Shame that this thread has turned from a 'football' (or soccer) to a 'who can bash harder, the Yanks or the Rest Of The world?'.
The Superbowl is shown live in Britain and has been since the 80's (it was recorded and edited before that). Because, this year, it was shown on the BBC it managed to gain just over a million viewers, before that it was 600k or so average. I suspect those figures can be pretty much repeated for around Europe, except maybe Germany had a little bit more.
Football in the UK attracts more than 20mil viewers every Saturday without fail (and many more millions who go to watch live, from the big teams to the Saturday pub players). It is shown live, recorded and repeated throughout the week again and again and still attracts millions. This can be translted to the 150 counties around the world registered with UEFA who play Association Football (or 'soccer' if that is your wish). NO OTHER GAME in the world is played by more people or watched by more people than Football. Its not always of the highest quality or offers the most excitement but it is always popular.
The EUFA is damn determined to promote soocer in the US, its willing to help the MLS in anyway it can to gain a popular foothold in the American culture as this is the one country in the world that still doesnt really recognise soccer as a great game (its getting more and more popular but its not attracting the diehard fans from the other sports). By the same score, the people in charge of American Football are trying as hard as they can to promote American Football into Europe with more high profile games being played over here. They have promised that again, next season, a league match will be played at Wembley Stadium after it attracted over 70k fans to the stadium.
So it seems both sides are actively pressing home a desire for more fans because more fans = more revenue.
I have nothing, per se, against Baseball (we get live games here in the UK) or American Football (also shown live sometimes but the BBC are trying to sign a deal to show edited highlights from ESPN). I think Baseball CAN be extremely tedious at times and American Football doesnt flow fast enough, too many commercials, time-outs etc. However, they can be enjoyable and I will tune in if im awake that late at night. I always watch MOTD abd live games if I can. It, also, can be boring but at least it flows imho.
Tbh, the ONLY thing that ****es me off about American sports is the desire to call themselves 'world champions' in games that only they really play. If they could remove from their psyche this little bit of sillyness it would be better for the sport as a whole. People could learn to respect that. As it is, people laugh instead.

PS: The England v's USA game was mostly boring, insipid and uninspiring. Whereas the Wales v's Iceland game was exciting and inspiring
PPS: I hear CCP are increasing subs for any welsh players that they can find

These sports threads always do turn into a ego-fest unfortunately. In fact I'm seeing a rather large increase lately of nationality E-strokage in threads.
I'm ashamed of the fact that this time around it's the Americans looking like complete ass's and trying to tell everyone whats better when it's opinion based and not fact based. In fact the thread was about 1 game of 1 sport and not about sports in general. Reading comp FTL I guess.

Might be a toss up between 1 and 2, but they are played in different seasons so it's hard to tell.
And honestly I only posted because the op seemed like he wanted an opinion from accross the pond. It wasn't televised here, wasn't reported on any of the major networks.....hell most of us didn't even know we had a team. We just don't care about soccer.

Give me paintball any day of the week over all the other sports.

Funny how the rest of the players in the world come to America to play for a championship in basketball, baseball, and football.
And I'd absolutely LOVE to see the US All-Stars against the Brit All-Stars in...well, any of the three sports I mentioned.

those crazy yanks pulled this stupid WWE **** there, i couldnt believe it. you know, fat men dressed up in colorful spandex costumes, insulting each other before the races.
i dont know what america lost that day... was it their mind? their pride?
i only know they havent gotten it back so far
maybe the americans would have won the soccer game against the brits, if the british team captain would have been talking crap for 20 minutes, while wearing a cape and a hood.

America doesn't care about soccer. Yeah, there are a few people here and there that like the sport, but our country as a whole doesn't care. At least at this moment. Its possible we could in the future.
As for everyone else attacking America in this thread. I don't know what your problem is but thread was started by a non-American in an attempt to get a response from us. When you didn't get the response you where looking for, as we just said "LOLwut, soccer? We have a team?", you resort to bashing our country. Then once you finally get one idiot (every country has them, even yours) to give you the response you've been looking for you accuse all of us for being idiots. Good job and making yourselves look stupid.
I still don't care about soccer and as of right now nether does the rest of America. Its a game. Nothing else. It has nothing to do with any country politically as a whole. The fact we didn't participate in it for such a long period of time means nothing. We just didn't have any interest in it.

You will notice how I havent bashed your favourite sports, I havent said they are crap ive only said that I only wish you wouldnt claim to be world champions in games (no matter that some of your players come from other countries) that no one else really plays. Britain (or insert country of your choice) doesnt have a National team in your favourite sports. The guys that play are all fans that emulate that sport but they have no real skill. And even if they did, and even if it is was good or merely competent, your favourite soprts of Baseball, Foorball and Basketball doesnt do international 'world champion' competitions for the sports anyway. Its all american centric.

i dont know if "monster truck racer" is just a typo or the name of the specific event where the audience obviously needs all this spandex bull**** around the event.
monster trucks are great. big cars spreading carnage. what could be better?

and they bashed each other, brainless wwe style.

i cba to look if there are any interesting stories about that crap out there, im signing off in a mo.
but i can tell you for sure it was a major station and it was a major event, too. its been a while, probably over 10 years, but the image still haunts me. it totally freaked me out, i was like "oh ****, now they lost it." which kept me from remembering any important details, like the station or the whereabouts. i think it might have been espn tho.
and they did exactly what i told you. wrestling drama. in between the races. and you could tell, just by looking at the shape of the people, that those guys in the (really really silly) costumes where NOT the drivers, who they pretended to be.
weird you didnt see that... how old are you?

I'll be pushing 30 in 2 weeks. While I'm not an avid monster truck watcher (although I do enjoy it) I do not recall a single moment in history where drivers dressed up like wrestlers with the exception of what I just showed with Major Pain.
Even further basing a sport off of some random event that happened over a decade ago seems pretty silly.

Man living in Europe would be great just for the football. I can also say that I much rather listen to football announced by Latin announcers. They put so much life into the game.
The thing I said before, an oppinion from an outside view, was that Englands issues with national competition is that the hearts of the fans and the national team players are with their clubs teams not the national team. I wish that the US had this problem for it is so  very hard being a football fan in the land of "football".
As for the US national team, they will get there. How soon has yet to be determined, my prediction is by 2018, lmao not that really matters here, just stating since that is what I say in general discussion in real life.
Ditto to the first guy who brought up rugby. Rugby is the grrreat!!!

Why post about it, if you don't care? The OP wasn't saying "Hey, America sucks, we beat you at a sport!". The OP was just talking about a football match, in the way that all football matches tend to get talked about, and which presumably does matter to some people somewhere.
Why get involved if you don't care?
Well, OK, now it's just a generic "my sport's better than yours" flamefest and there's every reason to get involved. Its why I'm posting, after all. But it needn't have gone that way, as far as the actual OP is concerned.
