there's a difference there :)
I love EVE for what it has that you just don't find in other games. Scamming, stealing, griefing is completely within the rules of the game. completely free career choice, more choices than any other game that I have ever played I for one hate the kindergarten mentality that most MMO's seem to have where they must protect the (stupid) user from being tricked and make everything as simple and dumbed down as they possibly can. People never learn that way, it's a shame.

Well.. blowing the asteroid up and collecting the pieces I guess is mining. They were called mining lasers afterall.
You forgot the police (vipers ftw ;P), trading in narcotics + slaves, different security levels on systems (ok, government type, but we all knew what it meant. 0.0 ~ Anarchy system anyone? )
Elite&Eve, brilliant games.

The depth. The variety. The people.
Eve has by far one of the most interesting back stories of any game. It shows the designers trully put their heart into making this game. Its completely sandbox. ur not restricted in anyway except for skills, theres no your race/class restrictions. I started as a fckin miner, now i fly battleships, and am toying with the idea of getting a cap ship. It went from, hey ill just sitt in a barge all day mining, to X me up i wanna PEWWW!
And most of all, The people. Yes there are some people with their heads up their ass, but the beauty is they dont last in EVE. Which keeps the player base rather level, I dont think ive ever played with some tweeked out 13 y/o rageing with A.D.D. in EVE, you can bet your ass i have in every other game. But its not about the people it weeds out, its about the people who stay. I had been fortunate enough to find a great corp with even greater players about 2 months into my EVE life, and i can honestly say i consider these people friends, if even E-Freinds (TM). When you find the right people its just like a big family. Albiet one that pokes fun at each other.
EVE was the MMO i was always looking for, just a shame i didnt find it a few years earlier

To give some perspective I got burnt out and left eve for a few months. There are no other alternatives that provide such a brutal and complex environment with a science fiction theme.
Also the ships look cooler that doing 100 x 6 hour raids to get the g-string of +10 intelligence.

Single "shard" universe.
Vast number of pursuits/careers to follow.
To live or to die means something. You'll never get the jitters from staring a "respawn" in the face.
Never played WOW or any other MMO, EVE was my first, but just got back from Age of Conan, and the PVP is meaningless. Kill/die, doesn't matter... unless you write it down you don't know who killed you. Ganking someone means just as much of a waste of your time as theirs, no loot, no nothing.
When I first entered the EVE universe 2 years ago (on a different character) I was ruthlessly destroyed. For 2 years I've kept the knave's name in my address book... lo' through my travels and occupations I have never lost his name. Soon retribution comes. And when I blast him and take his stuff, he will feel pain. No other game (that I know of) offers that.

It's very easy:
Eve Online is the best MMO out there and the only one thats worth playing. It's the consequences thing that kept me in Eve... in Eve if you suck then you'll lose everything whereas in (most) other MMOs people that suck are not punished.. they are simply rewarded less then the "pro gamers" and I really really hate that... (not because i consider myself a pro gamer or anything but simply because a game is only fun if you can also lose.. and painfully!)
Survival of the fittest and none of this "let's all win and play together in happy happy lala land"..

1. Well, Eve is the only MMO that has made me log in BEFORE work at 6am, just to adjust those buy/sell orders!! That must say something for how addicted I am!
2. The graphics are awesome!
3. The ships are brilliantly designed, and speak volumes about the race that made them.
4. There is no "level 50 blues" as there is in WoW. Basically, you reach level 50 in WoW, and you have a choice. Go for end game and sign away RL, or sit grinding mobs into eternity. None of that in Eve, you can go do what you want.

