Hi all,
I've finally convinced two friends of mine to try out eve again (thet didn't like it the first time and at that time we had a very good wow arena rating and were having lots of fun there).
Long story short I stayed, they didn't.
Now with the coming of EA and the hope of easy to find PVP engagements I think it might be time for them to try out eve again. My question is: which is the combo of race/bloodline/spec etc that will get them ready for funny combat as soon as possible ?
What I'm thinking for them is to have this frigate-action-ready combat pilot they will fly while they train another char with learning skills and stuff for the future.
There's a lot of posts and knowledge about which bloodline/profession are the best for good starting attributes and skills for a long career, but what is the best to have fun from the moment you create a charachter ?

Any military path should be fine.
Choosing the 'soldier' option will give nice weapon skills (usually ready for T2 with a small amount of training).
Choosing the 'special forces' option will give nice tank/support skills.
Why would you want to let them train on another character instead of the one they're playing though?
Logging in and out will be a pain, especially with all those short skills to train at the start.

Really, there's no reason to split training across two characters, you'll be slowing down progress on your "real" character, and unless you're following the so-called advice to train nothing but learnings for a month it's stupid and boring anyway.
But, if you insist:
1) Make a "real" account and start training learning skills
2) Make another trial account and create a Minmatar Brutor Slave Child, Military/Special Forces
3) Train for MWDs and propulsion jamming on the trial account (a few hours training, I think) and go messing around in a Rifter for two weeks
4) At the end of the trial period buy any books/implants/etc you want, and either direct trade in a station via a friend, or dump them in a jetcan in a quiet spot and pick them up on your main
5) Either repeat steps 2-4 if you want to bore yourself and train learing skills some more, or start actually doing stuff on your main
However, unless you're going to train 5/4 learnings and nothing else right off the bat, you can do just as well by alternating learnings and "proper" skills on a main character. Learnings to 4/3 don't take very long at all, and don't give that much less benefit than 5/4. In fact, learnings on a new character are quite handy for filling in the 12+ hour gaps overnight when you just don't have any decently long skills you can train.

thx for the tips.
Fact is they don't know if they want to spend money untile they have tried it out.
I'm thinking something like make two tacklers of them with rifters and fly with them for 2 weeks in a dps/sniping destroyer. So thx very much for the tip on race and profession.
Trying out the smallest plexes in EA... could give them an idea how things work here.

Rifters are fun to play but I think that your friends also should try out Gallente frigs (Incursus, Maulus and Tristan) w/ armor tank. I have personally tried that path and was into lots of pvp within a week or so.

Do you mean to get them to play on the 11th of June? IIRC that's when the after-patch downtime ends, so it seems to me to be a risky day; they might not get to play at all.
Myself, I'm preparing to set a long skill, so that when (not if, but when) CCP mucks up, I won't miss out training opportunity.

HAHAHA I remember back when revelations came into effect I wsa on a IRC chat room with all the Devs and checking the Forums... I wanna say it was nexa herself that wrote to the effect " why do I always set a long skill for Downtime and overnight, then as soon as I can log back in I go and change my skill to a short skill again, Knowing CCP is gonna **** it up and I wont be able to log back in to change that skill... Why dont I just leave the long skill set in the first place? Thats what ill do next time..." I wonder if they learned the lesson yet?
When CCP says setr a long skill they dont just mean for the time that the server is Down for patching its for atleast that week... cuz for atleast a week after the patch the server is so fubbed up its not funny

I had two friends starting to play eve lately it was quite fun showing them the ropes with some frig pvp we took down a cruiser before the guys was out of their trial period, it was the thing that made them stay. Now however they are stuck in the skill queues they have set up for themselves and we arent pvp:ing that much.
I.e. beware of the carebear trap

no fear they will not become carebears, i promise.
we played toghether CS, DaoC and WoW JUST for pvp and arenas...
