FFS... this was lame... Thanks CCP for keeping me up all night just to see his shard in EVERYONE's hangar.... at least you could have made it worthwhile for ISK or something to the people in the system at downtime to test your **** nodes.... oh wait that's right you probably had your IT department run this event huh? like the art department ran the last event?
Kthx
LAME EVENT... though IT guys aren't really THAT creative... so i guess the Soon (tm) comment was an attempt at humor... cuz IT guys are REALLY funny to... (sarcasm meter 100%) Neslo

Bit of a disapointment, everyone had his alts at Oris. Only ones that attended with their mains seemed to be PIE.
Also, the lag..tbh i hadnt any lag, jumping into Amarr took me about 5 seconds! Warping and loading the station took me about 10. Good job!

I've never felt so dissapointed about anything in eve as much as I do over this event. I never expected to get anything out of it, considering the number of people who would turn up. But it wouldhave been nice for there to actually have been an event.
Instead we get 2 news items and waste a lot of peoples time.. well done... I'm logging and off to play something entertaining now since I'm stuck in a stupid system when there was actually no reason for me going. First event I've even bothered to attend since I'm normally at work, and its definatly the last.

This was most the ridicilous thing ever. If CCP wanted to say "screw you all" to us, they could just outright done it, not waste our time with a pointless lagfest turning into nothing. You end up with 500+ people on local moaning and yelling displaying a level of maturity that drops to new low's.
Please CCP for the future, stop waste our time, dont stage events because frankly you guys are no good at it. You made me and probably many others feel very cheated today. And one unit of "Complex Fullerene and Epidermis Silver" wont change that fact.

Edited by: Neslo on 06/05/2004 13:05:58 I think this event is about the same as the tortured prisoners in Iraq.... It's about as tasteful and about as inhumane to those that took time off... sacrificed sleep to share something on your dang birthday....
I hope honestly someone gets fired.... Or something gets explained on the dev blog....
That's my personal thoughts though...

Actually Veniel is in Caldari Prime collecting the body parts, so if you are close with your main you can try your luck.
The problem is that with 500+ players in the area it makes things quite difficult. If you played your alt specially for the occasion don't complain... Nuponi Nimedaz: "You're a pilot after my own heart, Alastra." |

I don't see what the problem was, nobody was promised anything. The community worked itself into an unfullfillable hype. I enjoyed this event, even if the Jovian didn't physically come through the systems. And I doubt it is over already, this might have some effects sooner or later. (Then again, I am a role player, I enjoy events for the sake of the event, not necessarily the aftermath.)
Although I was hoping on using today to supply myself with cruise missiles from all the potential suicider's loot cans outside Oris.

ROFLMAO! Best. Event. Ever.
A lot of people get themselves worked up about blowing up the Jove ship and getting l33t loot!!1! Instead the Jove spontaneously blows up by himself and IS the l33t loot!
Seriously people, you all have yourselves to blame for getting worked up about getting something. About the only bad thing is people not getting to see a Jove ship, but there will be other chances for this.

/me just imaginates the reason how those body parts was scattered along the whole galaxy just to end right in my hangar. Normally only CEOs and Security officers should be able to put something in my hangar, oh, I forgot... Jovians are able too
EDIT: if those body parts where scattered somewhere outside the stations in some belt it might be okay. But this way it sounds like a "plan b" for something that don't work.

Nice plot twist. At last .-)
In all other respects, the hour I spent in NC this afternoon supplied incontrovertible evidence that the vast majority of EVE players need to be
(a) neutered (b) lobotomized (c) ground into dog food.
In that order.

Yer mentioning the system was a major mistake... given the undying persistance of the masses to spam a system... D'oh eh?
Soooooooo far more importantly than muppets stuck in dock, what's going to happen next? Eh? Eh?
Shame the Jove acknowledged it was a technological malfunction. I was hoping it would have been sabotage... I kinda like the idea of a Jove invasion. Bah.