Edited by: Nightsheir on 29/05/2008 21:07:02 Really, the only reason i play eve is that it only has 1 server , and everybody is playing in it .
So now , once somebody says "im playing eve" , you know that you can meet him . Unlike wow , with many shards and many people . Its so disturbing , you work so hard to own some part of wow map , but suddenly realize that you are just a paying sheep in 1 of 2000 shards out there lol and you own nothing of the game map. Wasted effords , money , time.
When the chinese eve shard came out , i was about to quit this game . But looks like, it was only created to keep unwanted people out of the original server. If more shards are to be created, i will surely quit this game. And yes, boost amarr . Tired of playing with laser toyguns. |

Some thing nice about the game huh?
Sure the game is fun to a point and a heck of alot better than TV most of the time.
Nevertheless, CCP on the other hand does it's level best to screw it up, as well as screw the player base over in so many new, creative and exciting ways.
In summary: The game is good but could be better. CCP couldn't be any worse.
FYI: The is just about the most positive thing I have written about this game in near 4 years.

- It keeps me from living in the pub and thus being a complete alcoholic. - Listening to corp mates on vent and not being able to coordinate an op cos we are ****ing ourselves laughing. - People whining in local when you blow them up and then asking to join your gang/corp. - The thrill of chase and kill. It's simple really.
Those who enjoy the game - majority - simply play it. The vocal minority is just very loud and the most motivated to complain here. And even most of them mostly like it - otherwise they wouldn't be here and put time in complaining about some stuff.
Also many people simply don't understand game design and balancing issues. For them it's just a particular feature that they thing should be changed so that their favourite ship gets/stays better. --- ISK BUYER = LOOSER EVE TV- Bring it back!

Edited by: Macmuelli on 02/06/2008 11:35:53 I personal think positiv about eve:
This universe is endless, and will grow step by step.( as long the Bilanz between incoming real money and investments are positiv, the server will not close) It can push your creativity a lot, and can let u dream. ( same as u look in a clear night up in the sky. What is out there?)
I compare eve with a child. It grows step by step and got his experiences in a negativ and postive way. Mistakes can hurt u for the moment if it takes the full effect on u. But in the end its forgotten. This game is not 100% calculated with an perfect optic an "bonbon-effect". Everything is possible ( if u take a look into the politcs inside eve). The community have the possibilty to speak to CCP via the CSM project and his voted candidates. A way like this, is a chance to take an real effect to the game. At least your interest will take a place in there inside roundtables and will be discussed .
my thoughts about eve
This game has place since 4.5 years inside my life. I will play it, as long i can see it has an endless way of possibiltys, and peoples behind ccp bring his "heartblood" inside it.

Well, I've been playing EVE for 4 years now and despite recent, erm, consternations, I have no intention of stopping. Put simply, it's the darkest, most ambitious, and most "realistic" MMOG out there, which is why I play. There's so much possibility to do anything (the "sandbox"), there's real consequences for your actions (lose a ship? hard luck!), and there's all sorts of unrealised depth to it.
Oh, and me loves the spaceships!
(This is not to say that there are not big gaping flaws in the game... but even with them it's still the best :) ) ____________________

The sheer scale of EVE is what keeps me here. And the fact you can do anything. (well, almost) And the skill system. There is nothing I have ever seen that can even compare to the genius of the time based skill training.
And finally, the server side stuff. The tech there is astounding for an MMO, or any game for that matter. -Will start 30 minutes late only to get podded on the way up- |

(From Dev chat) :
"Ginger: Well we are hoping the whole dynamic of factional warfare, in that its much easier to get a fight and know where to go to fight will help get new players directly in the action. But also the areas and missions where you can only fly the basic ships, such as dungeons that only allow tech 1 frigates so it doesnt cost a fortune to participate and you can dont neccesarily have to face players who can fly much better equipped ships than you."
My reply: Thank you! It will be nice to start PvPing against (potentially) defeatable opponents with easily affordable ships, without needing to worry too much about getting ganked by extremely superior forces. This will probably do much to help lure more people like me into PvP. Awesome, thanks devs!!!

Well.. blowing the asteroid up and collecting the pieces I guess is mining.
The greatest thing for me in Elite, and still to this day one of the most fantastic things to do in games was manually flying to a planet based installation, taking photos of it while evading the response and then getting away. There is something very satisfying in the skill needed to have your ship come in fast, slow, stop and then run in a smooth movement of real physics.
Eve could take something from this: It would be a good faction mission to find an enemy mission / ship / player and photograph it. I think photo's in general should be brought in, an in game screenshot system would bring out the artists.

