Ok..i have been browsing forum for while and counted load of people with similar issue with overheating/unstable hw when playing EVE.
All those smart asses saying its due bad cooling go and F*CK yourselfs...seriously its more then weird when lot of "strong" machines from people all round the places have this problems only by playing EVE
There is tons of more Graphic/whatever demanding games which cause no problems (AoC,Crisis) but when i run EVE my GPU and CPU go crazy ..temperature jumps for about 20 degrees and load of CPU is peeking to 100% in few minutes ...when i minimalize EVE all goes to normal.
I didnt saw ANY official statement to this problem so far
Are Devs so poor that cant get few mentioned HW setups and test it...or do they know about this issue and are awared to lose customers so they preserve silent ?
(sorry for my english-not my main language)

A couple of questions before I continue:
1. any chance you could post your computer specs? (and whether it's a laptop or desktop?). 2. How many instances of the game client are you running? 3. fairly basic question: have you checked for dust in/around your processor and graphics card's heatsinks and fans? (this is actually the biggest cause of overheating in PC's).
From personal experience I've no issues at all running a single Eve client with premium content enabled on my Athlon X2 5000+ with 4 Gigs of ram and a Geforce 8800GT graphics card all running under Vista x64 Home Premium.

Edited by: Faris DeWitt on 08/06/2008 15:05:50 Have that sometimes (not constantly tho. Running it on a GT8800, 3 GHZ C2D, 3 Gigs Ram, WinXP. Midi Tower with active Cooling on CPU and GPU (dont have the standard cooling on the GPU, but a 2 Slot Custom Cooler, 2 small Coolers pulling air in and another big one pushing it out) For most games my GPU doesnt go over 65 ^C) Eve kicks it to 75 sometimes, with all coolers going crazy, if I end Eve it goes down nearly instantly.
I get this 1 out of approx 15 times I log into Eve.

Relax.
I run other games that one would think stress my machine more than eve does. I think LOTRO should stress it more, but it does not.
So, my Qs:
Premium client? Y/N Machine type? CPU/RAM/Video card, etc. If you have an 8800 or something do you have an adequate power supply? Most people get tripped up by those cards needing so much current on the 12v rail. Have you done maintenance on your box with compressed air/vacuum cleaner? (basically, cleaned the heatsinks/board/filters/power supply/fans, etc?)

1.its a desktop PC 2.im running 1 non-premium client 3.setup im running is AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ EE BOX ATI HD2900 XT 2 GB A-data RAM
edit-forgot power supply ...its 750 Corsair (as i was thinking about crossfire later)
OS is XP Professional SP2
i think this setup is far beyond recommended hw specification for this game
Dont get me wrong but my PC is not overheating except when i run EVE ...thats whats where weird about it..

I just replaced my HD2600XT with a HD3870.
I did get much more heat with the 2600 than with the new 3870. I suspect the 2600 series just didn't have enough cooling power, but it never got high enough to concern me.
If goons are giving you "respect" on CAOD, you pretty much know what you just did was a pile of ****. |

Edited by: xXxSatsujinxXx on 10/06/2008 22:18:43 I've had very strange issues with cpu usage etc... though tbh i stopped doing the things that caused them..
Most of the time EvE really pushes my laptop, fan going full speed, cpu load 100% etc... but occasionally i used to find it would run without the fan running, and using hardly any cpu... barely any heat at all.
I noticed that it was something to do with a combination of alt + tabbing out of the game, and after exiting at night i used to put my laptop into standby. After resuming, and starting the game again it would run hot and noisy, alt + tab out, let it settle, then when i went back into the game it would stay cool and quiet with no performance drop. Strange thing was, it wasn't consistent...
I have no idea how my lappy can run this game without needing the fan at all, but i love it, and want it like that all the time... :(
specs are as follows -
(Targa traveller 826) cpu - AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Ram - 1024mb Gpu - Ati X700
running classic client on XP sp3, omega gfx drivers

I got nearly the same problem. Before patch i had 10% CPU usage on both cores when running 3 clients. After the new patch i got around 50-67% CPU usage but haven¦t changed the settings or setup of system/eve.
Machine is: Desktop 3x premium client MSI K9N Neo V2 AMD 5000+ black edition @ 6400+ be quiet 600W 4 gig Aeneon DDR2 800 MSI 7600GS @ 8600gt total of 2TB diskspace all S-ata II
so you see the system i run has enough power for eve temperature was at 30¦ before now up to 45¦

Just clean ur Coolers...
or Upgrade them...
every PC must be able to perform on 100% duty stable...
i know that the 2900XT is a real heating machine there is a real good cooler from Arctic Cooling... click for the Athlon is also a cheap solution from AC aviable, the Freezer pro64...
u lower the Noise of ur PC and also get it more Stable...
and now... I F*CK myself |

not so simple for me, and i do keep my coolers etc clear, and have a dual fan laptop cooler... the problem isn't heat, its cpu usage.. my fan goes on cpu usage, not temperature... The fact that most of the time the game uses way more than it should be is the issue.. its a mystery why the game feels the need to gobble my cpu, when it has been proved that it can run without even taxing enough to turn the fan on... (40% cpu)

My Asus F3sv runs for weeks with 100% CPU usage stable...
the same for a laptop, a laptop must be able tu run 100% CPU Usage stable...
ok, mayby its not so good that eve now uses 100% CPU but hey, my performance is improved so it seems to be a good choice by the devs...

mine runs stable etc... even all day at 100%... my point is that if it CAN run at less than 40%, why doesn't it? i get no difference in performance at all, so i'm just getting hot/wasting power for no reason. |

I understand that overheating and instability would be very frustrating, but to be fair the cause of the problem may not be Eve - it could be due to other factors that are somehow being triggered under a condition that exists while Eve is running. I say this because evidently not all people are suffering from the problem - I for one can run two premium clients (on two displays) on my PC, and my CPU usage varies between 30-40% usage (depending on what is happening) and the temperature reads around 30 degrees celcius. But that's just my PC, another system could give very different results. I'm certain that if the devs were aware of a problem, they'd do something about it. But reproducing this issue could be very difficult as it may be only certain hardware and software combinations that trigger it. Or the problem may not be from Eve itself, but from something else that is being triggered while Eve is running.
Anyway, best of luck and I hope the gremlins get sorted out for you :)