The problem here is not what CCP did. The problem is with people making assumptions. You were promised nothing. You went and you received nothing at a system where you ASSUMED something would happen. Do no blame another if your assumptions based on incomplete data were incorrect.
One thing you knew for certain, there would be many others in the system and there would be a lag fest. In this you were correct. So you can't cry about that either since you went there anyway.
BTW, someone said the whole EVE community was ****ed off. Not true. I am a member of the EVE community and I am not ****ed off. More like, ammused. Stellar Products and Quality Resources ticker: SPQR established 6-03

I'm still laughing.
You know, I don't see what the problem was. The people who wanted to see a Jovian can now see him whenever they dock, and the people who wanted to kill the Jovian didn't even have to waste ammunition doing it. Everyone wins!

maybe you CCP should get some professionals to handle your events instead of this lame cr*p ? an 8yr old child could plan better events, than your events.. there is no reason in your events. there is no bigger picture in your events. there is nothing in your events, get a grip !

mentioning a system name was a big big big mistake if you did not intend the guy showing up at all. Oh yeah, having a pic of a ship next to the first news post was a bit misleading in that same direction as well. What did we all learn today?
- Don't get peoples' hopes to see something shiny too high
- Do not get amounts of more than 200 people to visit one system
- Run more events
- Run more events where actually something happens
- Support my p&p project to be able to run your own Eve campaigns

This was absolutely hilarious.
What a brilliant bit of fun... and now you can honestly say that everyone's got a bit of Jove tech., since Jovians are their technology. :)
I really, truly laughed out loud when I read about this, and that's after loitering in New Caldari for 45 minutes, making myself late for work.
More, please!

Thank you JP Beauregard for summing up exactly what I am thinking after reading to this point in the thread.
To CCP I'd like to convey my thanks for beginning a plot that is sure to be an enjoyable experience for those with an iota of imagination.
As for the Jove, I suppose we'll never see him again. I had a fresh piece of liver in my hangar and fried it up. Was the tenderest piece of meat. Went great with a side of mashed Fredo, a BBBB Soylent Green salad and the ever popular mOo Shake (with a dash of Spirits for that added "zing").
Cheers! W.W.

I have mixed sentiments about the event.
While I feel it was a waste of my prescious sleep time to stay up and take part in it. It was after all quite fun, and I enjoyed puzzling out what was going on.
I had it figured out rather early... but wasn't sure till the billboards displayed the news of the tragic death of the Jove Pioneer.
The possibilities of this event lead me to two possible conclusions:
1: Black market is about to expand and become viable. 2: Interbus is on it's way soon(tm) style.
In the end I find myself feeling that familair sensation I get when I watch a movie where the hero HAS to die for the plot to work out for the best.
Like the end of the Professional...
If the jove hadn't have died, and he had done his tour and handed out lolipops and jump drives... I would have been happy for a little while... But disapointed in the long run.
Today for a brief hour, I felt like EVE was alive, and "happening." Which is a good feeling.
I think another thing that made this whole thing more bearable for me than so many other people was that I do not subscribe the sheep/herd/flocking mentality...
I knew 90% of the interested players would be in NC... Most of them probably didn't bother to extrapolate the likely "tour route" the jove was going to take, or they wanted to be at the first leg of the trip to make sure that they could pod him before he got anywhere...
I knew CCP would not let the latter happen, so I opted to wait further down on the rout...
So there was about 70-80, maybe up to 90 people luminaire judging by local. No lag whatsoever, and tons of interesting and funny chatter on the com channels.
I was about to go to a station to buy a small secure can so I could name it "Welcome Jove emissairy! Take me to you leader!" When I heard the news about him being splattered, and smiled that my earlier decuctions had been proven true.
Altogether I give this event a 10 for writing and immersion, and a 4 for implementation. As far as fun factor goes I give it a 7, mainly because nothing really happened.
so overal I'd give the event a solid 7.
Hope to see more in the very near future!

