My girlfriend wouldn't have a problem if it wasn't for the fact that the game I'm playing has the name of another woman.
Unfortunately the game does have the name of another woman, and thus she is beside herself with jealous rage.
Why CCP couldn't have foreseen this possibility and called the game "Space Adventure 3 Million" or somesuch, I don't know. In fact, I may sue.

So true. I cannot lose what I don't already have (wife), but I had to find a new job once. Now it's ok I found a equilibrium.

Well if it wasn't EVE, then it would be some other MMOG, single-player game, a sport of some kind, or some other hobby that would make your spouse a "[activity] widow."
For me it used to be an Ultima Online Widow before I learned when to play and when not to play. --------- Kitten Hearder Evolution made my sig Less Entertaining than your's. |

I played mmorpgs before I met my wife so she knew that it was my hobby. As someone said before, she's just happy I'm not down the pub chatting up the barmaids. That's friday's job. Also since I don't speak Chinese and live in China she knows it's one of the few times I get to talk to people properly, even if they are 'virtual' people. Only thing that annoys her is if I play past midnight on a work night or if she finds out there's a girl on teamspeak.

Yup I had the problem trying to fit time for work, gf, pub with pals. However I think I got it about sussed, now im seeing a waitress who works at the resurante my pals head chef at. So now I can play EvE till they finnish then go for a drink at the resturante, thus killing 2 birds with one stone pint with pal and seeing the bird. Then home for nookie with my lass.
So to all those having problems with the wife gf etc send them out to work at a resturante, also it helps if you make them squeel when they get home.
Love, peace and all that sh1t.

Originally by: meowcat Well, i was just about to set off on another jaunt - this time with a couple of fellow noobs, when the wife comes in (see exclamation in thread title)
Has anyone else suffered sudden and out-of-the-blue marital strife as a consequence of this game, or is it just me?

I found a work around by making the wife play EVE. It worked. But now I'm celebate- life goes on.
They also never fixed the Butt-Numbing bug.
Completely low quality software. Pathetic.

LOL - EVE is pretty damn crazy. One of my GFs is a CAD tech so she's into the computer and computer games (sims) and she's always working so it evens out. I have all this free time till she gets off work unless she brings work home with her then I have even more free time. Ordinarily I might have been the one to complain she's always too busy but TBH it's kind of a relief because I have something I enjoy that sucks my life away w/ each accumulated skill point.

hehe My favorite discussion happens at least 3 times a week.
Her: "Are you coming to bed yet?" Me: "Hold on! I gotta kill this last guy!" Her: "Why?" Me: "He called me a n00b!!" Her: . . . Me: "Hon? Where'd you go? Honey??"
She knows it's my tool for relaxation though, so it works in teh end.

Good times will always be remembered. Sleep well, old friends. |

Whew, thought I was the only one. Here is what I do to at least pacify my wife part of the time. She's at home with the kids most of the week while I'm at work. On the weekends I say "Honey, why don't you take some time for yourself and go shopping, I'll watch the kids." Bingo, I've shown empathy for her and just got myself 6-8 hours of wife-free Eve time. (now if that pesky 3 yr old would stop calling out "Daddy come wipe my booty") ------------------------------------------------ Place the mission first, never accept defeat, never quit and never leave a fallen comrade behind. |

/chuckles
I see many many all to familiar symptoms out there. I too have run into this issue with the wife although not as bad since we got married.
I do not recommend looking at her and stating "I am the CEO of a major Corporation. The time I allot you is precious." (check skill) "You have 4 hours and 23 minutes. Make the best of it".
That one doesn't go over well...
Neither does "Not now woman, theres a war to be fought" as you crank up the tunes and boot up the PC.

My wife has often gotten upset about the time I play the game. She has tapered it off though.
First I pointed out to her that if I went fishing instead of playing the game, I wouldn't be at home and it costs a heck of a lot more cash then $15 a month. Nor do I go horseback riding, a hobby I used to have, which again, was a bit on the expensive side. Nor do I go out to bars, sporting events or other such activities as that too would require more isk. That helped a little. And I pointed out, nicely, that she spends a considerable amount of time conversing with her family and friends over the I-net, more then I play.
Then, once I didn't play for three days, I kept asking her what she was doing, who she was e-mailing, can we watch a movie, generally, I was there constantly and became a pain. Not on purpose, but because I was bored, I can't stand TV and not particularly interested in surfing the internet and it's usually too late to go anywhere, aside from the budgetary restrictions. After a couple of days she asked me why I wasn't playing the game and that she felt it helped me relax in the evenings.
Now the only time she says anything is when she starts cleaning the house at 1 AM for some guests that are coming over and I protest. Although I do help as it is easier and faster that way.
I'm a bit amazed at how many peeps have the same situation. I wonder what it is about the game or our personalities that we get so involved in it. It is fantasy, right?
I still say it's better then TV...

