so I was reading one of the topics on Q-ships and I had an interesting idea. an NPC q-ship.
Think about it, a gank of pirates finds a hulk mining in an ice belt in .5 space, they decide to suicide gank it, they grab a pair of brutix's and move in for the kill, but when they attack the hulk, it opens fire, and before they can react a concord task force is shoved down their throats.
The Concord Q-ship would look like a normal ship in every way, up to the point where you scan it and it shows tasty cargo. But when you attack it, the ship decloaks into a concord battleship, opens fire, and calls in its mates.
I see this as a great way to make suicide ganking a lot more risky. Sure you can do it, but your playing a game of russian roulette every time you target a miner. __________________________________________________ |

This isn't such a bad idea...This is the *real* issue in Eve..Pirates never seem to take any risk in the game. They can selectively target miners who are usually ill-equipped to deal with a gang of pirates. In real life, the police would set up sting operations like this to take down the criminals. Why not add a bit of unpredictability to those who choose to grief other players.

i like the idear the Sting ship should be in a roid belt or ice belt with heavy pirate activity. its not hard to make it looke like some one is just mining afk. they could even make belt rats attack.it _____________________________________________ yawnnnnn |

JNB is a player who got tired of this, fitted his hulk for combat and went to the belts. Video I'm sure his example is followed by at least a few others.
I don't think CCP is interested in implementing NPC mechanics for activities players are already doing.

Rather than have the NPC solve your problem why not tank up a miner and just live long enough to watch Concord bake the agressors?
See the difference there? On your version you want the game to be altered in your favor. In my version you use existing game mechanics to do the same thing w/o altering the game itself.
Of course you don't want to have to sit in a belt being bait do you? You want the magic NPC fairies to do all the work.

ive seen 8 mil cruisers kill hulks before concord kills the cruiser. what you are suggesting would be nice, but its not possible if you also plan on fitting mining equipment.

Note the if.
The idea of the ship is to get idiots to Concord themselves. It's not there to be king miner. Still all you need is plate. You put some plate in your lows and you'll live to see concord eat your attacker.

What's that? You get a desirable effect in a PvP scenario by using a setup that isn't min/maxed for absolute top-level profit? The most efficient possible way to achieve wealth is somehow not the best-suited to practical situations?
HOW CAN THIS BE?
If you want to bait suicide gankers, then go bait them. It's fun, it's high-sec PvP, and it doesn't earn you a whole lot of money.
An NPC that convincingly impersonates a real miner is extremely unlikely. Would they have a name, and show up in local? What if you get info on them? What does their employment history look like? Their bio? Can you make and store notes? Does their ship scan as having modules fitted? Does ore accumulate in their cargo hold? What do they do when it's full? What do they do if you bump them away from the asteroid they're mining?

maybe instead of an NPC you could have bored GMs do it with alt accounts, it would definitely give suicide gankers a run for their money.

Yes, because they should be baiting suicide gankers instead of doing something important, such as answering those unimportant petitions. (pretty sure GMs are the ones who handle those)

This is why you fail.
Instead of asking someone else to fix our problem for you why don't you tank up a miner and fix it yourself?
Oh yeah that would require time and effort on your part. How would you feel if we "Spiced up" hauling and added NPC/GM controlled gank ships that would randomly attack haulers and miners? Don't point at belt rats either, high sec rats are a joke. I mean real cruiser, bc sized NPC that attack miners and then get concorded. That would suck wouldn't it..