Hilarious event. OMG so many of the nag brigade got ****ed off. Which makes it even more hilarious

Ok Im at work but can someone answer me a couple of questions please as I dont really have a clue what you are talking about:
1. These 'shards' which you speak of, did EVERYONE get one ie everyone with an active subscription or just everyone who was in local at the time ??
2. If it was EVERYONE ie me too, how was in determined which hangar the thing appeared in ie I have stuff in many many stations ?
3. How are alts treated ie if I had 2 alts did they get something too ?
I may be way off the mark with my interpretation of what y'all are banging on about but I might as well ask in an attempt to break up the bun fight.
For those who did actually expect some uber event .....has history taught you nothing ?
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

I am utterly disgusted by the level of immaturity, the lack of roleplaying and the stupidness of many of the players of EVE that today was at new caldari, I have given up some profitable mining yesterday and today to be there to meet the jovians that was coming with a new technology, ok the jovians plans was destined to fail til the start, to me was perfectly cool thing. gave a big project to be made to retrive the various pieces of the poor jovian scientist..... the kill of the peaceful ambassador that came to tell us what happened was... stupid, and needless, and pretty much ruined the event, expecially by some guy using an alternate named 'killthejovies' or something like that.. the constant whining about the lags and the absolutely stupid attacks to the CPP(sp?) pretty much ruined the event, and that is NOT because of the CCP but of the stupid players who cannot stay put and silent for 5 minutes straight. as an INGAME consequencies I'd really hope that whathever the jovians was letting us have, that new cool technology won't be made advailale to us permanently, if would be for me, the jovies would send huge battleships and kill every single sentient life in the galaxy... but thankfully, they are better than us, it's a shame that the best people always dies first.. at the hands of the wrost idiots around. the best we can do is... totally ignore these idiots, isolate them, not let them interact anymore with anybody, eventually they will shutup and learn or DIE HORRIBLY OF SOLITUDE, which I hope. fine fine I am way too mad currently to give a good point of view for the event, just know that in my view for now it was ruined by PLAYER GRIEFERS or better, who griefed both the CPP and the players partecipated the event, and in my view their account should be quit.

I've got to rate this event highly over all.
The naming of a system was unfortunate, given the average EVE player's tendancy to follow sheeplike to systems during an event, regardless of popularity, volume of traffic and the like.
On the other hand, the event achieved a lot:
1. An amusing expansion to the Jove plot, with the promise of new stuff over the coming weeks.
2. Every player got something to celebrate the 1st Anniversary of EVE.
3. It was something that even those of us unable to log in and travel to a timed event could enjoy, rather than get missed out by. Watching it all unfold over the news and forums has made a dull afternoon highly entertaining.

What went right with the event:
Great plot. Entertaining, funny in its own tragic little way, and generally a nice addition to the story line so far. No complaints there.
What went wrong with the event:
Unless this was planned as a server test, it was very poorly executed. Replace "arriving New Caldari at 12:00 EVT" with "arriving undisclosed locations to visit heads of state" and you would have saved yourself a huge amount of angst. People would not have wasted the time traveling to/being at the various systems mentioned, which ended up being unnecessary since you gave out Jovian bits to everyone anyway.
If this WAS in part a server test, then likewise poorly executed. REWARD those people who made the effort and spent the time to show up. I don't mean handing out Tech II BPs. You already had little Jovian bits to give out, why not give them to the people that actually attended the event instead of strewing them across all of EVE? It would be just as plausible that the Jovian pieces ended up along his planned route instead of everywhere else.
KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE. While I completely disagree with the whining morons who generally populated New Cal, the reality is these are PAYING whining morons and, more importantly, they ARE your audience whether you like them or not. And rule 1 of dealing with whining morons is DON'T MAKE THEM WAIT. Sitting for an hour in a system to find out about a non-event that could have been related in the first 10 minutes is painful enough to us rational, calm folks. Further, while technically challenging, it would have been far more effective to drop body parts into people's cargo holds instead of their hangars. You would of had a lot more people wondering what these little body bits were and potentially genuinely interested in the story, and a lot fewer people whining in local chat.
Anyway, just my initial observations at 7am local time. Hope you are all wearing your asbestos underwear.

