hmm yes i was almost convinced that the security status bullcrap was acceptable...
Now that ive gone out and played some other games and such though i am back to where i started thinking how rediculous it really is.
I don't care who else this affects and howmany people actually are braindead enough to think its 'fair and sqaure' but this is most harsh on pirates...
On the board another mmorpg (which will remain unamed :P), i have had this dicussion with a formal EVE player who set out to be a pirate from early beta on....
Fact of the matter is...
The phrase where it says stuff about pirating on the EVE box needs to be removed. Its faulty advertising. There is no pirating in EVE. There is no profit to be had, there is nothing to be salvaged. Gamemechanics which protect merchants from being attacked AND soak the blow when they ARE attacked have insured that running into a pirate in EVE is about as scary as a pattato..
'oh no a pirate, he wants me to pay...ahaha but im not gonna cause the sentries will protect me....oh ups hes a persistant ***** and killed me anyway...ahaha no problem, insurance and clonecontracts make it so i loose nothing'
This games community has the harshest stance EVER on pirating. Its simply amazing howmuch greed and lazyness are the center around which all of EVE revolves...
If it wasn't for the mechanics which are now completely and utterly GHEY...people could send escorts with freithers who could actually fire on agressors (as opposed to having to plug their fingers in their guns for fear of concord)...
Once however...EVE was different and escort WERE viable! You could send johnny with the bship and teddy and billy with the cruiser with your indy convoy and they COULD actually fire if joey and bobby the pirate show up...
This wasn't done hwoever and why?
Well for two reasons. Most couldnt AFFORD combat ships, those who could hardly had the skill to fly it, let alone put it into combat. Most people with cruiser used them for mining and have very little to no combat skills. This is because people were going for the lucrative skills first...
Pirates however had nothing else to train BUT combat skills. Result was that they were far superior to the escorts by default.
Another factor was the fact that everyone was pretty much creeping around in tiny and cheap indies and people didnt exactly have the cash to buy a few freighterloads of consumerelectroics to then get your corp to ship emm at once under an escort...tomuch isk involved at the time and people didnt have that isk back then!
Those who did have the money, large corporation such as TTI, X- trading company and consorts were simply to greedy to send escorts with their ships as this would eat into their profits ect. Instead some chose to sign naps with the pirates and pay them not to attack their convoys (which is although not a popular choice, a valid one)...
MOST however chose to whine on the forums and make their whine to load and overwhelming that CCP eventually had no choice but to abide their wishes.
Now we are one year later and all those people who put time into training lucrative skills back then have since 'grown up' and their investing in lucrative skills has payed off. If bountyhunters were free to attack pirates today they WOULD and there would be some real competition for pirates in EVE...
The EVE mechanics as we know them today however, have still got their training wheels on..
Were still under the nice protective wing of CCP uber gank mechanics like concord and super megahightech induestructable sentrieguns, not to mention tons of insurance and clone stuff and whatnot...
Everything is still very much in trainingwheel state. I doubt this will ever chance but i think i'm not elaborating tomuch if i say that EVE is a total and compleet carebear heaven of a game.
PVP mechanics, especially those relating to pk'ing and pirating, are gettign nerfed more and more as time passes. CCP claims they seke a balance. I find this very hard to believe...
The balance was shifted in the favor of merchants almost a year ago and has since then not changed a BIT to get the balance a bit more towards the pirates side again...instead they keep beefing up everything and making everything safer and more trainingwheel like as time passes. Things get worse and worse...
I think what CCP means when they say they look out for both sides and try to maintain a balance is..
'we are currently waiting till all pk's and pirates leave and more carebears join so we can beef the security mechanics more and we have a sort of separate server called 'empire space' where PVP is impossible...although not a bannable offence because then we couldn't advertise PVP os EVE anymore, so we kept it legit..only its impossible...'
Now seriously though...
0.0 is how all of EVE should be with the expection of a few keysystems which should be TOTALLY secure (traininggrounds for noobs).
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.
