I don't want something for free... I just wanted to see the freakin jovian in whatever ship he was going to come in... some of us aren't as fortunate to have been in stain when the last jove came around....
anyways... thanks for the waste of sleep... i appreciate the birthday gift of not being able to share anything exciting at all with you guys.... LAME... it's going to be my submission to PC gamer that the Game is great and the event staff doesn't give a rats butt about it's community...
i got screenies . will post them soon as i know where. may even mail them to you if you ask politely.

traveling halfway across the universe and spending several hours in a system lagging to death for a total non-event, is not actualy asking for anything for free is it ?
The problem here is not what CCP did. The problem is with people making assumptions. You were promised nothing. You went and you received nothing at a system where you ASSUMED something would happen. Do no blame another if your assumptions based on incomplete data were incorrect.
One thing you knew for certain, there would be many others in the system and there would be a lag fest. In this you were correct. So you can't cry about that either since you went there anyway.

I'm still laughing.
You know, I don't see what the problem was. The people who wanted to see a Jovian can now see him whenever they dock, and the people who wanted to kill the Jovian didn't even have to waste ammunition doing it. Everyone wins!

maybe you CCP should get some professionals to handle your events instead of this lame cr*p ? an 8yr old child could plan better events, than your events.. there is no reason in your events. there is no bigger picture in your events. there is nothing in your events, get a grip !

mentioning a system name was a big big big mistake if you did not intend the guy showing up at all. Oh yeah, having a pic of a ship next to the first news post was a bit misleading in that same direction as well. What did we all learn today?
- Don't get peoples' hopes to see something shiny too high
- Do not get amounts of more than 200 people to visit one system
- Run more events
- Run more events where actually something happens
- Support my p&p project to be able to run your own Eve campaigns

This was absolutely hilarious.
What a brilliant bit of fun... and now you can honestly say that everyone's got a bit of Jove tech., since Jovians are their technology. :)
I really, truly laughed out loud when I read about this, and that's after loitering in New Caldari for 45 minutes, making myself late for work.
More, please!

Thank you JP Beauregard for summing up exactly what I am thinking after reading to this point in the thread.
To CCP I'd like to convey my thanks for beginning a plot that is sure to be an enjoyable experience for those with an iota of imagination.
As for the Jove, I suppose we'll never see him again. I had a fresh piece of liver in my hangar and fried it up. Was the tenderest piece of meat. Went great with a side of mashed Fredo, a BBBB Soylent Green salad and the ever popular mOo Shake (with a dash of Spirits for that added "zing").
Cheers! W.W.

I have mixed sentiments about the event.
While I feel it was a waste of my prescious sleep time to stay up and take part in it. It was after all quite fun, and I enjoyed puzzling out what was going on.
I had it figured out rather early... but wasn't sure till the billboards displayed the news of the tragic death of the Jove Pioneer.
The possibilities of this event lead me to two possible conclusions:
1: Black market is about to expand and become viable. 2: Interbus is on it's way soon(tm) style.
In the end I find myself feeling that familair sensation I get when I watch a movie where the hero HAS to die for the plot to work out for the best.
Like the end of the Professional...
If the jove hadn't have died, and he had done his tour and handed out lolipops and jump drives... I would have been happy for a little while... But disapointed in the long run.
Today for a brief hour, I felt like EVE was alive, and "happening." Which is a good feeling.
I think another thing that made this whole thing more bearable for me than so many other people was that I do not subscribe the sheep/herd/flocking mentality...
I knew 90% of the interested players would be in NC... Most of them probably didn't bother to extrapolate the likely "tour route" the jove was going to take, or they wanted to be at the first leg of the trip to make sure that they could pod him before he got anywhere...
I knew CCP would not let the latter happen, so I opted to wait further down on the rout...
So there was about 70-80, maybe up to 90 people luminaire judging by local. No lag whatsoever, and tons of interesting and funny chatter on the com channels.
I was about to go to a station to buy a small secure can so I could name it "Welcome Jove emissairy! Take me to you leader!" When I heard the news about him being splattered, and smiled that my earlier decuctions had been proven true.
Altogether I give this event a 10 for writing and immersion, and a 4 for implementation. As far as fun factor goes I give it a 7, mainly because nothing really happened.
so overal I'd give the event a solid 7.
Hope to see more in the very near future!

Ok Im at work but can someone answer me a couple of questions please as I dont really have a clue what you are talking about:
1. These 'shards' which you speak of, did EVERYONE get one ie everyone with an active subscription or just everyone who was in local at the time ??
2. If it was EVERYONE ie me too, how was in determined which hangar the thing appeared in ie I have stuff in many many stations ?
3. How are alts treated ie if I had 2 alts did they get something too ?
I may be way off the mark with my interpretation of what y'all are banging on about but I might as well ask in an attempt to break up the bun fight.
For those who did actually expect some uber event .....has history taught you nothing ?
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