Heh, there was written "PHAT LEWT" on most of the faces of those 550 people in New Caldari. I guess they didn't except bits of bone in that loot.
Nice joke of sorts, but it shows to me the one major problem with Eve: Lots of space, not much in it. Put more stuff in it like events, CCP. Please. I'm tired of the story arc mostly revolving around news posts. I want to get my hands dirty.

GO CCP! Thanks for putting some action into Eve, and not just pumping out news with no impact at all on the world (What is up with the cathedral? NOTHING is happening there! Not even repair crews!)
Lighten up people, this is the beginning of great things. There is one thing that I would like to complain about though:
WHAT IS UP WITH ALL THE SPAMMING, EVENT-SPOILING, IMMATURE PEOPLE who does not have it in them to shut up and listen? Local is for ROLEPLAY during events, or at least meaningful comments. You wan't to say every little thing on your mind, do it to your friends in a private channel for crying out loud. READ THE EVENT GUIDELINES. Grow the heck up.

Unfortunatly i wasnt able to participate in this event, I was at college and still am now :(
I think the outcome of the event was spot on. We couldnt really have expected something like the introduction of jumpdrives anyway, to start with titans arnt even released yet. This way, everyone gets something, albeit a bit of flesh or whatever, at least theyre trying to allow more ppl to participate in the event. I cant comment on the lag cos I wasnt there, but its better than having one of the big alliances get everything like they usually do. __________________________________________________

Lighten up people...
CCP made a mistake YES. Their mistake was including the systems he would visit and the time in the news post.
Other then that there was no error on CCP's side. This is the beginning of a story involving the Jove..it has to begin somewhere and this was it, it was never about uber loot and whatnot...
The Jove was never supposed to arrive even...
The is the beginning of a STORY and not an EVENT...

I've got to admit I don't even think of going to any EVEnts until they start to do a lot more because I just know it's going to be a lagfest, a total waste of time, or a lagfested waste of time heh.
To be honest I would have expected a lot more events before now but CCP seem to be concentrating on Shiva. I was under the impression there was a dedicated events team but havent heard much from them. Are events going on we dont hear about?
Perhaps I'm being pessimistic but there were better events back in beta. Anyone remember the cruiser hunt event? 4 events run simultaneously in different regions to spread the load. Now THAT'S what CCP should be doing in my honest opinion. That would reduce the lag (unless one of the events is better and draws more people).

I was not at the event, being 40 jumps away and expecting a lag-fest, but following it on the news and in game channals was a real good RP ing experience which built up the atmosphere nicely. The only thing that spoilt it were the tossers who went there for no reason other than to shoot up a Jove without any in game reason for it! Had they been Amarr charachters RP ing fanatics out for revenge for the war it would have been understandable from an game perspective, as it is I really do hope CCP will arrange the Jove exacting vengance by sending warships out to pod the guilty men , that I would laugh my***** off at

Well i have to say could not make it with my main character but used one of my other accounts to go to the event for some RP, I now have in the region of 50 different retards that turned up for the event in a blocked list in a matter of 30 mins.
The event was cool and alot of fun pity the retards as normal got there indy ganking alts out to kill poor Veniel in NC just for greed purpose's.
I have been a GM for about 15 years playing RP game's all the usuel stuff D&D ect and I never seen as many number crunchers/munchies you pick your name as I seen today in NC.
I think someone needs to develop a online version of Hackmaster and move 50% of the eve community over to it.
The retards who spoiled the event for me and alot of others deserve to be punished for the crap they caused.
My 2 cents.

