Lol, I dont think the author grasps the concept that EU =/= USA and hence dosent have the same goals and ideas, otherwise we would be the same state.
Anti America..... the European Beurocracy is - shock and horror- pro-Europe regardless of whether it conflicts with other nation states. Much like how the author wants America to "secure American interests" so is the same thing over here with regards to Europe.
The Euro is gaining momentum as a global reserve currency, difference is we are still bringing the Eastern Block up to Western Europe standards with a fair chunk of the budget where as the US spends it on its military.

/me shakes head - Europe had several superpowers over the last half millennium, the US kind of slipped in through the back door after WW2 and the colonies were granted independence under the UN convention.
It's just the European homelands uniting under the same banner, a European Federation if you will. Point is, more people more money and more resources in Europe than the USA, the only meaningful way to know the outcome for sure will be in a few decades when the Euro has had a thorough shakedown and the pan European Military amalgamation starts.

Honestly m8..I sincerely doubt this will happen. I've seen first hand the utter distain certain European countries have for one another. The way Europeans talk about other Europeans is quite disturbing. Ireland is in the EU and they haven't got a pot to Pi$$ in, which is probably why they do it on the streets. Thats a banner to be proud of :):)

The north of the US and the south of the US once hated each other so bad that they partook in one of the bloodiest wars in history against each other, and look at the place now. For that matter, have you seen how much hate flows from Scotland to England, and yet we're all still playing happy families.
A little disdain was hardly ever an obstacle in these matters ------

Nah, Europeans just like to ***** about each other, mention an outside party and suddenly you would think the British and French had been allies since the conceps of them came around
I believe Americans have some *****ing about their own interstate rivalries right?
Also the above is my own personal experience of the Euro*****ing, eventualy the topic comes around to an outside country and we all ***** about that

Well if it stops Germany from invading us every few decades I'm cool with it.
Seriously though, I'm not sure if this will work out, or maybe with a very rough start (kind of like America as has already been pointed out).

I agree with Patch, the yanks need a second civil war. I've kind of been bored since the Iraq war 'ended'. Now Sky News Active has nothing to use to show off its multi-channel interface.
Anyway, I've never liked the idea of the EU, I'd prefer an alliance of english-speaking countries.

No European nation will sign this. Except maybe Belgium. __________________________

Infact, it's already been approved by the majority of the EU member-states. Only the Irish are having a referendu, and dare I say, I'll be tempted to go there and instruct them on the future of the European union with a Large Attitude Readjustment Tool if they screw this up again like they did with the last treaty.
Europe needs to stand united against if we are to remain relevant on a global stage. ***************************** Love is like a war - easy to start, hard to continue, impossible to forget. |

It's obvious, forming a union, would make Europe stronger - and would assist Europe to become a super power - as an American, I don't really care - it's not like ****** has risen from the dead and is the Chairman of the EU.
If Europe wants to become a strong and influential group, let them be - there's nothing for me to be concerned about unless its being made out of cold blood. shouldn't have to worry about it unless your paranoid and think those kind of things all the time.
Europe works on the same wavelength as the US anyways, they would be allies if anything. ____________________

Hmm, I stand corrected then. I am very surprised anyone would agree to that though. Surrender sovereignty? We'll be back in the situation where we're not allowed to eat bananas which are too curvy, and this time we won't be able to say "up yours". __________________________

This is largely because the US is an alliance of former European colonies, just Europe had war ravaging its own continent with the civilian populace bearing witness to WW1 and WW2 and their children changing from that.
Last bloody war in America was the US Civil war, methinks if WW2 was fought on American soil the stances of militarization and rapport would be reversed.

To cut down on bull**** beurocracy and to put France in line vetoing things that benefit the entirety of Europe but dips into the subsidies of French farmers.

Hey, what's the name of that huge nation that's actually just a bunch of "states" that are "united" under an overarching centralized government? It seems to have slipped my mind.

I'm Irish and will be voting on this this coming week. Tbh i'm gonna be voting yes, i was thinking no but after reading that article i've decided i'm gonna vote yes just to **** him off. The part where he said EU peacekeeping troops had a terrible record in the Lebanon is highly insulting to me considering the record Irish peacekeepers have in that country. Anyway, even if i did vote no and the treaty was rejected by the majority our government will put it back in front of us and say "Sorry lads, you didn't get it last time obviously, vote yes" just like what happened with the Nice Treaty. Democracy me arse.