I am utterly disgusted by the level of immaturity, the lack of roleplaying and the stupidness of many of the players of EVE that today was at new caldari, I have given up some profitable mining yesterday and today to be there to meet the jovians that was coming with a new technology, ok the jovians plans was destined to fail til the start, to me was perfectly cool thing. gave a big project to be made to retrive the various pieces of the poor jovian scientist..... the kill of the peaceful ambassador that came to tell us what happened was... stupid, and needless, and pretty much ruined the event, expecially by some guy using an alternate named 'killthejovies' or something like that.. the constant whining about the lags and the absolutely stupid attacks to the CPP(sp?) pretty much ruined the event, and that is NOT because of the CCP but of the stupid players who cannot stay put and silent for 5 minutes straight. as an INGAME consequencies I'd really hope that whathever the jovians was letting us have, that new cool technology won't be made advailale to us permanently, if would be for me, the jovies would send huge battleships and kill every single sentient life in the galaxy... but thankfully, they are better than us, it's a shame that the best people always dies first.. at the hands of the wrost idiots around. the best we can do is... totally ignore these idiots, isolate them, not let them interact anymore with anybody, eventually they will shutup and learn or DIE HORRIBLY OF SOLITUDE, which I hope. fine fine I am way too mad currently to give a good point of view for the event, just know that in my view for now it was ruined by PLAYER GRIEFERS or better, who griefed both the CPP and the players partecipated the event, and in my view their account should be quit.
note well: if they had a REAL ingame reason to try to kill the jovian, to hate them, and so on the kill of the poor jovian would have been perfectly fine for me my character would have gotten mad/upset ingame, but that was just a RANDOM action done by someone called with an absolutely stupid name who had NO REAL REASON TO DO IT. and don't feed me with the usual crap 'it's just a game' because YES it is a game, and we are supposed to have fun in the game, but some people are RUINING THE FUN of the other players and this is, wrong. and don't feed me the usual crap of 'if you don't like the game go away' because it is not the GAME wrong the game is absolutely fun and cool to play, it's the IDIOTIC PEOPLE who ruin it.

I've got to rate this event highly over all.
The naming of a system was unfortunate, given the average EVE player's tendancy to follow sheeplike to systems during an event, regardless of popularity, volume of traffic and the like.
On the other hand, the event achieved a lot:
1. An amusing expansion to the Jove plot, with the promise of new stuff over the coming weeks.
2. Every player got something to celebrate the 1st Anniversary of EVE.
3. It was something that even those of us unable to log in and travel to a timed event could enjoy, rather than get missed out by. Watching it all unfold over the news and forums has made a dull afternoon highly entertaining.

What went right with the event:
Great plot. Entertaining, funny in its own tragic little way, and generally a nice addition to the story line so far. No complaints there.
What went wrong with the event:
Unless this was planned as a server test, it was very poorly executed. Replace "arriving New Caldari at 12:00 EVT" with "arriving undisclosed locations to visit heads of state" and you would have saved yourself a huge amount of angst. People would not have wasted the time traveling to/being at the various systems mentioned, which ended up being unnecessary since you gave out Jovian bits to everyone anyway.
If this WAS in part a server test, then likewise poorly executed. REWARD those people who made the effort and spent the time to show up. I don't mean handing out Tech II BPs. You already had little Jovian bits to give out, why not give them to the people that actually attended the event instead of strewing them across all of EVE? It would be just as plausible that the Jovian pieces ended up along his planned route instead of everywhere else.
KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. While I completely disagree with the whining morons who generally populated New Cal, the reality is these are PAYING whining morons and, more importantly, they ARE your audience whether you like them or not. And rule 1 of dealing with whining morons is DON'T MAKE THEM WAIT. Sitting for an hour in a system to find out about a non-event that could have been related in the first 10 minutes is painful enough to us rational, calm folks. Further, while technically challenging, it would have been far more effective to drop body parts into people's cargo holds instead of their hangars. You would of had a lot more people wondering what these little body bits were and potentially genuinely interested in the story, and a lot fewer people whining in local chat.
Anyway, just my initial observations at 7am local time. Hope you are all wearing your asbestos underwear.

Heh, there was written "PHAT LEWT" on most of the faces of those 550 people in New Caldari. I guess they didn't except bits of bone in that loot.
Nice joke of sorts, but it shows to me the one major problem with Eve: Lots of space, not much in it. Put more stuff in it like events, CCP. Please. I'm tired of the story arc mostly revolving around news posts. I want to get my hands dirty.

Are we having a party? 'Cause someone sure brought a lot of WHINE!
GO CCP! Thanks for putting some action into Eve, and not just pumping out news with no impact at all on the world (What is up with the cathedral? NOTHING is happening there! Not even repair crews!)
Lighten up people, this is the beginning of great things. There is one thing that I would like to complain about though:
WHAT IS UP WITH ALL THE SPAMMING, EVENT-SPOILING, IMMATURE PEOPLE who does not have it in them to shut up and listen? Local is for ROLEPLAY during events, or at least meaningful comments. You wan't to say every little thing on your mind, do it to your friends in a private channel for crying out loud. READ THE EVENT GUIDELINES. Grow the heck up.

Unfortunatly i wasnt able to participate in this event, I was at college and still am now :(
I think the outcome of the event was spot on. We couldnt really have expected something like the introduction of jumpdrives anyway, to start with titans arnt even released yet. This way, everyone gets something, albeit a bit of flesh or whatever, at least theyre trying to allow more ppl to participate in the event. I cant comment on the lag cos I wasnt there, but its better than having one of the big alliances get everything like they usually do. __________________________________________________

Too bad I missed it :-/ ... was at work. Anyway, I hope this prepares for something BIG, something that forces to roleplay a little.
Of those those attending the event, how many do you think were roleplaying? And how many do you think were waiting for the ³ber loot?

Lighten up people...
CCP made a mistake YES. Their mistake was including the systems he would visit and the time in the news post.
Other then that there was no error on CCP's side. This is the beginning of a story involving the Jove..it has to begin somewhere and this was it, it was never about uber loot and whatnot...
The Jove was never supposed to arrive even...
The is the beginning of a STORY and not an EVENT...
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.