im a little confused, i dont mean to whine but i dont see what was so great or fun about todays "event". After eventually logging back on after downtiem in the system then undocking to see a LOT of ships all around the station after 30 minutes of waiting word spreads about the new "news" post and everyone moves on to continue whatever they were doign before hand. Then we learn everyone in the whole game gets a jove piece regardless of whether they were at the event. So what exactly was the event? Since this was the first "event" i have ever been at i was just wondering if this is what they are usually like? Did i miss something cos i didnt see anything fun about this.
Again i dont mean to whine just curious if this is what the RP is usually like in eve if so i shall avoid it in the future to avoid any further disapointment

Ha ha I totally agree, people assumed everything! And besides if the Jovian transporter hadn't have blown up then you would have seen nothing also!! As the Jovian diplomat would have teleported between planets with no need for a ship!!

*Mrissa walks into her hanger, and stops in shock and horror.
Guts (is that a piece of *shudder* liver?!) are draped haphazardly over Spooky's favorite hollowed out Hydrogen Battery casing. And yet none of the refugees or homeless living in a sectioned off part of the hanger are missing.
"Spooky! Spit that out right now!!"
Then, noticing the smell of ozone and burnt rubber, she goes around a support pylon and spies a bizarre chunk of alien, smouldering wreckage sticking out of the fuselage of one of her Atron.
Despite this, the missing Ares blueprint catches her attention first, the production run finished, and she freaks.
***
Later, wearing a gas mask and removing the guts to a secure container gingerly with a crowbar, she wonders if the world's gone a little crazy.
***
(Had to run to work, so haven't had chance to petition, but missing blueprints isn't part of the Jove Visitation, is it?!? At least now I know where the other stuff is and came from.)

What Riffix said. Suggestion: Next time have seperate meetings for the races- that would reduce the lag by spreading the server load a bit, and also possibly cut down on the alt effect.
Happy Birthday Eve btw- only known you a week and a half, but it looks like you've got a lot of mileage in you (apart from the griefers, whingers and muppets in your subscriber base. Did I mention bugs?)

Seriously people build this up way to much. Rumors were spread like wildfire and then peoples hopes got shot down when they realized that what they heard was nothing more then some rumor being thrown around How do you come off criticizing CCP because they gave you something? If you don't want what they gave you I would be happy to take it. |

Ah well, it's evolution in progress I guess, and at least a puddle of disintegrating mush can be sprayed away quite easily and does not need a burial :)

Personally i had great fun and it was amusing to listen to my CEO trying to log in after he gpt the "empty system" bug that seemed to affect so many.

Edited by: Origim on 06/05/2004 20:19:38 LOL, you people haven't been slaves of EA yet... you see, in EnB, there was a huge live "V'rix" (aliens) invasion during Summer of 03. Since the event was happening before "patch downtime" and no one actually knew about the invasion, little people could show up...
Around December, there was a huge story build-up for another probable Alien take over. HUNDREDs of people around the servers gathered around the speculated invasion area... just to waint untill the servers went offline, and wake up next morning to see Aliens swarming around. No invasion..nothing.
As stated, CCP never intended to make the Jove show up in New Caldari, but because so many people gathered, they decided to ATLEAST make something show up.. and they did, and you should be thankful for that. If CCP would have been EA, Castor patch wouldn't have ever been released, and no jove ship would have appeared at all... and you would wake up to see Halloween candy in your cargo hold. --------------

EA......haha. EA has the absolute worst record of creating a good online game and then pulling the plug after about a year and a half.
Wait did EA shut down EnB for SIMS ausie style so they'd have more sims bandwidth for the ausie edition.
Screw EA and any online game they release. they might know how to creat games in a hurry that will not ever last.
Sounds like they made EnB just with the same intentions as they did Motorcity online. gotta tell ya ....eve is the only game like it and there is no other game for a vidiot like me.
Don't ever compare Eve to any EA online game. They know nothing of patching to introduce new items into a game and they know nothing about the type of loyalties that are due for a game of this type. Ea could have the eyesight to see that far down the road.
Can't beleave someone would even entertain the thought of saying anything about and EA online game in here. so disgusted i'm spitting all over my screen.
After EA took my Motorcity away(not to mention best absolute racing game EVER) after a year and a half of my building my own top ten placing cars and just shut it down.......I personally will never so much as look at an EA game. they will never get another penny out of me.
CCP has done a great great job at introducing a great and MASSIVE game with plans to see it through. CCP actually knows what kind of gamer they are looking for..............ones that don't quit. unlike the EA online game team.......the shut down all their online games cuz they just aint good enough and can't compete in that market.
Walks away fartingin EA's general direction
Refuse to even drop a quarter in a game of golden tee. No more money from me ever.
Keep up the good work CCP, throw a piece of brain matter my way anytime.

