According to the oxford english dictionary, the earliest recorded use of "football" is from 1486: "1486 Bk. St. Albans, Her. Evja, It is calde in latyn pila pedalis a fotebal." Somebody better do this btw.

Somebody better do this btw. I like how people generalize like this. ALL americans feel a certain way or are a certain way or act a certain way. I for one feel that soccer (or football if you prefer) is way more difficult because of all that damn running and the huge field, but I also agree with a previous post that if one of your soccer (or football) players came face to face with one of the steroid hungry (USA) football players he wouldn't argue the point any. Oh and as a reminder to everyone who has forgotten, the USA doesn't have a history filled with thousands of years of "this and that". We are a bit over 200 years on our own but are made up of the histories and cultures of the entire world. So sure you can state that we aren't very old, but our cultures are because they are the same as yours. /end rant by a skinny Native American Indian(feather not dot)/Irish American ---------------------------------------------- Why do it the hard way when you can do it the AMARR way.

Having played rugby for many years my favourite memory was when my Uni (UWCN) played a touring American Football team at rugby (No pads) and American football. We played rugby first. At the end of the match out of the 50 players they brought, they fielded 45 players, 22 were blood binned, 5 refused to enter the field and 3 went to hospital, in total around 12 were declaired unfit to continue the tour and sent home. Many are the times when i think about how 15 welshmen annihilated 30 Americans and forced 12 of them to go home. any phisical game is fun when you wear this... In short, American Football is for people who think their capable of playing Rugby but have the psychology of a 'Soccer' Player. I would tell you about the time we played the Uni's soccer team at soccer and ended up giving up at 32 - 0. We diddnt get around to playing the Americans at their own game. When i put footbal in quotes it was so that people understood that I was calling it soccer or football depending on what people wanted to call it. Rugby has no place in this thread as Rugby players generally scare me and should be avoided at all costs. Obviously any USA football players who would play Rugby players must be on *****.

Whilst i fully admit i was several thousand miles away at the time, i did flash in my living room at aprox halfway through 2nd half, at the time i was also on eve so in absence of any better claims ( no doubt be a long list soon ) i wish to stake a claim. Unfortunately missed getting picturial proof as resolution was not good enough to pick out anything worth seeing ( wife disputes this, she recons resolutions just fine. ) As i " spend too much time on that bloody computer "anyway not sure wife will testify either but if neccessary she will provide a statement one way or another.