Some of the things Eve did right.
-Making it player driven game instead of script driven game. I'm still looking for a good script driven game but from a design standpoint player dirven games are easier to make and allow for a lot of fun to be had as long as there are enough tools for the players to work with. Also by being player driven the social/gaming politics that emerge from this game have made it entertaining to people who aren't even playing the game. I guarantee a large amount of people were attracted to this game in large part by the human drama that occurs in this game.
-The custimization options for fittings I've loved custimizing since battletech and Eve fulfills the funto be had with experimenting in that manner.

This isn't a parody of anything. I started this thread because I personally was tired of seeing thread after thread on these forums full of nothing but whines.
I just wanted to see if all this community did was complain about everything. Whine threads about nerfs, whine threads about ganking, whine threads about faction warfare, whines about ambulation, the list is almost endless. Any thread started that said anything even remotely positive about this game seemed to turn into a flame-fest.
So you see, this is a thread started by a fan of this game, though not a fanboi, who wanted to know if they were the only one who found something about this game that bought a smile to their face everytime they logged in, rather than yet another reason to complain.
Hope that clears things up a bit.

I get new content, new graphics engines, new network backbones (working with cisco), new server hardware coming, new ships, new modules, new areas of space, and I STILL just pay 15 bucks a month. No expansions to buy, no price hike, same price, more game.
That's pure fkn win right there. AND it's something I brag to all my friends still playing wow. Like every possible chance I get. Sig removed, lacks Eve-related content. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

I hate MMO's. I vowed to never play one. 2+ yrs ago i was bored and clicked an EVE link on a random website. Here i am today. I even gave in and tried other MMO's within the past 6 months, yeah, nothing compares.

Holding territory in an imaginary universe. :p
I was just thinking about that last night - how I was thinking of territory in real terms and thinking through the defense of it and I realized I am thinking about bits on a massive hard drive somewhere and yet when you immerse yourself it feels like so much more...

Time to get this thread back up top. The first 3 pages of threads on this forum seeem to be almost completely composed of whine threads, lets see if this makes a difference

I can build stuff.
You can be a complete noob and still be useful in a gang.
Quafe.
Faction warfare and ambulation are coming out. Rock on.
Lasers.
I can play many different types of careers - combat pilot, miner, manufacturer, researcher, explorer, pirate.
No elves.
The game is set in frickin space. |

1. I don't swing my axe to mine stuff.
2. I give myself orders when doing stuff - "All ahead full Mr. Dauntless!"
3. Made a new account on runescape to troll people. Ran away soon thereafter.
Go eve.

Edited by: Mankirks Wife on 08/06/2008 16:24:50 1) Everyone in WoW is still looking for me in the Barrens when I'm really in Jita 4-4 looking at market orders all day for my new master.
2) What Eve is about is up to you. There's as few restrictions as possible, if you get a wild hair up your ass and decide you want to do X today, odds are better than not that you can as long as it somehow relates to Eve.
3) Bad guys in Eve are real people, not NPCs who wait around in caves for people to murder them for their clothes.
4) ******s for the most part hate this game, so you don't see many of them.
5) It's all player driven.
6) As someone above me said - it's Eve, nothing else like it

Something positive? I'm a pretty hard person to please and entertain on a consistant basis but Eve still has me paying for 4 subs every month. To those who know me personally thats saying something.

EDIT: Just a little clarification for the people who want to scream "fanboi" in here, im not a fanboi, i know CCP isnt perfect but it doesnt need to be said anymore than this one time in this thread.
EDIT: changed the title hoping to get a better response (hopefully)
EDIT: Title changed yet again due to vast amounts of whineage on front page
so your whining about whining and had to edit yourself 3 times to whine ?

No Im not whining about whiners per se, I just wanted to see people saying nice things for a change, and I tried to give a reasonable explanation as to why. And if you check those edit dates, you'll see that they well spaced apart (except the last one when I edited a spelling error). I hope that clears things up somewhat.
EDIT: Because I can. You should also compare the first edit date to the date of the original post.