I think made a few Mega creds mining this morning. I never even thought about going to NC and seeing the Jove.
You would have to be a bonehead to think after all the issues trying to "decentralize" the player popultation. That CCP would set up an event that make everyone rush to a few systems. And then all the power players and wannabes do just that
Oh the irony of it all...

I think the bit that amuses me most of all was the amount of assumption that went on before the event, and how many people confuse these ASSumptions with fact.
Rumor confused with fact #1: The jove was bringing warp drive tech to EVE.
Counter to rumor #1: While also still just a rumor, the manner in which the Jove died, implies that it was never going to be jump drive tech. More than likely it was a hint that interbus was coming soon(tm). In my opinion interbus is more sorely needed than jump drives. I for one NEVER thought it was going to be jump drives... It made no sense... It was at best, too easy.
Rumor confused with fact #2: Jove Tech would be given out to a lucky few. If nothing else, it could be gained by blowing up his ship...
Counter to rumor #2: CCP learned thier lesson the last time a jove dropped TechII toys for us I think... And if memory serves, even that was an accident.
Rumor confused with fact #3: The Jove would only be going to New Caldari. This one has been repeated many times by the A$$hats on this thread.... I pity your lack of intelligence, and am amazed at how many of you idiots play eve.
Counter to Rumor #3: This has to be my favorite indication of stupidity yet... It seems like everyone didn't bother to read the news article, or at best they lack the reading comprehension skills to understand the jove would be taking a TOUR of the 4 empires heads of state (implying thier home systems), As well as the locations of a few unnamed factions. YES CCP made the mistake of NAMING one of the systems, but all of you dolts took that to mean that the Jove would only be going to New Caldari... Thats why YOU got saddled with lag and misery, and feel cheated, because YOU are stupid. I on the other hand look like a brain surgeon for going to Luminaire, where the crowding was much more pleasant.
Rumor confused with fact #4: This event would be the introduction of new technology (see #1), and now a lot of people who lack the brain power to light match without burning themselves to death are screaming about how they don't have new tech II or better toys.
Counter to rumor #4: Lets assume for a second CCP WAS intending to give out new TECH II or TECH III items as part of this event... Would you have been any happier if you STILL didn't get a peice of the new tech because you where unlucky?
Closing statement: FAR too many players in EVE are either idiots, Lunatics, or in fact children...
CCP If you take one suggestion from this thread besides the ones you yourself have made (IE not naming a system next time ETC), then the suggestion you should take is this.
DO NOT let the griefer morons who piled up by the hundreds in alt characters to shoot at the jove to gain phat lewtz get away with this act. I do not mean punish them out of game...
I suggest you lower thier ACCOUNTs faction (not just the character in question) to the KJove so low, that they will NEVER be able to get Jove Agents, or even visit Jove space meaning getting Jove tech in the future will be all the more difficult.
On TOP of this, Caldari should be blacklisted from the Jove programs, and be put on a slightly less than nuetral footing with the Jove.
Lastly, I am not surprised in an in character fashion that the Caldari attacked the Jove... It's a well known Fact that Caldari not only shoot first and ask questions later, but often shoot again after asking the question... Never trust a Caldari... At least a Gallanean will sweat talk you into giving up your assets... But a Caldari will take them at gunpoint... We should drop another Station on em if you ask me.