The problem is that EVE is so much more interesting than talking to most women. I just broke up with my girlfriend, and I have no desire to get a new one because I don't want to go out with them and talk about boring stuff and pay lots of money. Everything in life is starting to seem boring in comparison to EVE..but that's probably because I don't mine.

Anything that you interact with is better than T.V.
Now, I have a girlfriend, and I've been very careful to do my very best to keep Eve and her at arms length. We live about 6 hours apart (driving) so it's been pretty easy. If she moves in with me next year as might happen, or moves closer, well I will just have to get her playing too. Or cut down on Eve time in favor of her.
I did have a very severe problem of Eve in the context of law school . . . the two don't mix extremely well, especially when you are doing 90% Eve and 10% law school. I got over it though, and still maintained decent grades. I think the reason why it was harder to balance law school with Eve than it is my girlfriend with Eve, is because I don't like law school but I love sex.

This is how the conversation usually goes at my house...
HER : Wanna go do somthing?
ME: Sure.
HER : What do you want to do?
ME: Whatever you want as long as it dosen't involve a pets store or flower/tree/bush/greenthing nursery.
HER: Are you hungry?
ME: No.
HER: I am, when do you think you will be hungry?
ME: we can go eat if you want, I'll just get somthing to nibble on.
HER: nahh, thats ok. What do you want to do?
ME: I don't care.
HER: How about a movie?
ME: How about you decide what you want to do and tell me, then we will go.
HER: Well you could stop playing that stupid game and help me decide.
ME: You could decide on your own what you want to do, then I will turn off the game.
HER: Why do you play that game anyways, it looks stupid.
ME: So does your flower garden but I was trying to keep that to myself because I know you enjoy your gardening.
HER: Why is your game more important than me.
ME: my game is EASIER than you are.
HER: What do you MEAN?!?!?
ME: When I'm playing (with)YOU, my game dosen't interupt and start askin' me a ton of quest....(just lost a cruiser cause my attention was diverted)
HER: SEE! your not even paying attention to me!
ME: Crap I just lost my cruiser cause you can't decide what you want to friggen do....
HER: Well you could come up with a sugestio nor two.
ME: I'M DOING WHAT I WANTED TO DO UNTIL YOU CAME IN HERE AND STARTED BUGGING ME. IT WASN'T ENOUGH THAT I WAS WILLING TO TURN IT OFF AND DO ALMOST ANYTHING YOU WANTED, ONCE YOU DECIDED WHAT IT WAS. NOOOOOOO IT WASN'T ENOUGH THAT I WAS WILLING TO BE HAPPY JUST BEING WITH YOU FOR A WHILE. YOU HAD TO TURN IT INTO SOME KIND OF DEBATE OF GAME OR ME.....ARRRGH!!!!!
HER: Why are you mad at me I just wanted to do somthing together.....
ME: SO PICK SOMTHING ALREADY!
HER: You wanna go eat?
ME: Might as well, I don't have a cruiser to blow **** up with anymore...
HER: its just a game.
ME: Fine when your watching that trading crappy houses show don't ***** when I turn the channel.

It's a symptom of serial boredom with Eve while waiting and praying that CCP do something good with Shiva.

This is so eerie.
Way I figure it....if you think your girlfriend doesnt mind you spending nights with Eve instead of her then the fact she's banging someoneelse or looking for someoneelse to give her action
The only exception is if she plays a game as much as you do at the same time you do

You all are so funny. I watched my Boyfriend play EVE shortly after it came out. I kept telling him I wanted to play as an alt, so he went and bought me an account. My Boyfriend and I love playing EVE together. The guys in our Corp love having us as a couple playing EVE together. It's to bad more Girlfriends or Wives, don't play EVE together.

Originally by: MiloMorai I got my GF an account of her own for her birthday last August and I get to play everyday after we get the kiddies in bed. Sometimes earlier, WOOT! Personally I'd play more but I want to keep the relationship. Too bad I still have to support her ingame, but she's getting pretty good at killing the rats.
Excuse me but who signed on to my account to borrow isk???? hmm wasn't the kids. For the record people, he rarely has to support me in game at all.

Fortunately my GF is doing a Masters degree had has zero time for me :)
Shes at uni 9am-9pm so when I finish work I have a good 3-4hrs of playing time before she gets home and downtime hits start, one of the advantages of being an Aussie is that downtime is 9-10pm.
So she comes home and I spend an hour sitting and talking while downtime trickles away. The beauty is, she doesn't know what downtime is so she believes I'm taking a break from Eve to spend time with her.
Come 10pm and I'll either go back to playing Eve in the spare room or bring out the laptop and sit on the couch and do some semi-AFK mining (look at screen every minute, drag mouse, look back at TV).
Weekends can be a hassle when I end up going to bed at 3am and being woken up at 9am but hey.. its a small sacrifice to pay :)
