The current Corporate Hangar system is very useful, but is unfortunately limited to corporation members only. Alliances should be able to establish offices (set up by alliance executor corporation), and have thier own Hangars as well. Access rights would be sorted at the corporation level (example: Corp A has access to all divisions, Corp B has access to divisions 1,3,and 5, etc.) There would need to be an additional Corporate interface command to allow particular corp members access to the Alliance Hangar. I feel this is a good idea because different corporations tend to emphasize different activities and there should be a method of sharing materials and goods between corporations independent of the ofttimes clunky contract method. An example of an alliance hangar in action: Mining corporations drop all ores and minerals into division 1, and all ice and ice products into division 2. Manufacturing corps pull minerals and ore from division 1, builds ships, mods, and ammo and deposits them into divisions 3, 4, and 5, respectively. Combat oriented corps then access divs 3, 4, and 5 to pull out that gear to supply the ever-hungry war machine. This is just one example of how an alliance hangar could be utilized, and is by no means the only way to utilize alliance hangars. In conclusion, the ability to utilize hangars designed for alliances should increase efficiency of goods transfers between corporations within an alliance, and is therefore a pretty good idea IMO.

and how are yo going to control what ppl take out of it?
When you have a refinery and ppl can take things out of the hangar and you cant check who did it is pretty much open the door to thiefs and scamers.

I really like this idea. Alliance mechanics as far as interaction between the corps of an allaince seem a tad underdone for my liking.

I like the idea. keeping record of who takes items out/ puts items in can simply work like a corperate hanger. only corp members that have: A, Acess to the alliance hanger. B, Acess to the containers in the alliance hanger. C, Proper use of audit containers, to keep track of who puts items into the hanger containers and takes items out. D, Proper use of corperate, or in this case alliance, settings will minimise the risk that someone can just gank all the items from the hanger.
With current corp hangers its possable to limit who has acess to the corperate hangers simply by setting titles / permissions. the same could apply here. the executor alliance sets what corps can have what permisions avalable for what alliance hangers, then the individual corps within the alliance say what members of theres that they trust with the permissions to there alliance hangers.
Useing audit containers, allows tracking of corperate/alliance goods. allowing some members to put items into the corperate / alliance hangers but if the items are locked in teh container they can not remove them. only members with permissions to unlock the items, can unlock and remove the items. then all the items are tracked on the container audit log. the container can not be deleted or repackaged as long as there is an item in the log newer than 30 days, so if someone does steal something, you have a record of what was taken, and who took the item. This dosent prevent thieft completely, but nothing in eve is 100% safe except completely locking everything you own down, and never leaveing a station, and wheres the fun in that?

Gyro, you have a good point. A log that records what, when, and who gives or removes objects from the hangar would be a help in that regard (it could also be useful for large corporations' hangars as well). If something big ends up missing from the alliance hangar, it would be then traceable to the culprit. This may not prevent theft in of itself, but truly theft prevention is more a function of management. If Joe from Corp A steals all the minerals that the alliance is saving, then bails, then shouldn't the CEO from Corp A be held responsible for giving Joe alliance hangar access anyway? And if the CEO doesn't adequately correct this internal security breach, the executor corporation could restrict or prohibit alliance hangar access. So would I be able to gain your support if there was a logging feature?

I think the current hangar / permissions system and things like POS's need a major overhaul before something like this happens because otherwise they will be doing it twice. The ability to give corp roles to non corp members, and the de-coupling of roles to membership would really help. As well as more obvious things like allowing non-alliance members to use POS's via standing instead of via password (easily exploited). A complete change of the permissions and hangar systems would let things like this happen as a side effect, rather than having to code it in specially.

Good idea.
I'd also like to see an abilty to rent personal hangars which you can share with other characters. Its annoying with several alts to have to switch around all the time to exchange stuff. Could also be a nice isk sink.

Even With logs people can take stuff, and as Gyro said there really wont be a way to limit access to it memebr to member and who would want to in alliances with 300+ people would be a pain. I do however support the idea in that an alliance hanger of some sort would be good for putting ammo, cap boosters and stuff that isn't worth much but very helpful to alliance members. -------------------- I'm not not going to pod you! |

Idea seems good but combine it with a logging mechanism and we has a winner :)
Adding a log to existing Corp hanger would be good too.