Personnaly, I never intended to go to see that event, knowing for sure that it would be crowded to hell. I followed a little what was happening by reading the forum, and was puzzled like a lot of other peoples about the bits found in hangar. When I logged in a little later, I laughed out loud when I saw the news and understood what happened.
Brilliant event I say, even if it was not really an event but the start of a story arc. What is even more funny than this event is the reaction of the whiners/griefers/L33T players who can not say what RP is, and were waiting for some uber loot. I mean, how much amount of stupidity do you need to shoot a jovian emissary? If the emissary was really gonna bring a new tech, shooting him would mean that the tech would likely have been destroyed with the ship, and thus those players would have PREVENTED the arrival of a new tech. In addition, think about what the Jovians would think about some guys who kill their emissary in a try to get the fat lewt
Ok, giving a location and time was a bad move, but the morons who shot the jovian, THAT was a really bad move! I say, CCP, give them a -5 faction with Jovians, they really want it bad

I can't be bothered to read all the whining.
It all boils down to managing of expectations. To step down the player-induced hype a little CCP could have made a second announcement. It could have been something like "... due to rumours regarding a strike against the jovian ambassador concord will up the security in the systems where the jovian will travel and have a 0 tolerance towards any kind of aggressive intentions".
Yes we do NEED more events.

LOL Eddie, ever heard of Sarcasm ? Cant beleive you beleived the post about broken arms etc
I guess Im a pesimist after attending many 'events' in the past but I hope this time all you optimists prove me wrong. From my point of view though CCP have never followed on from any of their 'storyline events' before and never added any depth or player interaction which can ultimately effect longer term happenings. Short of perhaps the frigate tournament which was closed to 3 of the 4 races in EVE and had nothing whatsoever to do with RP.
please prove me wrong So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

The original post drew much laughter in the middle of a meeting when the forums were being looked at for post-event discussion.

Ok I really don't have time to scroll thru 6 pages of whining for pirate corps who wanted to kill a jove, their prob, not mine . As for jove parts did you ever think what blood bone and brain tissue all have in common? You wonder maybe some day they could be used for something special. I wouldn't be selling if I were you, it could truely be a gift with one persons death.

Edited by: Cinc on 07/05/2004 17:10:14 I thought it was funny as hell. The Jove's tinker around with jump drives(?) and end up atomizing someone. WHOOPS!
Ok... so many are torqued because they didn't get some uber-toy or whatever. Perhaps this is just the tip of the iceberg though? Future interactions with Jove's and access to new technology? (provided the Jove's get it right).
-=EDIT=- The dev blog seems to be in sync with my theory.

Well if you read the latest press release from Jove, they appear to be a bit ****ed that their Envoy was attacked by 500 dingleberries..... seems like what started out as a diplomatic mission is turning a bit heated....
Invasion? Doubt it....
Border tension? Heck yeah...Jovian incursions with a touch of revenge on their minds? I bet.. so take care on the border.... this is not over.
And stop the whining about the event.. the EVENT is still on going... geeze __________________________________

If CCP had had any guts it would have played out like this...
500 players line up to smoke Jovian ship and steal all his tech.
Jovian guy warps into the middle of 500 ships, 500 ships open fire, missiles everywhere...
Jovian fleet decloaks, vaporizes all 500 ships, recloaks and heads off to Jovian space.
THEN, you would have had whining, BUT think of the bump in the economy such a large scale "rennovation" would have accomplished.
IF this plays out somehow over the next few weeks, I thought it was pretty cool...

( Managing to involve an entire playerbase in an event without going through the mass/lag issues in a both an efficient and creative way, hat down.
Eve team is giving its first lesson of event management to the mmorpg veteran staffs, and i trust them for this to be only the start of a complete lecture.
I would like to say more alas i have a Jovian bacon slice on the fire, must keep an eye on it. )

All you people whining about this event got themselves hyped up for nothing.
They are whining because they didn't get to shoot anyone.
1st. at no place in the news of the jovians trip did it say he was going to be in any one system at any one time. just said he was going to make a trip to all major race leaders.
2nd. at no point in that news did it say for everyone that wanted to go to new caldari and try and gank him when he gets there being it may be his first stop. he was on a diplomatic round of travel.
3rd. those of you who thought it be good to mass into one system to possibly get a shot off.......one word, STUPID.
4th. those whining about the lag refer to #3.
5th.................IT WAS FREEKING NEWS NOT AN EVENT
since when does basic news imply an event sanction for players massing........i didn't read anything hinting to that in the news just that the jovian was going to possibly release some jovian technologies and that he was going to release it to all major races. thus why he was to be going to the leaders.
All you people whining are doing so due to your own ineptness to read what's written and not read between the lines. All those that are let down are doing so by their own doings. Next time the news implies the release of technology.........if you haven't figured it out by now.
THAT WAS AN INTRODUCTION TO AN ONGOING EVENT/RELEASE. WAIT FOR THE NEWS OF IT'S RELEASE.......then you can whine about not getting something.

Originally by: Hillbilly bobby im a little confused, i dont mean to whine but i dont see what was so great or fun about todays "event".
Part of what I find so fun about the event is that it was truely an interseting plot line and involved me even though I was not a part of it the NC chinese fire drill.
Plus, since I wasn't willing to skip work to be a part of the event, I think it's hilarious coming back to find out that all the drotards who did show up are whining because they didn't get to gank Baniya before he was jump scrambled in to egg mix.
I don't think there is anything wrong with what they did, myself. But it's a moot point, they've already announced that they won't be announcing specific times/places in the future. (I think they should announce places and times, but maybe not together.)

The time you spend caterwauling and being utter tools could be better employed earning money from this very fun event. The market is buzzing with trade of Jove kibbles. Ride the wave, you fools, ride the wave.

Glad to see you guys got a kick out of it.
And look! Proof that the Devs *DO* read the forums! <gasp> (Sorry, more sarcasm there.)
For the people that missed the </sarcasm>, I didn't really lose my arm, children, job, or pet. I logged in before work to see some Jove chunks in my hangar, and a lot of angry people on forums. I will say I am extremely amused to see players who don't realize it was a joke, even after several others have made it blatantly obvious. Perhaps the devs read more of the forums than the players do.
GJ CCP! cool story! I can't wait to see what my Jovian bits are gonna be used for. (Jovian Bits, n Bits, n Bits. hmm, catchy!)

hehe , well i was a bit miffed at first, some of you prob got that off my first thread, deleted btw :), anywayz. It was pretty okz all in all esp seeing all the peeps there was cool.
The only thing i was hoping for was a brief glance at a jove bship or titan, since interbus has been more or less scrapped it seems , that wasnt a viable option , so jumpdrive kinda stood out.
ah well, i did see em before and prob will again.

Well I dont see anything in any of the news announcements that mentioned we would get to see the Jove.
So why are you all moaning, cant you read or comprehend ? Just cause the news said the Jove would visit these area's doesnt mean anything other than that, the Jove are mysterious and not ment to be seen :D
Thanks for the body parts btw

Managalar states a good point.
Would actually be cool seeing some of the top guys getting their heads chopped off. Make a Jove war with or something and get peoples hoeps up to beat them then all of them end up getting slaughtered and Jove occupies parts of "empire" space. Empires work together exterminating the jove occupants.
I dunno, sounded cool in my head :P

I didn't turn up, so personally i don't care. I did attend one of them tho. Some big chase the man kinda thing (as you can tell i'm up on my role play).
Anyhow, thats the point i was making...The role play in eve is lame, always has been. I read the news, its a bit like reading a story except not as explicit and then i log in and play eve. The story has no relation to the game unless it was something that broke and they tried to hide it in a story (i.e. the sentry guns). Don't people play how they wanna play or do people actually "role" play.
Hmm, anyhow stop moaning about it, moan about something useful like the game being broke or something
